OT: Woj bomb!

I don't think the dark underworld is nearly as dark as you think.

no kid hitting the portal is going to turn his phone off because he got an early offer. and certainly not for a "dream school" SBU offer even if it's from Woj. would you? say you're lighting it up at Siena and SBU risks everything to illegally contact you early and offer you a $50k NIL deal. do you consider yourself off the market? you're not answering Richmond's call?

I think it's incredibly rare, if ever, to be too late when a kid hits the portal. unless that kid thinks an SBU offer is the best he'll ever get, in which case ... not a huge loss.
I am not saying a kid turns his phone off, but just like when recruiting kids out of HS, it pays to be early. Especially when you know - you might be the underdog. Get a kid early in HS - and start recruiting him, form the relationship - maybe he gives you a shot when the bigger schools start coming in towards the end. This is part of the reason it might be even more important now for schools like UR to over-recruit and make contact with more players, even guys we know we likely won't get. Cause chances are - a good number of them will be in the portal at some point. And maybe having a GM allows you that opportunity - someone to make those phone calls, send those letters, speak to parents and build the relationship. So when the kid goes to a P5 school that loses, of he doesn't play much - your there to call and already know everyone. Its like NBA free agency with no contracts - each year, technically - every kid is available on every team.

Again - I think its a good move by the Bonnies, because like us - they are a mid-major, and they need to turn over every stone they can to get players and kids to come to school there, especially in Olean NY. Will it turn the Bonnies into a top 25 team - of course not. But if Woj can identify or get a 1-2 key players to come there, that could be the difference to make them a top team in the A10 in some years.

Do you approve of the move to the Patriot League?

I agree there is a difference between the CAA and Patriot League.
But there is also a difference between an NFL roster and an NFL draft.

What rounds were those 16 players drafted in June of 2023?
The FloSports article about the CAA stated those were players on the roster. The Patriot League article was only draftees. To your point, we don't know if any of the PL players actually made the roster.

Three of the nine PL players were from Holy Cross. One of those was the great Gordie Lockbaum, who had a starting position on both offense and defense- a two-way player for Holy Cross. IIRC, Gordie Lockbaum was a Heisman Trophy finalist. I saw that he did not make an NFL roster.

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponent's Countdown - Delaware State

Matter of time for a QB injury when he is running the ball a dozen times/game. Makes sense to run when it’s the best option, but we’ve been burned in past years with QB runs - example is Mancuso in VT game. That injury cost us several games.
Of course, when most of the fan base thinks QB2 is the superior option, not much risk running QB1. Let’s see what Coleman has in store.

Very unfortunate for Nick D. Take time with his head - can’t rush that one.

my issue with the 3 guards is that we don't have a repeat of seasons where it felt like teams were getting very good looks from 3 all the time bc they were just shooting over our small guards. Tyne does help there - as does Hunt - by being plus defenders who can at least be near shooters most of the time. But on rotation close outs, small guys are not much of a distraction.

EDIT - I'm not opposed to 3 guards, just fyi, esp if we have plus shooters on the court on offense.

Yes, I hear you, but the way most of them play, they can handle and shoot without a lot of inside stuff. So, that makes them guardable for a smaller guy like GW3, who could actually use his quickness defensively to bother a taller guy more than a taller guy might. And, I do remember seeing a lot of lineups from teams where their 3rd smallest guy was 6'4 or less, including Duquesne, who won the A-10 tourney and a 1st round dance game last year.
probably comes down to the earlier question ... who doesn't play?
if enough of the forwards (AP, Dusan, Tanner, Roche, Robinson, McGlothin, maybe Beagle) are really good and earn time, then we won't need to play a 6'2" guy there. but if GW3 is the best option, then we will.

most teams that say they're playing 3 guards have a guy they call a guard who's at least 6'5" or 6'6".
like my lineup with Tanner at the 3. on our roster we call him a guard but he's 6'6".

Further to my case
1) I promise to change my JR avatar.
2) Once, many years ago, I was playing on Kenny Atkinson's team in the carpet gym and was on a rare burner - and KA started calling me "Money" when I shot.
How cool is that? And I could definitely see Kenny doing something like that...that's just who he is...very positive, always complimenting...he was a great teammate and leader. Now, the question is did he also call guys like Rodney Rice, Eric English, and Curtis Blair "Money" when they got hot, or was that name just reserved for u. 😀

Agree, sman, we would need boards from Dusan with this lineup. He should be fine with his size. I have heard some talk of Roche starting with 2 smaller guards, so if Roche could start, why couldn't GW3?

All off season we keep hearing GW3 is shooting the lights out. Let's find out right away if he will keep that going and do just that when the season starts. We have gotten off to too many slow starts in the past few years. Let's start the game with shooting all over the floor, and if we need to make size adjustments, we can.

solid. I just think Beagle gets in the starting lineup but I think Walz has likely done enough to get the start as well so Moon rotates a big out at the 17m mark then the other back in at 13 and they alternate the rest of the half.

This is a very experienced lineup that should be able to be old from the get go.

Hunt
B. Artis
Nescovic
Beagle
Walz

Tyne check in at 17m mark for Beagle. AP checks in for Nescovic just after first media break and Tanner or Roche checks in for B. Artis at same time (whoever has won that spot.) GWIII gets in at about 11m mark as 4th guard. (so 9-man rotation backups are Tyne, AP, Tanner/Roche, GWIII.)

If against a weaker team and we have a big lead, Moon goes to a 10th rotation player - whichever of Roche or Tanner who didn't win that second wing reserve spot.

Can't wait for spiderman to refute my double big lineup.

Do you approve of the move to the Patriot League?

The Patriot League has only had 9 players drafted into the NFL since the league's inception in 1986. We have very little in common with the Patriot League football teams.

As opposed to UR and other schools, who may be looking for kids to hit the portal, when at that point - it might be too late.

OK, let's get our guesses in for opening night starting five:

Guard - D. Hunt
Guard - B. Artis
Forward - AP
Forward - Dusan
Center - Walz

Guard 1 - Hunt seems to be the man by all indications
Guard 2 - I think this could go any number of ways. Could easily see Tyne or GW3 in there. Thinking B. Artis with most D1 experience leads early, Tyne has the Richmond experience/loyalty factor, and maybe GW3 is playing best in practice and gets the nod.
Forward - Could see a healthy Roche here, Tanner maybe - who knows. Hoping AP is so good he wins it day 1.
Forward - I feel like Dusan is heavy favorite here, with his experience, production/skill and size. Even if 100% don't see Soulis on game 1 starting. Beagle or Walz long shots IMO as will be splitting center role mostly I think.
Center - Could see this go either way I feel - but I like Walz' upward trajectory and 2 years behind him in the system for Day 1.

Seems like a season in which we could have four different starters a few weeks in, or later in the season, or maybe it varies week to week an match up. Who are your leaders for Game 1?

OT: Woj bomb!

Great points Brownstone. Not many as or more connected in the NBA. Great selling point if all things are equal - hey once your done here - our GM can connect with every front office in the NBA and get your name out there. Now, we know everyone that plays college hoops in the US, or probably any hoops player anywhere now are known by the NBA teams. But that extra connection sure can't hurt, and is at very least another selling point for a transfer.

I still remember when I started coming full speed down the lane for a hook shot off the backboard.
For that day, I had the nick name “free toaster”.

This was so long ago a free toaster was still a “running bank hook” at financial institutions.
