Sorry Coach Tarrant--truly he's a great coach in Richmond history and helped put basketball on the map nationally, but the greatest coach ever at Richmond has to be Matt Barany. 16 conference championships?! That's insane. Congratulations to him and the team for running away with another conference crown.

16 A-10 championships, but Barany has only been coach for 12 of them...small potatoes. ;)

He better be careful ... too much winning and Hardt may decide he doesn't fit in with the more prominent programs and axe him.

I am just curious, do we ever score points at the NCAA meet?
We scored a few points in the 2004-07 timeframe with the Boncher/Adams/Witt group, but not since then. Every few years we'll have a swimmer fast enough to qualify for NCAAs (Hannah Gouger was the most recent in 2019), but it's not a regular occurrence, and of course scoring is another step up.

The A-10 might send one or two swimmers to NCAAs each year, if that. An A-10 program has only scored points at NCAAs eight times in history, and the Spiders' run in the mid-2000s account for half of those.

NCAA meets are hard to score in if you're not a major power. That's the true measure of a program's strength. The local women's team here (men were discontinued in the 1970s) had three Olympians, some All-Americans and even an NCAA champion, which was a complete shock, but could never come close to a top-6 finish at the Pac-10/12 meet. They just dropped the program last year.
