2018-2019 Basketball Schedule

Here is how I see it:
ULC Quad 1 (14, cutoff 50)
GT Quad 2 (161, cutoff for quad 1 135)
ODU Quad 2 (74, cutoff 75)
BC/Wyoming Quad 2 (94/100, cutoff 100)
Wake Quad 4 (162, cutoff for quad 3 160)
Rest Quad 4

not that this year's RPI = last year's RPI

You got it, except for Georgetown - 135 is the cutoff for Quad 2, so they're a Quad 3.

Aside from Loyola, we've got 2 potential "bottom of Quad 2" games, and one Quad 3. 9 Quad 4 games in our OOC, whereas last year we had 10 the entire season.

Last year's OOC: 1 Quad 1, 4 Quad 2, 4 Quad 3, 3 Quad 4

No he'll go 6-7 OOC, and then rally for a 12-6 conference record, go 1-1 in tournament, and be safe. 19-14 the people will say. That's enough for a 4 year extension!

With this schedule, it's 24 wins in season or bust. Sorry. None of this barely over .500 crap and he's safe.

Reminds me of the year we played such powerhouses as Oglethorpe, West Va Tech, Catholic Univ!

Hey this schedule fits the level of the team for this year. Needed a softer schedule based on attrition and new faces trying to gel together.

Yeah, messed that one up. Too much trying to do work at work while looking these up...

Yes, we were Georgetown’s toughest OOC game so they were 351, Duquesne was 350.

I would guess ours this year will be 317. Last year we were 34, with this year’s team 200 or little lower would be understandable, below 250 means you're completely starting over.

I have never complained about the OOC schedule before. I’m not even complaining about this one, we had virtually no shot at any kind of at large bid so OOC schedule is kinda moot.

It’s just painful that our 3 “prime” games are against bottom dwellers in the ACC and BE. Unless Loyola rolls over last year’s magic, it’s conceivable we won’t have a single game against a ranked team OOC.

Tough to get excited about it.
Think this hits the nail on the head. Previous comments in this thread are right on target. This "play down" schedule is designed for wins to preserve Mooney's job. The schedule was not designed with any at-large bid in mind, it wasn't a legit possibility anyway. Paraphrasing Moliva, it proves that the coaching staff has resigned themselves to the fact that the team (and program) are not good enough for quality competition.

This is, and should be a big problem for any college basketball fan who cheers for the Spiders. Nothing to be excited about is a downer. Last year's Loyola team (and they are not going to be as good as they were last year) is the only good opponent, and they are not coming to Richmond.

For anyone who cares to look, the "lack of reasons to be excited" should be exhibit # A regarding what is wrong with the basketball program under Mooney.

If beating Quad 3 & 4 teams a few times makes you happy, then this will be a pretty good year. If you enjoy top quality, competitive basketball, not so much.

Another middle finger from Mooney. Anyone that paid for season tickets has been ripped off, because that home schedule is nothing but freebies and $5 groupons.

It's only Sept but the staff has already crafted talking points and a PR strategy centered around youth, improvement, learning, yadi yada. Same recycled garbage we hear year after year, yet for some reason continue to soak up and applaud.

Looks like he's on track to pass Coach Tarrant on 11/16. Barf.

Other than the fact we have difficulty beating them was surprised that Bucknell is not on our schedule considering Hardt is their former AD.

I am hearing some things about this :) , will not be all giggles and smiles. Potentially some very big names to be involved. More to come.......

Yeah, I'm sure they're going to trot out everybody under the sun for it. Fortunately, Tarrant's name is never coming off of that floor. After the huffing and puffing is over maybe they can have Coach Tarrant come out and remind the crowd how much longer it took Mooney to pass him.

10, sorry was not clear - I have source from sources from other people's sources indicating #FMM may be efforting some past names to "help out" with any ceremony - impromptu or other.

The thought of having some big ceremony for when he passes Tarrant given the state of our program is a bit nauseating.
When he passes Tarrant in career winning percentage at UR (with a similar career SOS), I think THAT would be worth celebrating...

{and now I wait for both sides to claim I am supporting the other side}

and I'll say this ... you're constant, repetitive opinion has prompted some to examine how often they want to visit this board.

Hopefully I can drive the board participation down to only #FMM, they are the enlightened one's when it comes to Spiders basketball. I know you want Moon to succeed so bad to shove it down my throat, but when you stop and think about it, you know deep down he is mediocre at best. Yes, when he has success recruiting a deep roster and has better talent than the opposition he can win. But when we have a similar level of talent, or deficit - the results are poor. This is the stark truth that Hardt knows and will need to act on or he will be dragged down.

The board will be a much better place once we replace this coach.
The state of our program is never Mooney's fault. It is the fault of our admissions, Keith Gill, the ever changing landscape of college basketball, improper " alignment", not having good enough facilities and my personal favorite a "small group of fans with unrealistic expectations".

I believe Hardt sees the big picture. And believe, we will all be united as Spider fans once again come next Spring. Until then, we are going to have slog through yet another unsatisfying season of mediocre Mooney ball. Here's to 15 wins and finishing in the bottom half of a watered down league this year.

I don't get the High Point game on a neutral site, what on earth is the purpose of that? Were we given some astronomical fee to play in the new facility? What?

How many of you 2 years ago said this year was the tournament or bust year. I was certainly one.

So you want the board to become a complete echo chamber of anonymous, disgruntled, hateful internet posters with the sole agenda to get someone fired and berate anyone who doesn't? Congrats, it's working.

No but some smaller fee perhaps. There have been some articles on this new arena. Primarily it will be Mystics arena but will have your other typical arena events. I think CAA tourney is going there next year? Right size venue in good central location for that imo. It's in a rough area of DC no doubt but they're hoping it revitalizes like Cap One arena and Nats stadium both did. I remember going to MCI (before it was verizon and Cap One) and all you had was The Rock. No where else to go to eat or drink. Now it's great. Same with Nats. The place is opening this Fall, we'll probably be one of the first basketball games there.

My guess is the arena was pushing to get some bookings and also have some test run events for hoops before Mystics and other games. Maybe Spiders wanted to play a small role in helping to kick off a new endeavor like this arena. Plus we have a full slate of home games already, as much as we've had regular season in any year I bet. Get a neutral game yet still regional. Under no delusions it will have much of a crowd though.

Are we putting too much hope in Hardt? What if he ends up being squelched by an overzealous administration and a blowhard benefactor who wants to keep his buddy on? He hasn't shown anything to say he's an independent party to everything. Let's wait and see. It's been all talk so far. We want action, but will Hardt listen to the little guy in the seats or the benefactor in the skybox? Only time will tell.

I hear the plan was to have a 4 team tourney style event, the other 2 teams changed their minds. Don't know who or the actual planned format.

I can’t wait for opening trio of home games to start the year. If you can’t get excited to see our Spiders play Longwood, St Francis, and iupui to open the year, you are not a Spider or college basketball fan.

At least we didn't schedule Delaware for the first game this time. Can't schedule a strong opponent for first game ever again. I'm surprised they took our invite to open up their season here. Most good teams like to start at home.
