The Fight in Ukraine and its Heroes

He'll "end the war" by pulling US support to Ukraine and then telling his butt-buddy Putin we support Russia keeping the territory it has already captured. Captain Appeasement.

Wood, for someone who supports a party that champions the rights of gays, transgenders, etc.(rightfully so) why would you of all people use the term "butt-buddy" to make your point? Just a slip? Mistake?

Ukraine is attacking, en mass, Russia's infrastructure. The Ukrainians were given a lot of really good equipment by the Biden administration. I think they did this in coordination with the incoming Trump Administration.

Ryazan is a few hundred miles southeast of Moscow. It's main power plant and fuel depots were attacked last night. Ryazan is about 500 miles from Kyiv.

Trump is going to apply maximum pressure against Russia. We will 1) up the sanctions and tariffs against Russia, 2) force India and China to stop buying Russian oil, 3) force Europe to cut off Russia completely, and 4) spur American development of oil and natural gas.

Russia should never be able to use its oil and gas as leverage against the West again.

Gen. Jack Keane has suggested that the US obtain funding for the Ukrainians by 1) seizing the $300B in Russian assets that are frozen in western banks, 2) loan goods to Ukraine on lend lease basis, where the Ukrainian Government is obligated to repay the funds to the US with an interest rate, or 3) use existing Ukrainian assets, such as rare earth minerals, to secure payment for equipment.

I would prefer the first, where Russia pays for its own defeat, using the second and third options as fall-back positions.

Here is an interview with Jack. They were discussing a Washington Post article he co-wrote with Marc Theissen.

This article lays the foundation for how the US can end the war. There is no pay wall on this one from the Washington Post, it's worth the read.

The time has come to transition Ukraine from an aid recipient to a defense consumer — just like many other U.S. friends and allies across Europe, Asia and the Middle East who purchase U.S. defense materiel. This is the only sustainable way to build a lasting defense cooperation between Washington and Kyiv.

This is a very good talk about the rationale for peace between Russia and Ukraine. The war will not end kinetic, by the parties killing each other. Gen. Kellogg noted that Russia fights wars by throwing bodies at it. For example, they lost over 700,000 men at Stalingrad.

Only remember that Russia signed a mutual defense treaty with North Korea, which is sending troops, arms, ammunition and equipment to prop up Putin.

The Russian army is still the 2nd best in Ukraine. In fact Russian ingenuity knows no bounds. They are back to using pack mules to transport arms to the front.

The Russians are also using camels to transport supplies to the front. I didn't know camels could survive in the snow.

Taking Russia's side here is certainly a choice.
Any negotiating Trump has with Russia should begin with the words...
We can do this the hard way or the easy way. The hard way is if you do not voluntarily withdraw your forces to 1991 borders, you will be crushed. I will cut off your oil revenue from China and India, and I will use American energy to reduce your ability to sell your oil products to the world. I will enforce a no fly zone over Ukraine. I will further supply lethal weapons to Ukraine that will allow them to utterly destroy your army in the field. Finally, I will push to have Ukraine added to NATO. Have you forgotten the last time a Russian army returned home defeated? It was in 1917. Your country cannot afford this and it will disintegrate. You will be left without a country. You will have no place to go.

The easy way, you voluntarily withdraw your forces and you can still have your country.

Never happen, Pete has already shown breaks in the Administration.

Gally, I totally agree with this post. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, the chances of Trump, Rubio or Hegseth doing what you suggest are "Slim and none, and Slim just left town."

Please google Jeffery Sachs to get some background on why this war happened.
I'm out!
This war was a war of choice by Putin. It was caused by Biden's signal of weakness and his retreat from Afghanistan. Within 3 weeks of that event, Putin began amassing troops on the Ukrainian border. I will refer you to the discussion of the Biden Doctrine. Weakness abroad, open borders and destructive economic policies at home.
