I'm not a huge fan of this running back by committee approach. It's got to be tough for these young guys to build confidence, particularly when we're adding wide receivers to the rotation back there.

I'd like to see us pick a horse and ride it. Thoughts?

I think that is what will happen when one steps to the front of the class

Thompson and Goodall are ready.Palmer needs more work.
Goodall showed toughness vs Seawolves. He took on defenders and was actually targeted
which was somehow nullified. He has inside toughness, gets to the hole quickly and has outside edge speed.
Thompson has speed and can get to the 2nd level but needs to get to the hole quicker.

I liked the slight balance of Thompson/Goddall, agree with 32 that Palmer isn't ready. I did not like using Abell has a half-back, doesn't add anything those two guys don't bring and just slows down the rhythm. Hope we gets the back involved with screens more, should help them build some confidence. But truthfully if no one blocks for them we could have Hightower back there and still get beat.

Strong take.

I agree with the above that the Abell experiment back there will only slow the process of getting Xavier and Deontez experience. And I also agree that Palmer just isn't there yet.

The bright side of this whole thing is that most teams who lose a running back and have 2 freshman as the 2nd and 3rd string don't have as much talent in those #2 and #3 guys as we do.

I think Xavier needs more touches. He looks to me to be the most polished runner of the 3. No matter the back, the O line has got to get mean again and get some push. Way to much penetration into the backfield the last two weeks.

Not certain UR has a horse at this point of career. Play 2 and see what develops. O line looked so weak and play calling did not take advantage of what we have. Only thing I am certain of is that UVA is far weaker than I Dreamed.

Bottom line is that we need to run block much better up front. Too many negative yardage plays the last two weeks on runs. Getting stopped too many times on 3rd and short. We have big guys up front and a bunch of strong TE's. Those guys need to make a statement and start moving guys off the ball.

agree with your original take MO. last season the coaches were forced into riding one guy and look what took place. not saying that would happen automatically again but it sure worked last season. let one guy step up, does not matter who it might be.

I agree we need to pick a primary back and stick with him. I think RBs need to get in a flow and only touches will provide this. Jacoby thrived last year after he became the primary back but it was only due to an injury. Give #2 the ball and some daylight and he will become special!

How do you not use Broadus in a 3 and 1 or 4th and 1 situation out of the wildcat with 10 blockers? He is 6'4 235 pounds- he can fall forward for a yard!
