Guy is amazing. Don’t think I saw him miss once!Kids got some serious range.
I guess the counter to this argument is that the school and majority of fans have supported said coach and his coaching staff for 18 years..almost unprecedented in big time college athletics. This message board and fanbase are absolutely tame compared to almost all the team boards out there. Going to the tournament consistently and winning big games against the best teams in your conference and OOC schedule trumps any message board post by a random keyboard warrior. Those accomplishments (or lack of) fall squarely on the shoulders of the coach. As long as we bad mouth the team (coaches), this will happen again and again. Beware of the things we say that can possibly turn recruits off.
That’s a lot research my friend. You had me after the first sentence of knowing the direction of your post. Maybe I can play devil’s advocate, and say possibly wanted to be a Spider but passed after realizing who was the coach? Not sure what happened to Maddox, but it is obvious no P6 teams wanted him. He left the team after 20 games last season for a family emergency, and his final 2 games before that, he scored 0 points in 20 minutes against Clemson and 0 points in 6 minutes against Duke. When asked in late February if Maddox might return, VT's coach said his family is doing much better, but the likelihood of him returning is not good.
Not sure what to think of all of that, but his performance took a big turn down from his 1st year to his 2nd, as his 2 point % went from 51.9% to 40.4%, and his 3 point % went from 50.6% to 32.3%. Without knowing the whole story, I don't want to just start throwing things out there, but maybe it's not that big of a deal that he didn't come here. Time will tell.
Not really a lot of research...it took about a minute. I knew he had left the team last year for family reasons, and remembered reading about Mike Young's comment saying Maddox probably wouldn't return even though his family was doing better, but didn't realize how dramatic his shooting numbers dropped until looking it up. Sure, you can blame Mooney all you want, and I'm sure that would give you many likes on here for doing so, but if Maddox were down to us and GMU, wouldn't he have already realized who our coach was before all that? That’s a lot research my friend. You had me after the first sentence of knowing the direction of your post. Maybe I can play devil’s advocate, and say possibly wanted to be a Spider but passed after realizing who was the coach?
In reality @GKiller gave us the answer a few days ago why he chose GM. You know it might be fun if we get involved in a point counterpoint back-and-forth between us.
Only others I had heard of were Maddox( obviously gone) and Suggs as of now. But I do believe there may be 1 or 2 out there we are in on.Sdad has mentioned that we have had guys in. Obviously we know about Brown and King. Any others guards out there that are still in play? I know you can't name names, but curious if the one's we have already had on campus are still options or committed elsewhere? Have we had anyone 6'7 or above in for visits?
Green to JMU.We're a finalist for another one...Michael Green III out of Robert Morris. Grad with one year left. Down to us, Long Beach, Longwood, and JMU.
But we will see if it is 1, 2, or 3 of them...VCU twitter rumblings about them about to announce what sounds like a Utah State transfer ..
I know every highlight tape looks good, but this guy is pretty darn impressive athletically, lol. We're on a long list of right-swipers for Jarrett Hensley out of Cincy. Played one year at UNCG then two at Cincy, should have two years left. 6'8" low-minute bench guy from the KC area. Doesn't appear to be a threat from deep.

My thoughts exactly. Seems like the “reach stage” has been reached. Although this one seems to surely get vetoed once any kind of vetting occurs.Feels like a desperate option.
Sounds like a badass.De'Sean Allen-Eikens is looking for his fourth school...two years at North Dakota, one at New Orleans, and last year at CSUN. 6'6" guard shoots ~30% from deep. Rebounds pretty well, but not an assist guy.
I wonder if our staff knows he was arrested a month ago on spring break in Fort Lauderdale for fighting with a bouncer and punching a cop.

@VT4700 I know it's might appear like internet stalking, but presently on A-F scale what's Odom's grade? Still questioning his recruiting ability?
Just comparing them to the natty championship Team Loaded. How are these guys stiffs. All VCU transfers just went P6 and Utah State was the better team. Agree with SouthJersey of course Odom can recruit. Heck he just got 2 white guys to VCU.
These two both play guard, and they both played a lot of minutes last year for Odom on a team that went to the NCAA tournament.@VT4700 I know it's might appear like internet stalking, but presently on A-F scale what's Odom's grade? Still questioning his recruiting ability?
I know, Mooney probably better at retaining his own players. Wait a minute, these two guys weren't even recruited initially by Odom. One measly year with him and leaving to go sideways to a destination that won't guarantee them the same playing time by staying at Utah St. Though IMO a better shot at going to the Dance again considering MWC >>>A10!
We really don't know how well Odom can coach a completely new team with the above two players being only guarantees of showing mid-majors quality but off top of head I say Odom>>>Mooney at attaining success with it.
I apologize to alum here reading this but really for me only way to look at situation. What's the saying, "if you got nothing good to say, don't say anything." That I believe has been going on for too long with the highs-ups of U of R. I believe a few got so frustrated they thought WTF, lets put up a billboard. I think educated enough to know wouldn't get coach sent on his way but needed everyone to know the leafy campus doesn't extend into the Robins Center.
No, it won't. But I doubt Odom has to replace their entire roster every year. I'm not sold on the AAU team reunion guys, because they largely have not lived up to their hype on the college guard.Yes, I am still questioning if Odom can recruit. Do you think this will happen every year, where there will be multiple AAU guys from Richmond who all struggled at their previous spot wanting to transfer? Or, having 2 guys follow him from Utah St.? g.
They are both better than Nelson. This is always the danger for guys like Nelson who either transfer up or transfer laterally. You will likely never be "the guy", and they will always be looking for someone better. In this case, they got someone better sooner rather than later, meaning, like you said, Nelson will likely not be starting. I think Nelson's best interests long term and now would have been to transfer elsewhere, where he would likely get more minutes, and to tell his uncle to stop tweeting. These two both play guard, and they both played a lot of minutes last year for Odom on a team that went to the NCAA tournament.
I think it likely that Nelson will be coming off the bench at VCU, and playing less minutes. He and his uncle won't like it, but, it is probably in his best interest long-term.
