Maybe I’m over reacting, but I don’t think Sherod should be starting for us or playing more than 10-15 minutes a game. He’s walking around on offense, and clearly doesn’t have the athleticism at this point to defend at a D1 level. It seems like we’re playing our best ball when he’s off the floor.
Personally I’d like to see Crabtree take his spot. Crabtree has been a good defender for us so far this season, and we we’ve been told he’s a good shooter. He brings good size as well

Sherod really struggling on defense. Big liability. Maybe offense off the bench if he can get his shot back.
Agreed. And this should’ve been his role to begin with. I love the leadership he brings but not sure how Mooney is justifying starting him other than “he’s a 6th year”. Certainly he must’ve looked as bad/worse than this over the summer

Hey some of us said Sherod is not a guard. Period. And not after two ACL'S. He can have a role for us but all our fears about defense are coming to fruition. Again, it is a culture thing regarding defense. Mooney does not emphasize, it's probably not going to be able to be fixed while moon is here. I bet Hardt woke up, saw the score and rolled right back over.

Hardt can't be bothered with some silly basket ball sporting event on a Friday night, he has much more important things to attend to.

3 year extension coming after we beat Georgia State in overtime

I get that Grant is a big and needs rest, but he always seems to be sitting when the game could swing in either direction.
Yep. He played 30 really solid minutes. The subs gotta step up for those other ten. I think grace played acceptably on O, not so great on D. Our bigger problem was at the 4, very little production there.

It might be a good idea to start Wilson instead of Nick and try to set the tone defensively from the opening tip. Their minutes might not change all that much, but I could see maybe the whole team rallying a little defensively around Wilson's on the ball defense. Nick could come in off the bench and maybe hit some 3s to give us a spark there. There will be plenty of games where we need Nick's shooting and I think he will come through with some 4-5 or 4-6 type games from 3. Let's not count him out.

I’d go w Wilson too. But we shouldn’t act like we have a lot of great options either. The bench is pretty underwhelming.

Goose is FAR & away the best option and he’s hurt. Can’t get back fast enough. If he’s not starting he should be a super sub & get starter like minutes.

I know it, you know it, Coach knows it, and Nick knows it. The TV announcers pointed it out on one play. Out of respect to Nick Sherrod i dont think you should have put it in a public forum. It was beneath you. And it was mean.

No one is being mean. He’s just not ready.

My starting lineup would be as follows as we wait for Nick to get his legs back.

Gilyard
Burton
Crabtree
Cayo
Golden

Thomas is first player to come off bench (excluding Grace) and replaces Crabtree with Burton moving to the 3. Nick comes in at some point as well

I would start Goose when he comes back.

Wilson just is not an offensive threat and his passing decisions are suspect. Agree his defensive aggressiveness is great.

Who’s Thomas? You must know someone I don’t know…

Wilson’s defense is great, but he’s scored 0 points in 36 minutes for us this year. He should not be starting. We need someone who is solid on defense and can also hit an open shot. That’s why I believe Crabtree is the best option. He can handle the ball as well (or at least as well as Sherod can).

Isaiah was a top5 recruit out of PA who averaged over 15ppg. He can clearly score. He’s gotta actually take shots, and makeable shots. Right now he’s driving the lane and kicking out rather than looking to score. Just score Isaiah, your shots will go in.

Crabtree and Dji seem to present the best combination of offense/defense/size.

I would largely be making my decision on those minutes to whoever fixes me a) the best matchup and b) best defensive effort in practice.

Start Gilyard, Golden and any three other non-starters. What the hell do we have to lose at this point?

But, he would be starting with 4 guys who can and have all scored a lot, and, like T said, he can score.

Cayo is a scorer but not a shooter. Not sure we can start with another non-shooter (or at least hasn’t proven to be a good shooter yet) in Wilson

I think our bench is pretty solid. And, starting Wilson would make the bench even better because Nick might come in some games and get hot from 3. Grace, Nick, Crabtree, and Andre when he comes back is a heck of a bench.

I said in another thread that I thought Mooney has ridden the Sherrod pony too long. God bless him for trying, but he’s not the Sherrod of old.

Fair point, and in the off season I said we should replace Blake with the best defensive guy who can make 3s. Maybe starting could make Wilson more comfortable, and give him more freedom to shoot the 3. He made a few last year, and I think he could knock enough down to be a factor. But, this past game makes it obvious we have to turn things around defensively, and I think that starts with starting Wilson.

Several played much better 3 years ago. Maybe they've gotten too old (serious here)? 5-6 years of full time college basketball has got to be wearing on them.
