Wyoming in game

Here come the excuses, #1 Gilly was hurt, #2 We are so young!!!, . . .

The time has come to end this.

FIRE MOONEY!!!!

Wasn't this bad Wyoming team missing three of it's starters?

There's part of me that just wants to see us lose them all until Hardt fires mooney

Totally agree. Hate rooting against my team but enough is freaking enough. And don’t get pissed at us fans for feeling this way. Get pissed at Mooney and they guys that keep allowing for this crap to happen.

We’re down a bucket, called time out and that was the play???
Frankly just unbelievable ulla can even you still support this?

Pathetic. Two very bad teams. Neither one knew how to win. It was a question of who is going to be worse. Of course, Mooney takes the nod on not knowing how to close a game.

How is any of this surprising at this point? We know what we have 14 years in.

I'm shocked that Pomeroy still has us top 150 after this Garbage. Still predicted to be.500. that ain't happening.

This game is another perfect example of why Mooney is a mediocre coach.

We lost to a team that didn’t play 3 starters, had a guy coming off back spasms, has no one taller than 6’6”, and has a 1-4 record. The lack of depth is going to be an issue for us in a couple of ways. For one, we don’t want any injuries from over playing someone. Also overplaying someone can lead to poor decision making, shots, etc, due to fatigue. Secondly, the next best players we have to put in are Oddo, a walk-on, and Yates, someone who has no D1 scholarships for basketball out of High School.

We lost a 5 point lead in the final 1:30 and Mooney drew up a terrible offensive scheme after our timeout.

Mooney has always been good enough to give the impression that things might get better or be different. It never is. We’ll likely win somewhere in the mid-teens in games this year against teams like IUPUI, Coppin State, Oral Roberts, and La Salle and it’ll give the false impression that things have changed under Mooney. This schedule was designed to be the easiest one in years and we are 2-3 right now

The Ulla just disappears when this crap happens and refuses to say what he knows what is true, a genuine homer.

And where's the "Our OOC is to easy" crowd?

In a previous post I said Mooney must go now! Unless some financial "fat cat" comes forward and pays the remaining years of Mooney's contract, I am afraid we are stuck with this coach until his contract runs out.

Mooney is not a mediocre coach, he totally sucks.

100% true. Unfortunately, it is extremely important to keep losing so that action will be taken. We have everything in place to be an outstanding program. We have one thing wrong, and it is so blatantly obvious to almost everyone except the AD.

I am almost forced to come to the RC dressed in Spider gear and cheer for the opposing team. If a change doesn't happen this year, it never will. I love my Spiders too much to stand for this.

Not only CM, many shortcomings, but admissions, AD, Pres, and big donors. All own this clown show. Unless all commit to improving this mess it will get worse.

mr. If I recall you are a very dedicated fan driving down from Maryland for every home game? We are all waiting for the day we have a new coach and can have some optimism again. It has been too long.
Actually, Pennsylvania now (it was Maryland at one point, as well as North Carolina). If I need to make the drive to help state the obvious, I'll do that too. We need a change, or it will get worse. Please Hardt, take action now.

Wyoming was a sub-300 team missing two of its best three players, and we had an 11-point lead.

We are checking all the boxes just 5 games in. Lose an embarrassing game to a cupcake. Home opener bonus. Get blown out by an above average team. Choke a game away to a bad team. I’d say choke or get blown out by a really good team is next except we don’t play ANY the whole season.

I guess getting trucked in a crosstown rivalry game is still out there. Joy.

Well, the way I hear it, your problem is just the opposite of that. It is my understanding (heard it from a friend, who heard it from a friend- wink wink) that the problem is that you have one or two large donors who are backing Mooney at all costs. I can't figure out why they would. What supporter in their proper mind would dump big $$ into a program that is failing to produce. The only thing it I can figure is that someone has become friends with him and wants to keep him around. Sometimes people with big money are like that.

They can offer all the excuses they want. This is getting pretty sad. And I'd be tired of all the "we are young" lines. Well Chris, you are young because you can't keep players. That falls directly on the staff, not the other players. And have you looked at VCU roster? Once past Gilmore (a one year transfer in), there are no seniors playing. VCU seem to be doing pretty well with a young team. Not world beaters (yet), but the team you see on the court right now is about the same team you will see next year.

It is pretty hard to put this on the players. I feel for them and fear that more will leave if things don't change at the end of the year. We'll see.

Excellent post IMO

Plus define young? is it age or experience. Is Grant young because he is a sophomore, He's got more experience than senior Oddo, Same with Jacob he's got a full year of experience more than many upper classmen who sat the bench. It's not the players, it is the coaching (and they and their supporters use the age of players as an excuse)

According to those who have a clue, youth wasn’t going to be the excuse this year because the guys returning had so much experience (and we’d be better losing buck and fore). I haven’t seen a copy of the new and updated talking points to explain the performance to date yet.

I can agree with you on Buckingham. I understand there were reasons why VCU offered Jenkins and moved away from him. And it had nothing to do with his ability to play basketball. We have all had problem kids before (well, I know VCU has anyway), and one guy can destroy good chemistry.

As for Fore, if I was a coach, I'd hate to lose him. The kid has grit. But I don't know all the personalities involved.
