Spiders paused through February 12 - GMU, Dayton, GW, and VCU games postponed

Well u can be suggestive by questions. Look at his other tweets. He also suggested that SLU had developments on their side but did not want to say. Not all were questions. I like O'Connor he's a pro and one can say he's just doing his job. But I also get why SLU fans would be giving it back to him right now.

Also where is Matt Smith?
Isolated at the Westin?

SLU is the team in our conference - probably in the nation - that can least afford another pause. Their decision has been completely vindicated.
True, but we're getting into that territory too. NCAA tournament wasn't looking so good already based upon our losses to teams we were supposed to beat, but now it gets tougher if we can't even play games. More transparency from Hardt might give him a little more credibility. Haven't been impressed with him since he arrived, and this season has done nothing to reflect differently on his leadership & communication skills.

This just keeps getting better. Wonder if UR Athletics will ever learn that the truth is the best policy.

Exactly what I wondered came to pass. Could another visiting team also call “foul” on how UR interpreted its test results? Sounds like the answer is yes, so at least one player had to be isolated for additional tests. I am sure the team isn’t on pause yet because need to wait a couple days to get test results.

Now we see that it was UR that was desperate to play game vs SLU and of course SLU is trying to get to 13 games. UR already had its qualifying number so it doesn’t have that to worry about. Too bad an at-large isn’t so easy to come by.

The situation on campus is much worse this semester than last, so it is only natural that the basketball team is having some trouble. For some reason, the basketball team thinks it doesn’t have to be transparent like the school has to be regarding the situation on campus. Anyone can look at the UR Covid dashboard for example. Athletes are going to hotels though instead of the dedicated facilities on campus to handle isolation and quarantine. Sounds like a sticky situation to me....

More likely that SLU’s concerns were legit and inconclusive tests or whatever have since been confirmed. SLU never set foot in the RC.
Not in the RC, but maybe the SLU team hung out with our team‘s girlfriends, and one of them mentioned she was positive before she left? ;)

I agree with 2020, we pause and this season is done. Is poor administration or management of protocols? Is it poor
basketball personnel compliance which includes players and coaches? Are the fans being fed erroneous info? I don’t
know but my hope for this season has pretty much been flushed away. On Monday Mooney has a chance to be direct, answer questions and renew our faith in his and the ADs leadership.

Carolina - you’re much too wise a man to expect that Mooney will answer any questions on Monday.

My prediction is that snow cancels the show FWIW...but there’s no way he’s answering anything close to a tough question.

I seriously challenge someone to find a more dysfunctional athletic program at the top than UR. Maybe Tennessee football but damn UR is right up there too. This is a dictatorship where the interests of a few at the top trumps anything else and those who question the people at the top are shunned or called bad fans. Do y’all remember what Bob black said last year about UR losing fans? That right there was a prime example of what I’m talking about.

I’m agreeing with the young pup at VT. I can’t say that expected to see this day but he’s hit the nail on the head. This is a top down issue.

JOC article...pause is now official. Couple quotes from Hardt, but they unsurprisingly don't really say anything.

On Sunday, Hardt said, “This pandemic has made the basketball season just completely topsy-turvy. This is yet another chapter.”

[...] According to Hardt, the length of the current suspension depends on additional testing and contact tracing.

“We’re going to do everything we can to make sure [players and staff] are safe and healthy, but we’re also going to do everything we can to ensure they’ve got the opportunity to play,” he said Sunday.

“RICHMOND, Va. - VCU's Men's Basketball contest against Fordham, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 31, as been postponed out of an abundance of caution with COVID-19 protocols. VCU will travel to take on Rhode Island on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Ryan Center in Kingston, R.I.“

VCU played last night, covid pausing today and playing again on Wednesday?

VCU is not pausing (yet). Not clear what the issue was, but seems to have been something on Fordham's end...they were first to announce yesterday.

renew our faith? There's been no leadership. And DT is right I'd be shocked if there is a show too. They canceled a spider club/sth holder zoom last time we went on pause. Forget snow easy to say shut down due to covid. Regardless they don't allow tough questions they get Ivan on and have softballs from Philly Bob.

Well, here I go again: When Jabba came in some folks were singing his praises. And I get it, seemed like he would have to be an upgrade from the last guy. But he has not showed my anything, other than a hide behind stupid platitudes and under his desk vibe since day 1. I was not impressed and fail to be impressed. As I said on another thread, if we ever wake up and get rid of Mooney, my biggest fear is Jabba making decisions. As many faults as Mooney has, I bet Hardt can do a lot worse.

I'd say Noah could look into this but I have a feeling UR will not be as cooperative with him going fwd.

I've raised the UR Covid hotel before. I mean I don't think we have our own personal hotel we've leased for months. Do we tell the hotel hey we r bringing our positive students to u? Do they in turn notify their customers that they house positive cases from the local university?

We have long acted like we are strong community stewards. why not use own facilities to isolate and quarantine. On top of other great protocols such as apparently allowing our student athletes to break our university off campus protocols, this hotel "protocol" seems to be in direct contradiction of who we say we are. Maybe there are good valid reasons I don't know.

Well, this sure makes Hardt's comment on Friday foolish. Is it that tough to have a just a little bit of transparency from him about what happened with SLU? This has been a hallmark of his tenure whenever he speaks to the media. So disappointing. But honestly, does anyone except anything different from this crew. I sure don't.

Not addressing the prior StL issue is cowardly. How did you pass Friday?, what did StL know you didn’t? What changed? ........

Yeah, Noah went top rope on them with Collegian op-ed, calling them out as hypocrites. Would imagine his access within the AD might henceforth not be as free flowing.

We do have our own “COVID hotel.” They brought in modular units with room for 150 students for isolation and quarantine.

You act like the right hands talks to the left. We are way too dysfunctional to use the resources we have in place. Instead we’ll spend money at Marriott and bump up our “CoVid spending” so that no one can question our commitment. Throw good money away and we claim it’s a sign that we care.

Restart the season three times. I don't see the end of this...

Another pause likely takes us up until mid February. Then, it’ll take at least another 2 weeks before we get back in a rhythm. That essentially takes us right up to the A10 tourney. Pack it in boys, the season is over

Best class ever. Idk why but it is just now hitting me how disrespectful that is to the class of Anderson, Harper, Geriot, and Smith. That class had a lot of talent but those guys were also as mentally tough as it got. They came in towards the beginning of the Mooney era and are the only reason he even still has a Division 1 coaching job. If I were any of those guys I’d be pissed that Mooney is calling this current class the best class ever.

If a UR player deliberately violated Covid Team Protocols( for instance -attended a party), is that a violation of team rules which subjects the player to possible suspension or is there a waiverfor Covid violations?

Loved that class (who didn't), but how would we talk about it if the season had to end after the regular season after their junior years, and if they had 3 covid pauses their senior years?

The junior team would have ended at 24-7 with an early loss to W&M, but wins in 10 of their last 11 games (sound familiar?), while the senior team, through 15 games, was 11-4 with losses to Iona, ODU, and Bucknell. Again, sound familiar? What if they never would have had a chance in the A-10 or NCAA tourneys? Wouldn't we be calling a different class the best ever?

Well, coach talked about it 24 months ago. Had he not done that, it wouldn't be a discussion point.

Intentionally break Covid rules should be automatic dismissal. And that goes for the coaches too. Everyone should be very well versed on the rules by now.

That senior class would wipe the floor with the current one. Say what you want but last year they would have gotten upset in the first round of the conference tournament and hence would have missed the NCAA’s yet again. But hey I’m sure they would made a really exciting nit run. We will never truly know what would have happened but I think

With the fear of getting attacked yet again, I will say it anyway..... after 12 and 13 win seasons, I kind of liked having that attitude going into their junior year. This doesn't seem any different than saying Burton could be our best player ever. That's not disrespecting anybody else. Just praising the guy you have now. So, 2 years ago, what's the big deal in what he said? I mean, really? If he didn't say something like that, I think most of this board would be jumping all over him because he was settling for average with them instead of having high goals. And, the bottom line is we will never know how last year could have turned out. It's not like we went 10-8 in the league with 19 or 20 wins overall. We had a damn good year, won 24 games, and looked great at times doing it. So, sure, we can't say it's definitely the best class ever, but can we really say it's definitely not?
