Spiders beat WM 5-4 today. Jacob Mayers doubled home runner from second with two out in bottom of the ninth for game winner. Mayers also picked up win in relief by pitching scoreless top of ninth. Spids now 18-9 on the season.

Is there any truth to the I or that Mayers might be working himself back into pitching shape for the 2nd half of the season? I heard that rumor and now we see him pitch the 9th today. Was this to conserve pitching or could he be the new closer or an eventual weekend starter?

We are a better team with him on the mound. But I know an injury forced him to focus only on hitting. This would be a huge lift for the rest of the season.

Vol, I don't know the answer to your question but getting some innings out of Jake here and there would be a huge boost.

Too bad the guys aren't at home this weekend. Looks like we'll finally get some great weather.
