Pre-Season # 25 ( I think 15 is more apropos - and Goodman agrees)

Good find 23.........bring it on...............basketball "talk" on the basketball board! Gotta love it....................We are getting some "R E S P E C T"
 
Glad to be noticed.

I also noticed this guy completely missed Crabtree as a newcomer, which should make us even better, I would hope.
 
Also with Wilson being a newcomer he would be on the bench, not sure why he was omitted. I feel like we should be ahead of SLU or swap places with them.

I’ll take 35. We weren’t e en in some brackets heading into the A10 tournament so it’s not an irrational position.

I do think we can and should start higher when folks take a hard look at what we have coming back, which is everything and then some.

Agree. Next year's team should easily be Top 25 + to start. AND, in the 1 & done and multi-transfer environment, a team of seniors & juniors who have played together for years is positioned for a major run in the NCAA tournament. Should be a special season for Spiders, one that basketball fans yearn for year-after-year.
 
I really hope we don’t start the season ranked. I’d prefer to not have every team we face to start the year have that extra motivation.

I can understand ply, but we can't have it both ways. We have earned the right to be ranked. It may be something that we need to have an edge. Go Spiders!!

Right now I don’t think we’ve earned that right. Being a bubble team to me is not earning a top 25 rank. Maybe we will end up there but I think we need to show we earn it over our first 8-10 games next season. I can say that there are easily 25 teams whose fans believe they have as good a case or better than we do

Edit: Gcarter, I do think that if the season had ended we would have 100% earned a spot on the top 25 by making the tournament and making noise. I don't mean to be a pessimist here I just think with how things ended we didn't have that chance to truly EARN that spot and respect.

Not only will they be five seniors, but five seniors WHO HAVE STARTED ALL OR MOST ALL GAMES SINCE THEY WERE FRESHMEN!

I bet if someone adds up the total games that Gilyard, Francis, Golden, Sherod, and Cayo have started after three years, it's got to be close to a record. As well as total points for their careers, with four over 1,000 and the other getting very close!

A positive for a preseason ranking is "perhaps" some teams may consider us a better matchup for OOC schedule as we would be a higher quadrant matchup. Flip side is the reluctance to play us because of a higher chance they would lose to us.

spider fan, yes, would think if we can be aggressive with scheduling, this pre-season hype should certainly help. Just think last two years coming off 20 loss seasons, NO incentive for p6's to schedule us with only outcome a bad loss or bad win, SOS anchor. This should help in getting a better schedule than last year's - which had us squarely on the bubble despite our gaudy record.

But, I wonder how many schools will avoid playing us? I don’t think the scheduling of P-6 games will
be easy.
 
I don't think it's as easy to get the games we want as some make it seem. we also have to balance road and home. it's a lot tougher to win those games on the road. it's not simply accept any good game we can if it's on the road next year.

We should be a Quad 1 game for any team that wants to play us next year. That should be an attraction to many P-6 schools.

We need to go play a team like Kansas or Florida like we have done in past years in their building. Forget home and homes or whatever, just go play whomever, whereever next year.

Game at CSU should be interesting. Looks like most of their scorers were Freshman or Sophs - they had a good showing in the MW and overall. They do lose their only really interior producer. This game gets tougher because it will be played at 9,000 feet of elevation. Watching some interviews with SDSU coaches this year, that is something they are constantly preparing for with games at CSU,AF, Wyoming. I'm sure we will look to implement some steps to prepare for the elevation, but we will not be used to it. May need to load manage for than Golden for that one.
 
We should be an attractive game for anyone, anywhere. As 97 said, we are at worst a Quad 2 game and at least in some cases will most likely be Quad 1. There's very little downside for anyone unless we completely bomb out for some reason. A team safely in the tourney from a P6 league, like a Big East, ACC or Big 12 type, won't fear playing anyone at home, and if we happen to beat them, it won't hurt them anyway. Potential bubble teams should be more willing to come play us at the RC, because that's almost for sure a Q1 opportunity for them.

Agree with spiderman that the schedule is unlikely to be too much different than this year's. I hope we schedule more Q2 games but mostly we just need to win the ones we do schedule. Had we beaten Alabama and Radford this year and done everything else the same, we'd have been in consideration for an 8-9 game, I think. Of course it would be nice to be looking at a 5 or 6 seed next year, and I think that's certainly possible too. Maybe even higher.
 
Anybody here considering going to the game at CSU? And has it been announced if it will be a midweek or weekend game or does anybody have any speculation? I’d love to go, I haven’t seen my Spiders play in over 2 years. And it’s only a 14 hour drive...

I wonder if big P5 teams look at scheduling like we do. look at some of their OOC's from last year. they know they're going to get a ton of quad 1 games in conference. they don't need to load up their OOC with many more.

Not trying to be picky, but in MBB I think they refer to the P-6, not P-5.

There is a very high probability for the first time in U of R basketball history we enter the season ranked in the top 25. We already have been included in a couple top 25 polls (It is time to delete the other post about top 35). This past year was awesome to watch at the Robin Center where we dominated a vast majority of games by winning by over 15 points. The team will be even better next year. The big question is what is the best ranking we will receive at any point during the season?

I'm with you, in fact I say let's not settle. Let's delete any posts which have us above top 15 preseason!!!
