A-10 Tourney Changes - March 3-6 in Richmond, March 14 Final in Dayton

Sounds like A-10 is going to announce schedule changes after tomorrow's games are played:

Honestly, just send all teams to Dayton Sunday and play as many games as you can before the tournament starts.

So why wait til Sat. LaSal v st Joe, GMU v VCU, UR v Duq? Or is it the St L v Day game tonight they want to see?
Presumably it was too late to change gears for Saturday once they decided on a tournament plan yesterday. Duquesne almost certainly traveling to Richmond today, and getting teams to their destinations for the new matchups. Also not really fair to change opponents with basically almost no warning/prep time.

“We travelled to Rose Hill to face Fordham. You guys are the Nets!”
”Surprise!”

I wonder if everyone not on pause will get 2 games 2/22-3/2? More? Less?

Not why did they not change Sat games, I get that was to late, but why they won’t announce the rest of the schedule before that?

I hereby propose the A-10 tournament simply be held as a round-robin tournament of HORSE televised in its entirety by CBS as the lead-in hype for the selection show.

I guess the league assumes there is no way more than 2 A10 teams can make it – whoever wins the tournament, and then the best remaining team. Otherwise, this would be bid suicide, because you're eliminating the possibility for teams like us, SLU and Davidson to run the table and win 5 or 6 more games to enter the at-large discussion. I think only Bona and VCU have that chance now.

SLU is very solidly in the mix already. Maybe they're actually hoping this a way to 4 teams. If everything goes well for those 3 rest of way and into semi's and then someone outside those 3 wins the tourney. That would be way to 4. Do i think A10 will end up with 4? No but that's the strategic path. I don't agree right now it's 1 at large and 1 auto bid. Yes that could happen if the auto bid is won by a team already in line for at large. But I think 3 total is still most likely.

What we do know is our path is auto or bust.

My favorite:
"Also approved is the seeding policy for both the men’s and women’s basketball for the 2021 championships. Teams above 60 percent of the median number of conference games played by all 14 teams will be seeded by conference winning percentage. Teams below that 60 percent threshold will be seeded using the NCAA NET ranking, relative to all A-10 teams. Additionally, teams below the 60 percent threshold will not be eligible for the regular season title."

Right now, the median number of conference games played is 11, 60% of that is 6.6. That means that SLU (6 games played) and GWU (5 games played) are ranked by their NET rankings, while the remaining are ranked by conference winning %.
Does this mean that SLU and GWU will automatically be seeded below everyone else?

What happens if UR places in the bottom tier at the end of the season?

Might be the best way the Spiders can win the tourney especially if they don't get a top 4 finish. See no way they or Bonny could win 4 in 4 with no bench usage. Of course Bonny in better position of a top 4 finish than Mooney's team.

Not sure what u mean w 1st sentence. All teams r eligible for tourney.

Edit: sorry Jersey disregard. I misread & gather u were referring to 3 in 3 days hypothetically then a week off before the final.

No, they get slotted in at their NET position relative to the rest of the A-10. SLU has the second best NET among A-10 teams, so they’d get the 2 seed if they didn’t have enough games to qualify for seeding on conference win percentage.

Right? And what else is going on at the Robins Center right now anyway? Nothing. There can't be something happening at the Siegel Center, because they just put MORE games there than originally planned.
There was a conflict for the finals set to play at RC. There was a cattle rodeo scheduled the same day.

here is another example. How could our vet AD have zero clue. prentiousness typically leads to disengagement tho.

Just shows that the Richmond regatta isn’t part of the cool kids club in the conference office. Can someone ask nice hair Ed down the street if he got a heads up?

Hardt says he was vigorously against the schedule changes and that once it was decided, they cleared any facility issues to make sure they could still host any rounds of the rescheduled tournament. Basically calling out the A-10 for lying in saying that they changed the hosting pattern because of facility availability issues. Mooney says he was completely blindsided.

It's pretty clear that the league extended its middle finger to us. No matter how much anyone wants Hardt and Mooney gone, two (or three) wrongs don't make a right. The league has handled things as miserably as some people have suggested we did earlier.

I’m still trying to understand how delaying the championship by a week helps.

Playing this out loud, Finalist A or Finalist B has a covid positive test 1 day after the semifinals (best case scenario I think?). Aren’t they obligated to pause a minimum of 7 days even for a false positive, and longer for actual positives and close contacts? So does the “better” semi-final loser replace Finalist A or B?

I'm not getting the logic but I’m also just a simple caveman lawyer.

Wonder if teams will be able to schedule games during that week trying to get an at large bid.
I think NCAA rules would have to be changed to do that after the conference tournament as started.

Then again this is the year for changes and overlooking rules violations...

regardless this shows Mooney & Hardt r not communicating well. How is that possible. Moon says there were no rumblings nothing yet Hardt clearly was clearly in discussions w league advocating against but knew possible. Lot of pull u got there by the way Mr. Meat and Potatoes.

Yet he didn’t think to tell Mooney. Might be some discord there. More logically we r just super dysfunctional. Seen it before.

Science!

Does St Joe really play on
March 1 UR
March 2 URI
March 3 opening round
???

Their URI game was canceled as part of the schedule shakeup. They have Dayton on Wednesday, us on Monday the 1st, and that's it before the tourney.

That’s what I thought. people keep saying they have 3 games.

I think it is just a repeat of the SLU game cancellation debacle where one or both of them are just lying through their teeth.

Seems more likely to me that Mooney have forked tongue - same as St. Louis situation and others in the past.

Actually, I think this is called bad reporting by Noah. The JOC article clearly states that Hardt said he talked to the league before the decision made made. Second, Hardt’s point of view is exactly what Mooney also said, so the two of them talked, as one would expect. I think CM was “totally shocked” because he thought that the other ADs would also advocate to not shorten the season, but the league had other ideas.

If you listen to the Duquesne pre-game that 32 posted, you will hear the same sentiments by Dambrot. He also stated it is not the best for us (Duq), but it is best for the league, so obviously the league presented their case and it at least made some sort of sense to Dambrot.

All that is certain in this time of uncertainty is that the A10 has no plan and it shows.

no it wasn’t bad reporting. Did u listen to Mooney’s press conference? It was clear. Either Mooney is lying as others stated above or Hardt is not keeping Moon in the loop which is another issue.
