A-10 Tournament

I hear you, I remember visiting some friends in Richmond and my wife proclaimed that I was not a Mooney supporter, and they were perplexed. Of course I am also a guy that probably owns the record for technicals in one season at the Power Pac/Foxwoods Casino travel basketball league. So I lean more to the Dutcher / Hurley types.

And I’ve never said Mooney is a bad coach but tbh part of that is any media coverage we get incl the national guys buy into what an incredible Coach Moon is. A lot bc he’s a good guy and how could we expect to do better. Well that’s great but if it wasn’t little ol’ Richmond those guys would have the knives out for a bigger programs coach at 3 for 19 and 9-25 vs rival. Fact is 3 of Moon’s 4 predecessors at UR performed better. Does it mean Mooney is a bad coach - no. But u don’t settle for our results imo either.

The Bonnies and Ramblers are locked in a tight one here too. I feel like the A10 as a whole has not gotten the respect it deserves this season.

Bonnies and Loyola headed to double OT. According to the broadcast this is the 3rd double OT game in A10 tournament history

I know you shouldn't ask a question you can't answer, but what we're the A10's signature wins out of conference this season?
"signature wins" per team (defined as highest NET rated team that was defeated in the non-con):

Dayton == neutral Cincinnati 34
Spiders == neutral UNLV 78
VCU == home Samford 76
Umass == home South Florida 79
SBU == neutral Akron 115
Loyola == neutral Boston College 80
GMU == home Cornell 90
St Joe == neutral Villanova 40
Duq == neutral Bradley 58
Davidson == neutral Maryland 72
Fordham == neutral North Texas 81
GW == home Hofstra 113
LaSalle == home Drexel 122
SLU == home Louisiana Tech 99
URI == home Yale 87

That gives you an idea.

Down go the Ramblers. Bonnies on to the semis. Not a great time to be either co-champion of the A10

Not quite the A10 tourney but this post is for 23. San Diego State and UNLV headed to OT in the mountain west tournament

Literally still don't know a friend, alumni or anyone who follows UR basketball closely who think Mooney is the answer to anything.
St Joe has a good team and outperformed our Spiders who did not perform quite as well. Period. This is not on the coach. A few years ago I was skeptical of our ability to turn things around. Mooney gets credit for moving our program upward once again. Sometimes this Board comes across as a group of grumpy old men. I love this team!

I think this shows how bad the A10 actually was this year. The two co-champions were frauds. It has nothing to do with not playing yet, or the game time or whatever other excuse you want to make.

Champions of regular season are obviously the teams that win the most conference games. "Fraud" is a strong word to use to describe the teams with the most wins. The inherent weakness of the setup is that teams do not play every other team both home and away which results in an unequal schedule as far as the strength of the opposition. The conference tournament is designed to even that out.

Yes. Bigs after game said we got teams best shot as 1 seed. That’s true. But we also got 1 seed partially bc of easier league schedule and fact that we didn’t get teams best shot for lot of season. I said this earlier in year but our away games were sparsely attended minus a couple, maybe even just the 1 - VCU. That’s helpful it just is. Does not take away accomplishment of winning reg season bc the players can’t control that. But valid observation and we just couldn’t sustain long enough as we got to the end.

Our D was tough. Ratings backed up what we saw. Just missing 1 piece on O. Needed Roche to be that guy as a consistent threat and bench O.

No, it shows that anything can happen in one game. You're not a fraud if you go 15-3 in an 18-game league schedule.
Not piling onto the fraud comment, but we only played the other top 4 teams once...yes we went 2-1 but we got Dayton at home and LUC away during Xmas break....the conference schedule was very favorable to us....

The correct word would be balanced. There is no super dominant team in the league and basically everyone who follows the league was saying that there were 6-8 teams that could win the tournament. Taking it even further it has been like this for years with most seasons having different regular season and tournament champions.

I do agree with the sentiment that having the unbalanced regular season schedule lessens the “value” of the season championship because the winner does not face the entire league home and home. Regardless, the team has to play its schedule and win its road games. UR has not typically been able to win on the road and were finally able to do that this year.

At the beginning of the year, it was Dayton and everyone else and it could end that way with Dayton being the sole NCAA representative. Everyone knows that the A10 isn’t a P6 league, so perhaps you have unrealistic expectations.

We don’t control this…why are we finding something to always complain about. You are not a fraud if you won your league and went 15-3. We could have went 18-0 and some up here would find something to complain about.

Would love him to come back if that's in the cards...we r all hurting....none of expected this kind of season considering the preseason expectations, but we r all disappointed in how this game played out.....

Coach also on Louisville list

Who made that list? He’s not on Louisville’s list. They could have 20 guys say no & they still wouldn’t land on Mooney. & culturally he’s not a fit at all.

I prob should have been clearer. Wasn’t really coming at you. Just think we have some on here that love finding anything to complain about. My apologies for not being clearer.

I though we were referencing Indiana St coach.

Sorry urfan1 I apologize. I saw the quoted reply above with “Coach” not your original one with context. U can probably get why I had that type of reaction to someone stating Mooney was on Louisville’s list lol. It threw me off. Indiana State guy makes lot more sense but decent jump I doubt they do that either.

His philosophy of offensive rebounding and saving timeouts could be real selling points for a job at Louisville. We might have to up his salary to keep him.
