VCU game thread: PT 0-0 and CM and team won the one that mattered last year

Our guard play - universally - is abysmal. Across the board except maybe randolph. The other 4 have been somewhere between invisible to awful! And tonight is not an anomaly. We are gonna need wholesale reinforcements at guard or next year will worse than this year.
Yep, it is not good. I still have hope for jaynel, but he has a way to go. We really could have used Smith AND Bizjack.

in Uber headed back to the house with a sad comfortably numb feeling since they were simply the much better team after Tyler went out with 2 fouls at the 15 minute mark in 1st half …

Peter Thomas pulled a Mooney tonight by playing Nelson WAY TOO MUCH! His performance was exceptionally poor, thus he did not earn the minutes that he got. I acknowledge that the other guards played poorly as well, so I guess that Thomas could say that he went with what he hoped would work, BUT, UR guards were destroyed.

You can't win when your guard core is virtually no threat to score, frequently give the ball away, are poor passers (though Bailey made a couple of good passes), and 1 in particular was getting roasted on defense.

point guard is no threat to do anything not even good defense like going under screen and more defense mistakes, Roche should be floating three point line his shooting is lost in this offense when i see him cut like offense says i say bullshit waste of time somehow his position need to be where his defender has collapse for help and kickout but point guard play is no threat for penetration even with high ball screen for this and struggle with step out looks very very bad . every person already knows this . i pray for Coach this is what matters

no strength with the ball , easy to turn, easy to back up, easy to pick up dribbel ,easy to throw off balance pass , and not knowing where to be against pressure when other guard has ball , poor to be available for return pass but i guess will get better or will sit and watch

The only period of time that this was competitive was in the very beginning when we hit the first 3 (maybe it was 4) three pointers to open the game and before VCU really warmed up. Apparently that is what it will take for us to beat them again to shoot 90% from 3 and have them be in hibernation the whole way. Once VCU woke up the game was just brutally over and they were simply playing with their food the rest of the way. We needed Tyler to do too much as usual and while Neal had a good game stats wise I would attribute a lot of that to the refs inexplicably calling a super tight game on the defense when he had the ball compared to the rest of the game. Even with my blue and red glasses on it really stuck out that they were letting him just absolutely have his way down low.

I kept waiting for someone else to step up but it never came. Everybody not named Burton or Quinn combined to score NINETEEN points. That is just not going to get the job done when VCU has 4 guys in double figures and one more with 9 points and another with 7.

Their 7th highest scorer matched the output of our 3rd highest. Uh, that's a problem!

I warned this was a NET game for VCU. No doubt someone in their program recognized the opportunity late in year. Just hit us in the mouth once and it’s over. Tyson v Spinks. But ironically their two wins, by what 27 points combined, should have been double that.

It's enough for the administration that we eliminated them from the A10s last year. That probably bought us five more years of results like this in the meantime. And I absolutely enjoyed the hell out of that game, but it shouldn't be the anomaly.
