UR versus West Virginia

Play the big guy.

Agree. Could say he is a soph right. Could use someone big like PF down low at least on defense taking a few fouls for TJ and might even surprise on offense. Maybe he just isn't showing enough in practice and that would be discouraging but practice isn't a game.

WVU and Cal games may be to fast for PF at this point of his career

WVU dismantled SDSU 72-50, wasn't ever a close game. WVU had 13 steals, SDSU had 21 turnovers. They are going to continue destroy teams who can't handle the ball. Richmond did well against WVU, if we didn't shoot free throws so poorly against them we very well could have won.

Our game tape will provide a blueprint for Big 12 teams on how to play WVU. Along with handling press and not turning it over, have to make Mountaineers shoot from the perimeter. Will be very interesting to see what happens in the WVU-TX matchup in Big 12 play and if either bench runs out of players in 40 min.

The "wizard" of Broad Street has not exactly gotten off to a great start with the Longhorns - would be surprised if they can handle WVU.

West Virginia now ranked 20/15 in AP and USA poll respectively. Cal dropped as expected but still has a good number of votes. Richmond didnt get any votes but that will certainly change if we beat Florida and UNI this week!

We have always handled teams that press well, because we almost always have good guard play and space the floor really well.

our guard play is a little down this year, SDJ excluded. didn't handle the WVU pressure very well. the fouls eventually forced WVU to back off, thank goodness.

I think we handled the full court press well, I don't think we handled their aggressive half court defense terribly well. We never seemed to be able to get in a good offensive flow - but I think a lot of teams will have that problem with WVU this year.

When it is all said and done, we did very well against their press. FT's and poor shooting did us in, a little better either way and the results could have been different.

guess I'm remembering it different. we were down 18-6 against their press. we turned it over and gave up easy baskets. I believe they stopped the crazy intense full court press though due to foul trouble. not because we were attacking it. even when we broke the press we rarely scored off it.

also, I know the foul shooting seemed to hurt, but it wasn't that unusually awful. we hit 21 of 35. to be at our average, we should have hit 24 of 35. we're shooting 69% for the season, while our opponents are at 66%.

our perimeter shooting suffered against WVU ... because they play really tough defense.

One of the things K0, and now SDJ, was great at was forcing the pressing defense to foul. We specifically practice techniques that make the pressing defense foul us. We use their player's aggressiveness against them and force them to run into and bump us. We developed these techniques to use specifically against VCU, but they work against any team that presses aggressively. The reason WVU got into foul trouble so quickly was directly due to our techniques developed to overcome aggressive pressing. This forced them to press less aggressively after the first few minutes against us, however most teams WVU will face this year will have the game plan and players to pull off what we did.
