Starting lineup

agreed nick should come off the bench. I think his time at the 2 might be over and we’ll see him in the game with gilyard and another guard going forward. This lineup might eat into Cayos minutes until he turns it around.

I would just like to say that I have advocated for Dji being out starting 2 guard since the end of last year. I think he brings a crafty defensive skill set that this team needs desperately. That said, Wilson is clearly above him on the depth chart and so if we were to make a replacement in the starting line-up he would be first in line. I really like the defensive intensity that a Wilson-Gilly combo could bring.

Regardless starting Sherod should be our last option right now. I would start Wilson in front of him, I would start Dji in front of him. Sherod would be 3rd on the depth chart if I were coach. Bring Sherod off the bench, if he gets hot shooting, than we can ride him, if not, I would limit his minutes because he is such a defensive liability right now.
You make good points. I think it has to be at least one of those guys. Zay is 1st off the bench mostly and so I would think it would be him. Also with Gilly not coming out at all the 1st two games I think that throws the minutes off of what we all think "we would do" as far as guys off the bench. Wilson is a more in your face guy and high energy. We need that but we also need quality stops consistently too, and I think Dji and Zay are our best options. At least until Goose is able to return and be 100%. We have a lot of guys with reconstructed knees, hips, and groins and those always make you less of a player to some degree especially laterally. We have enough guys to find working combos. jmo.

My biggest question going into the game tomorrow is did Moon see what everyone else saw in how much Nick was lacking in our last game and will adjust his minutes and starting role accordingly. I am ready to perform the world's largest eyeroll if he gets the start again.
ITo me the question should be, why did he not see this in all of the offseason workouts. All of us have just seen about 40 minutes of play in the first 2 games and already have sirens going off that he is not 100%. Why didn't the coaches see this with their much more extended look they had.

Is that a rhetorical question?

If I try hard to come up with a way that it could be overlooked the only thing that really comes up is maybe it was just not as apparent when playing/practicing against our own guys? But we did have two secret scrimmages against actual opposition and hard to imagine Sherod looked ready in those games but all of a sudden wasn't ready when the games counted right?

Mooney is loyal to a fault because he is the proverbial good guy and has the most comfortable job in all of D1 basketball. It's getting harder and harder to cheer and support the school that I love so much.

Well if you’re looking for a somewhat rational explanation it would be that he knew he’d be a defensive liability but he’ll make shots and space the floor enough to offset it on offense. Problem is, he’s not made shots or offset the defensive liabilities.

There is a role for nick, it just isn’t playing/starting as the 2.
