Random Thoughts Thread

JOC is not a hard hitting shock journalist. He asks one difficult question from time to time, and the thin skinned Mooney gets pissed. I watched that interview, yes Mooney is still mad about that. Wish JOC had rode him hard the last 6 years, it does seem to be motivating him finally.
I don't even understand at all why that was considered a tough question. It seems pretty normal to even want to offer fans some thanks for support during these tough times. Seriously coach. You lose me more everyday.

If I recall, one of Mooney's few team rules for his players is "DON'T BE A JERK". Evidentally, the rule doesn't apply to him as evidenced by his reaction to O'connor!

Look, I'm not one to take up for O'Connor, though I liked his question.
The truth is that if he is worth his mettle as a reporter he should continue to annoy Mooney with such questions. They are totally legit. He doesn't need Mooney to like him. And Mooney doesn't own the only platform for discussion. So it's not like his response on Spider TV will be the loudest voice. JOC and the RTD should know this. And respect it. And use it. And act accordingly.

The lack of such questions is an example of why, in my opinion, the RTD lacks credibility. Totally worthless as perceived by most. Sycophants, to give them the benefit of the doubt.

So let's see if they can take up for themselves and the local sports media rather than being so deferential and obsequious to those in power at local institutions such as UR.
Grow some balls, JOC and RTD.
Maybe you will earn more subscribers in the process.

I doubt that the powers at RTD will heed this, should they even deign to read our forum, and even if they should, I doubt that they would proceed along such an adventurous path, for they do not appear to be interested in providing their readers with anything worth reading or thinking about.
No perspective whatsoever. It's their trademark. They are cowards. And given my recollection of their history over the last thirty odd years, it seems almost preposterous to think of such a vision would be possible for them.

So I certainly do not expect a legitimate response from them, directly or through independent means. I suspect that they will be content to continue to cower at Mooney's disrespectful put-downs. Tuck their tails. Avoid the truth. By all means, avoid confrontation.

However, it would be a pleasant surprise to see an article about the question and its repercussions. After all, think about it...asking such questions...isn't that what they get paid to do?
Isn't that what readers are interested in?
Earn your pay, JOC and RTD...do your job.
Stay alive.
Change your ways. Become pertinent. You will be pleasantly surprised at the result.

Is this Mooney vs JOC an actual thing or just a message board overreaction? Is anyone else in Richmond commenting on it?
I think it is over-reaction by message board people. I think Mooney and John are just being playful and I think in a way, Mooney was trying more to compliment the UR student on their question by making a joke to John at his expense. I don't think this is much of anything.

it's FMM fans looking for any "gotcha" moment they can run with. I think the fake outrage at this perceived JOC slight is pretty funny and I'm sure unnecessary, but to be safe SpiderNation might want to fund raise to send flowers in support. wouldn't want JOC to think his hard hitting efforts are unappreciated.

I know the keep pro-Mooney contingent bring up the youth of his team and how much better the squad will get just from experience. I agree with that statement. Well I wanted to look over rosters of A10 teams currently ranked ahead of the Spiders according to Kenpom for this season so far.

Only showing players getting normal rotation minutes, the FACTS are St Louis has 3 seniors, Dayton 1, UMass 1, and Bonny 1 and the likes of Davidson, St Joe's, VCU, Rhody, and the Dukes have 0 seniors. Seems to be a troubling concern of what Mooney must accomplish to get his team ahead of the these teams. Plus I didn't even look at these teams commits/transfers for 2019 compared to UR's additions.

I'm watching the Xavier v. Cincinnati game and it is incredible what tough defense and rebounding can do to help a team. Cincinnati is not a great offensive team but is very well coached on defense. They have a lot of size clogging the paint, box out after every shot, contest every 3, and are fighting for rebounds both on the defensive and offensive end. They are holding Xavier to only 36 points with 8 minutes left in the game. Mick Cronin is always energized and you can tell he pushes to get the best out of his players.

Keep the Fight.
I think we will win conference games more this year. Now for Coach is that we have bench , for Coach to be in some game ways more aggressive I think. two possessions late in game with best legs makes into a WIN instead of close and maybe win. These are new times . Lets make thinking changes without the loss showing the reason .
It is the ten percent extra work that makes the knife the sharpest.
I know we can do this year.
Keep the Fight.

Saw this video and thought it was a pretty good summary of our situation. Watch up to the 2:30 minute mark and replace the words Marvin Lewis with Mooney, the Bengals with Richmond basketball, and playoff game with A10 Championship/NCAA tournament appearance (though Mooney has been to the tournament twice).

By the way, Marvin Lewis has been fired....

This domes up our situation to a T. We have truly a unique situation in college basketball on our hands at UR with chris Mooney.

Question I have for the pro-Mooney posters. They suggest Mooney has some quality pieces to work with, which I agree with. With that also stating Mooney hasn't done that bad in recruiting. Okay, if both are the case and after seeing what these quality pieces have done so far under Mooney, how can you not want these unfortunate, good kids given the opportunity to hear another voice guiding them?

At this point, I honestly think there are no "fan" truthers left. The only ones defending this crap on here were S-man, 4700 and Ulla.

Ulla has gone into hiding. S-man and 4700, it seems are finally seeing the writing on the wall. Come on boys, the Mafia welcomes all.

I think the only "truthers" left are people who are employed by UR athletics, former Mooney players, player's family members. And that is it, in my opinion.

Contemplating Spider basketball reminds me of a favorite band from late 70s to 90s and one of their signature songs - our program is in "Dire Straits" and we are spending "Money for Nothing".

Know our team will fight valiantly again Wednesday. Go Spiders!

We're still Brothers in Arms.

Hopefully Mooney will do the "Walk of Life" out the Robins Center in March, but instead he keeps showing us his "Latest Trick", which is his ability to choke 9 point leads in the second half.

Kenpom's conference ratings do slightly change daily, but presently the A10 is at +0.82, just behind the Ivy league at +0.94. Wow! How far we have fallen. And just thinking about Noah Yates, played for Yale right. Yale presently 13-4 and #80 accordingly by Kenpom. Really improved from last year.

Wondering maybe Yates seen the writing on the wall and thought his playing time would dwindle staying at Yale? He could get more playing time somewhere else. Ended up with Mooney's team. I don't know, thinking, remember somewhere that some poster stated that a grad student only was leaving a school because he knew a frosh sharp shooter would be taking his playing time away.

Nothing so complicated - he had no eligibility left at Yale.

Here’s another reason why the youth argument isn’t a good one in my eyes. Many teams in the A10 are in our position in that regard. Again, when our leadership stops finding excuses like inexperience or youth on our team as reasons to keep Mooney and accepts the fact that he hasn’t performed to expectations and history suggests he can’t turn things around, that’s when we can move forward as a program.

LOL. Great pic grab there 17! Unarguable FACT. And David and VCU have 0. And Dayton 1. All squads better than Mooney's team this season. Even the Dukes have 0 and probably better than Mooney's team. AD Hardt needs that pic emailed to him to put in his reasons to fire Mooney folder.
