Pittsburgh has acquired Vinny Capra from Toronto. He was at Buffalo in the International League; now he's with Indianapolis in the same league.

Vinny was called up to the Pirates yesterday.
Good for him, didn't see it in the transactions.

Infielder Tucupita Marcano tore an ACL and will be out for the season. They also traded IF Rudolfo Castro to the Phillies. Maybe Vinny can get more than a cup of coffee this time.

Vinny was optioned back down to Indy a few days ago after playing in two games with the Pirates.

Subbed in late at 3B in his first game and went 0-for-1, then played a full game at 2B where he went 1-for-3 plus a walk and scored a run.

Well he was up for five days and earned about $20K. Makes it easier to survive in AAA.

He just about has 43 days of MLB service time, including last year's time with Toronto. It's key to his financial future to stay up for the rest of the season and get past 43 days of service time.

A player must have spent at least 43 days in the majors (service time) to receive the minimum pension of $34,000. Service time applies to the amount of days a player is on a roster, not games played.

Depending on when he starts his pension, that could be a significant chunk of money over his lifetime. With the rosters expanded to 28 now, hopefully he can make it through the end of the season and qualify.

Capra was optioned back to AAA on Sept 15 but at least he got more extended time in the big leagues this go around.

The Pirates recalled an infielder yesterday for the final week but it wasn't Vinny.

Vinny signed with Milwaukee in the offseason and is now their 40-man roster, a big key for making the 26-man out of spring training.

Their AAA affiliate is Nashville, not a horrible place to be if you don't make the big team.

Vinny is on Nashville's roster. He's on Milwaukee's 40-man roster, which is good. He gets paid more and they don't have to dump anyone to recall him from the minors.
