VCU 1/29

Honestly. How many of you thought this was going to turn out differently? I sure didn't. It's become comical in a way and plydogg is the cherry on top.
Ah. The wonder of all wonders is would the result have been different if Cayo played some real minutes in the first half.

Here is the kind of stuff that just halls me because I firmly believe it’s a coaching flaw. They took the ball to the rim all day and we gave up an atrocious number of inside buckets and offensive rebounds. Grant committed zero fouls. If you are playing tough, hard interior defense in a game that’s as physical As this, you will have some fouls for sure. But this is typical and not corrected for years (a best interpretation) or is actually coached to avoid fouling (which means to avoid tough defense).

I'm disgusted that fans on this msg board are blaming the refs...that's a loser mentality
I’m a loser. We are all losers. Mooney has made sure of that. Now you can either blame the refs or you can blame me. But either way we are all suckers

Good point. I didn’t realize that until you and another poster just mentioned it. You need to play tougher D inside, and coaches need to make him aware of situation.

I thought we would lose by 20, so it was a little different.

Can someone tell me how we get the ball down 3 with 25 seconds left off of a time out and the shot we get it’s Goose for 3 with 4 seconds left?

That also was the refs fault

(just kidding on this one)

That was absolutely horrible. I think we can all critique Mooney but he’s normally very good at drawing up offensive plays. Team just got out of sync and then Goose correctly took a shot.

The worst part - VCU is not good at the foul line. If Grant has 3 fouls that prevent layups, we might win this game

I paid to be a Spider. And after graduating I donated money, time and emotion to the Spiders. It is disgusting that people who are paid to be a Spider put up with this mediocrity.

Around the 4:00 minute mark I saw a Mooney pose that epitomizes him and his coaching acumen. It was the most perfect representation of his career, and it explains exactly why he and his teams are soft and can't win close games.

Spiders were down by 2 or 4, and play was in progress. Mooney was shown on tv standing and watching. He had his hands behind his head (like clutching himself). The empty look on his face demonstrated fear and anxiety. It was clear from his expression and his body language (and his inaction) that he HAD NO IDEA what to do to help his team.

There will never be a more classic personification of Mooney and his career. Completely clueless at a critical juncture, and paralyzed to inaction! Very sad.

LOL agree and Spiders attempted 14 more fouls shots while VCU had 20 fouls to UR's 12. Plus they got off 7 more FGA than VCU. Also committed 6 less TOs and even got 7 more offensive boards than VCU. And Mooney's team still lost. Shame on the refs for losing this one for the good guys.

As poorly as we played tonight, this game convinces me that we have as good a chance, maybe better than anyone else, of winning the A10 tournament. Nobody, including Davidson is really all that much better than Richmond. We played pretty well against Davidson and lost on a career game by Jones. we played an average to poor game tonight on offense and still only lost by 2. St. Bonny is not that good and either is St Louis. I haven't seen George mason yet. Of all the comments made tonight the ones talking about the need to get the ball inside to Grant and Cayo were the ones I agree with most. Unfortunately the captain of the good ship Moonpie doesn't know how to teach his team to do that. However there is still plenty of time for someone to clue him in so the team can do what it should do more of to win games where we are not hitting from outside.

We can beat any team in this 💩league, but not 4 in a row for sure. Just don’t have the coaching and toughness for it.

How many years does it take him to catch the clue?

That was the worst coaching decision* tonight from Mooney for me. VCU shooting 65% from foul line (#341 in nation) and like mentioned more than once pregame 26% 3PT defense (#2 in nation) So what's the odds you going to make a 3PT goal against them? Especially the fact being Rhodes alerting his players to guard the line.

Maybe, maybe not but please go the the quick two. If Mooney had his notes in front of him how did he decide the strategy he went with? Even if they make 2 free throws you still have time to get off the same desperation heave Goose attempted. You think maybe Rhodes also alerted them that Goose would be the best guy shooting it? :D

*there could be a worst decision so feel free to post it lol

couldn’t even take advantage of Baldwin fouling out & missing lot of time in 2nd half.

vcu may only have 2 or 3 players that can really hurt you but will be back in ncaa on grit & toughness alone.

we have the 8/9 a10 matchup to look forward to again.

We have no chance because we don't make winning decisions when it matters the most. We are soft, indecisive and passive. Just like Mooney.
