Transfer Portal

We've never targeted P6 guys moving down, for some reason. I'm sure PQ would say it's because none could get in here.

It was only a few posts ago that SF posted the tweet showing our interest in the BC guard. You even responded with "big guard". And, then, you post this???

I expect we’ll end up with at least 1 transfer not publicly listed with. But of those remaining think I like the Army kid the best.

Obv we’ll continue to hit portal but hs recruiting has become undervalued. for teams at our level there is now increased value based on p6 roster approaches. But we’ve done bad job there. & this year w Reed decommit & not getting a 3rd guy another miss imo.

Ok Mr. Literal. Swiping right on one dude clearly demonstrates a long and storied pattern of actively and seriously pursuing P6 players every year. My mistake.

I wonder what impact the comments on lowering expectations for the program and transition years have in recruiting. Let's be honest, if I'm an ACC player looking to transfer down to be a major contributor on a winning team, why would you consider transferring to a school that doesn't value winning? Add to it the underwhelming results of the past nearly 20 years, I'm really not suprised we dont do well with P6 players in the portal.

Just watched his highlights from this year. Not sure what his A10 level skill is. His 3 point jumper loads from down at his waist and takes time to release. Looks a bit like a tweener to me. I’m obviously no expert and all but again SFBK is quite low level D-1. I feel like with Roche, Bigelow and Quinn you could see the skill set - at least 1 skill for each - that would translate anywhere but I’m not quite seeing it here.
he does dip, but his release is plenty high. he's shooting it over guys who aren't always far off of him. he's clearly athletic enough. very bouncy and pretty long.

I'm not sure how much recruits know about this but it certainly doesn't help at all when the highest echelons of university leadership cannot express a commitment and desire to win and win big. It is beyond frustrating that not only do we not have this desire but we can't even fake it anymore.

Bit more exclusive list from Jared Billups and we're still on it.

Billups says he has taken one visit to George Mason this past Friday. He added he’s also received interest from Davidson, Richmond, JMU, Murray State, and VCU.

If we don't have a guard that can score off the dribble and shoot 3's from the portal by end of next week, this will be a big time failure for Mooney. He is working his way back into my dog house after this last season. This past season was the perfect opportunity to build off the NCAA season, and I like who we got in the portal. But either they weren't who we thought they were, OR Moon did not figure out how to blend them in and get the best out of them. Based on his slow adaptation, maybe this season we will be better. But we need a guard that can do a lot and be an A10 level starter day 1, and we do need someone that can play defense and is athletic. Hoping we have both by end of next week or we may be on a very slippery slope.

It isn't just one dude and you know that. Look at MD's list. BC, Cal, UNC, and 2 from Butler. And, that is just what is officially out there. We have likely contacted lots of others who don't share everything on Twitter. It's just laughable that you make comments like this, which are not only so easily proven wrong, but ones that often include a jab at Mooney, Hardt, or, like this latest one, PQ, getting on them for either doing or not doing what you wrongly posted about them.

I agree with your assessment of our current situation. If we as so called fans continue to shoot our program in the foot, then the program will not strive. I have repeatedly pointed to this alarming trend, I understand wanting the best for our program, it is time that we stop stumping on a dead horse. If you want our program to be successful, its time to stop denigrating our program.

Gcarter, I get you, BUT and a HUGE BUT , the expectation from the admin, largest donor, and AD are set very low. That is a bigger problem. We can all come on here and blow smoke but those guys need to get on board first and SHOW they care, make a statement at the very least.

That is why I love following SDSU, they have their ups and downs, but the coaches are all talking big, and this year it finally paid off. DARE to DREAM spidernation. Sometimes they come through or at least the results are pretty good.

Come on down Joe Bamisile! He’s already been a 16 PPG and 5 RPG guy in the A10. Also averaged a steal and block per game. If his waiver is approved and he wants to come to UR this seems like a no brainer. Could be a better transfer than Blake Francis, just my two cents

In the one game he played against us two seasons ago he had 29 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 turnover.

I'd be shocked if Mooney went after someone like Bamisile with his history. That much movement plus an original decommit to Northwestern is usually a red flag. idk but I assume ship has sailed w him. & not sure why he'd get waiver tho I'm ignoring that everyone gets a waiver!

We're a finalist for another one...Michael Green III out of Robert Morris. Grad with one year left. Down to us, Long Beach, Longwood, and JMU.

We're also talking to Devin Carney, who redshirted his first year at Duquesne so he has four years left. He was originally an Elon commit, but decided to stay closer to home after a coaching change there. Had a bunch of HS offers from the likes of Bona, Mason, Chatty.

ACC Basketball Transfer Portal Roundup - Mid April Update

Chance McMillian will visit Texas Tech on Monday after he wraps up at Colorado this weekend. Seems like he's looking to stay west.

I stand corrected. Clearly, we are making major inroads in our pursuit of P6 transfers by swiping right on five or six of them this year. I look forward to seeing several in our starting lineup next year, which we all know is highly likely to happen.

P6 talent - Good P6 players are getting good NIL money I believe. I know sman has shot this down, but there is more solid evidence. So we are likely out on anyone that has legit P6 , unless we have a Ruiz type investor - and woe is me PQ is not that guy it would seem.

Saw rumblings on SDSU board that Keshad Johnson (entered draft, and portal) has some big NIL deals lined up. This is a guy who reminds me a lot of Darius Garrett, big time athlete, but never became a big time offensive talent, does some things very good, and others not so good. Anyway, my point is this: SDSU at present cannot or does not want to compete paying guys big bucks. They pay every player 2 grand / month from an NIL fund. I think that may be more the model we need to go to. Heck, they lost an Iona transfer to another MW school for 150,000.00. So yes sman it is real. see article, and this is just the tip.

Bottom line, we are not going to be able to get a proven p6 player, let alone a smaller conference guy a lot of p6 offers. Probably Roche and Quinn if they were in portal this year we would have been outbid.

So that is probably reason number 1 why we are only involved with "depth" type guys.

Mooney did well last year I thought, but have the feeling he is not going to fare as well this year. Sounds like we had guys on campus according to sdad. I would be glad to be proven wrong, but my guess is we are going into next season just adding depth guys, no guard that can carry us or athletic interior players

Gilly in that recent interview said he got some NIL money last year at Richmond. I still don't think it's big money unless you're P5 monster or have a Ruiz, but it can be enough to sway some kids.

I was in favor of the NIL concept in that an athlete should be able to earn money. but I didn't foresee it as a recruiting thing. hard enough being a mid major and competing. I want the Spiders to get great players, but I personally am not willing to pay money to make it happen.

Tyler is not staying at UR because he really likes studying at Boatwright Library. We had better have an NIL in place for him by his decision day or it’s bye-bye.G league math $ v NIL $ is pretty straight forward.

If so, next season does not look promising.
