Mens - @ Auburn who will be #2 in the nation - Sun 12/8 noon - SEC network

Auburn 94 - 58
Fairly close. I know I'm Mr. Negative but with good reason. I haven't missed a home football game in nearly 50 years, missed 2 home lacrosse games since we started playing, catch as many baseball games as schedule allows but have not darkened Robins Center since James Madison ran us off newly named DT court. This is why. I won't be back until Mooney is gone. My conscience is clear.

One thing I’ve observed thus far this season - Moon brings out the best in not only fair / avg teams that have beaten us but also with a quality team like Auburn. That’s quite an accomplishment for consistency regardless of opponent.

For some reason I am rooting for #1 Kansas to lose, down 15 now…

Spiders are circled on every team's schedule.

So…

My new spin, beating UR made Auburn #1…

{I’m ignoring the Duke loss}

Walz seems to have really regressed quickly. Today looked like his first game as a freshmen. Terrible turnovers, really passive play, didn't want the ball. His confidence that we heard after the opener and hoped he now possessed to take his game to the next level, as well as add physicality to a team that really needs it, seems to have vanished.

The Mooney Magic has sucked the life out of him.

Mooney can beat the competitive life out of the best. Most passive aggressive personalities can.

Come on now. He's a great coach - - I am sure he told him to play better!

And this will be the new refrain from Mooney lovers - - - well he's the same coach etc. its not his fault these players can't do what he tells them!

Non basketball Game report

Arena is more intimate than I expected. Only holds 9100 and probably no bad seats

Given 11 am starting team, students were packed in and we heard some have been camping out since 4am. Loved how basically 2/3 of the lower section except for behind the benches were reserved for students. Students had creative and in synch cheers throughout the game.

Auburn fans at the game and throughout the weekend were very friendly .. most knew about our strong basketball history and I think expected a closer game

The town and Main Street of Auburn appear to be thriving - lots of near 4 to 6 story multiuse building ... campus has great open spaces and such.

two pros and a con
1. we didnt let them double us up
2. we didnt let them reach triple digits

and 3. they made us look like the varsity team scrimmaging the JV team in high school
From possession #1, it was clear UR would never be in this game.

The baffling turnovers, the hot-potato passing of the ball, the inability to start an offensive set within 30 feet of the basket, the defensive scheme that proved right away to be terrible (double down low, let them shoot/make wide open shots that are worth 3 points rather than 2) yet persisted, it's a game where you could go on and on and never run out of critiques.
Overall, the four non-centers that start all shoot sub-30% from 3 after 9 games, which is (somewhat appropriately) a 30% of the season sample size. Defense has been atrocious all over the court. Does anyone still know what the best (or even a good) 5 man group is?

How unprepared UR looked on both ends, how the mistakes were those you'd expect in preseason scrimmages, not game #9, is a scathing indictment of what the HC has put together. How these questions persist this far into a season, is the most damning thing I can put out there. Moonball.

There is no excuse for experience level of who we have, to play so unexpired and so scared. I want some toughness and never give up attitude.

there you have it. last in the A10 - beneath a horrible Frank the Tank coached team, lol - by actual metrics.

Torvik must be a VCU fan (says the truther portion of this board.)

Some notes from the numbers:
335th in eFG%
360th in offensive rebound %
323th in opponent FT rate
349th in 3 point FG % (but 53rd in 3 point rate, lol)
340th in 3 point rate defense
309th in adjusted offensive efficiency.

To summarize: shoot a lot of 3s, can't make 3s, allow tons of looks from 3, can't offensive rebound, foul a lot.

Moonball.

EDIT: Also, can't schedule, as that 2-5 vs D1 competition sticks out.

Top 10 tenured coach though, that's all that matters to some people!

Feels like something isn’t quite working. If only we could put a finger or 10 on what it is.

So what’re we good at?

I wonder if any team in statistical history has been this bad at shooting (eFG 335th) yet is also rebounding basically none of their many misses (360th.)
Well, you actually have to try to go for a rebound, so it’s not super shocking given our preference to quickly get back on D and allow easy buckets.
