Pittsburgh has acquired Vinny Capra from Toronto. He was at Buffalo in the International League; now he's with Indianapolis in the same league.

Vinny was called up to the Pirates yesterday.
Good for him, didn't see it in the transactions.

Infielder Tucupita Marcano tore an ACL and will be out for the season. They also traded IF Rudolfo Castro to the Phillies. Maybe Vinny can get more than a cup of coffee this time.

Vinny was optioned back down to Indy a few days ago after playing in two games with the Pirates.

Subbed in late at 3B in his first game and went 0-for-1, then played a full game at 2B where he went 1-for-3 plus a walk and scored a run.

Well he was up for five days and earned about $20K. Makes it easier to survive in AAA.

He just about has 43 days of MLB service time, including last year's time with Toronto. It's key to his financial future to stay up for the rest of the season and get past 43 days of service time.

A player must have spent at least 43 days in the majors (service time) to receive the minimum pension of $34,000. Service time applies to the amount of days a player is on a roster, not games played.

Depending on when he starts his pension, that could be a significant chunk of money over his lifetime. With the rosters expanded to 28 now, hopefully he can make it through the end of the season and qualify.

Capra was optioned back to AAA on Sept 15 but at least he got more extended time in the big leagues this go around.

The Pirates recalled an infielder yesterday for the final week but it wasn't Vinny.

Vinny signed with Milwaukee in the offseason and is now their 40-man roster, a big key for making the 26-man out of spring training.

Their AAA affiliate is Nashville, not a horrible place to be if you don't make the big team.

Vinny is on Nashville's roster. He's on Milwaukee's 40-man roster, which is good. He gets paid more and they don't have to dump anyone to recall him from the minors.

I was on vacation and did not see that Vinny was recalled by the Brewers on July3, and sent back down on July 12. He was 1-for-9 with a run. He's been a regular at Nashville all season.

His 9-day stay in MLB earned him about $36,900, given that the NMLB minimum salary is $740,000 based on a 180-day season. Nice little bit of scratch that helps. Minor-league players are paid much better than 10 years ago, though, thanks to the players going to bat for them in the current Collective bargaining Agreement.

Four spring training home runs so far for Vinny! Making a nice case to make the Brewers' roster.

Ouch.

He homered on Opening Day but has been in a lengthy slump ever since, recently snapping an 0-for-32 with a single. That prolonged cold spell leaves Capra with an eyesore of a batting line: .074/.121/.130. Between this year’s struggles and his sparse track record prior to 2025, Capra is just a .105/.170/.163 hitter in 96 big league plate appearances.

Showed some stuff in AAA and had a great spring training, too bad that hasn't held up.

Too bad. We'll see if someone claims him. If not, go back to Nashville and await the next opportunity, when someone gets hurt. Unfortunately he's no longer on their 40-man.

Not the MLB career (so far) he wanted, but how many who are drafted even get to spend one day in the majors?

More reason to follow the White Sox, which I do anyway because they have two former Oregon State pitchers on the roster.

Every day he spends in the MLs means more money down the road.

Good thing about being on the White Sox is that it's basically a Triple A team, so playing time should be decent, but you get paid like a big-leaguer and accrue that MLB time.

The White Sox DFAed shortstop Jacob Amaya and put Vinny on their active roster today. They open a series with the Cubs today at Wrigley Field.

He did not play in a 13-3 loss.

No obvious place to put this without starting a new thread, so...

With the Orioles in search for a new manager, the Baltimore Sun ran an article listing potential candidates for the job and a Spider is among them:

"Mark Budzinski

The 51-year-old first base coach with the Blue Jays doesn’t have ties to the Orioles, but the Severna Park native certainly knows the area. Budzinski played at Severna Park High under coach Jim Pitt and went on to star at the University of Richmond. The former major league outfielder served as manager of the minor league Lynchburg Hillcats and the Akron RubberDucks and spent time on Cleveland’s staff before joining Toronto in 2018."
