Travel 3000 miles to get dumped out of the dance halfway through the first day....Or have 3 home games. 2 possibly against BCS teams who would never voluntarily set foot in our building, on the way to MSG with a chance to win the NIT? Oh....And get a visit from the ASU cheerleaders as a bonus? Sometimes dancing is overrated.

I think we are having a great post season in the NIT. Our games are on the ESPN family of channels and give us great exposure. I hope Mr. Smart and his players will cheer for us on Sunday: One Richmond!

It all depends on whether we're talking about ASU Cheerleaders .... or ASU Cheerleaders AND Dance team.

I can't answer without knowing that part.

Ulla, no doubt they will cheer for the Spiders along with all their fans. Didn't the Hatfields and McCoys always cheer for each other?

SD, is your significant other comfortable with your infatuation with starting threads and polls about our crosstown rival?

You say dancing maybe is over rated?

I say ASU girls dancing may not be over rated.

Couldn't we play ASU in the dance and then its a win-win?

But I would always pick dance

Of course the dance.

That said, winning the NIT is a decent consolation prize, so let's do that. Spiders are the only Richmond team playing now, so a good showing would be good for local interest too.

NCAA tournament. Nobody remembers who played in the NIT, but millions of people would see Richmond on their brackets.

Here is a question. Would you rather win the NIT or lose as a 16 in Dayton?

The kind of school that gets a 16 seed would be really proud of an NIT title. That's like St Francis Brooklyn winning it. So for them, NIT, but I'd rather lose first four than win NIT from our position

Ask the very first 15 seed to beat a 2 seed that question. I think they would always choose the NCAA.

K, that is why I said a first four 16. They would only have a 50/50 chance of playing a 1.

BTW everyone is there a way for us to ever be a 16? Maybe a starting five of Anderson, Gonzalvez, Newman, G Stephenson, and Harper, getting mono two weeks in the season but getting well a week before the conference tournament?

Clearly, the NCAA. Information about the Non Interested Tournament is hard to find in the newspaper. The TD had a large pull out about UVA and VCU playing in the dance. Very little media coverage and skimpy attendance. Minnesota won it last year and did not make the dance this year. Plus a much better pay off.

It was a double post. I deleted the second one.

NCAA's by a country mile. Who remembers the "final four" of the NIT last year? FWIW it was SMU, Minnesota, Florida State, and Clemson. 3 of those teams didn't even make it back to the NIT this year and SMU is already out of the big dance (via a controversial call).

Our game on Sunday night should merit a lot of local interest/watching but there will be NCAA tournament games going on at the same time in terms of any national audience.

We all agree the NCAA is the place to be and other than the teams participating in the NIT, not many care. But I'm happy we're still playing because many are not and just maybe this experience pushes us over the hump. On a similar note, not many showed for the Minnesota/Richmond baseball games this week at Shepard Stadium but I didn't enjoy the games any less.

Thanks for coming out from underneath your bridge long enough to share that valuable insight, as always.

bb3831,
Just to be very clear, why do you bother posting here?
Nobody cares what you think troll...about anything.

When you crap the bed two years in a row (and nearly get swept by their rival) you have to find some solace somewhere. He chooses to try to find it here by attempting to belittle the Spiders. After all, when basketball is over he is still stuck with being affiliated with vcu.

Most posters agree with my observation. I did not graduate from UR or VCU. I have a PhD from Phoenix and post doc work at John Tyler Community College.

Anil, that's pretty sexist. Both Richmond basketball teams are in post-season play, with the women's team in the WNIT for the sixth out of the past seven seasons. Frankly, Coach Shafer has had a better time consistently getting the Lady Spiders in post-season play than Coach Mooney. Granted, there could be some under-achieving there as the women's team hasn't been to the NCAAs in a while. Not many teams across the country can say that both their men's and women's teams are in post-season play. Case in point? VCU.

While I agree that an NCAA trip is worth much more than a great NIT run, I think this will help the team immensely next season. Bring on the Sun Devils and Hatters!

Wow. Sorry, way better education than VCU.

On line, In between lines, on top of the line and on the bottom of the line.

Does that involve co-eds, like the Arizona State Cheerleading and Dance Squads? Or just Wendy Westhampster from the University of Richmond?

Now there's a reply that shows off that education. Well done.

bb- it is a stretch to say that most posters agree with your observation. When I see you have posted I generally skip your posts because of the lack of empathy shown for the Spiders. Concerning the original premise of this thread which was

The thread morphed into whether you would want to go to the dance or be in the NIT? For the specific circumstance mentioned in the opening premise I would rather be in the NIT with the possibility of attending in person 3 games at Robins versa going the 2374 miles to Portland, Oregon to lose the game.

Final post (for now). Stonewall and Whampas, you can get one using a Living Social or Groupon voucher.

Too lazy to look it up, but didn't Dayton win the NIT the year prior to making the Elite 8? Winning the thing can be a huge springboard and lots of good exposure. I would probably prefer the final four NIT to a first round loss. The St. Mary's loss in 2010 wasn't much fun. With respect to others here, I think the NIT is relevant, and from purely a fan's perspective, I certainly enjoy watching my Spiders at home three more times playing against BCS schools.

The mighty Triollers of The U of P are at home now not getting ready for a game Saturday or Sunday.
