Positives of the game

At the rate that our bench is being out scored by the opposition it begs to ask the questions, are we poorer offensively or defensively as a bench or both?

Eyeball test for me is we are significantly poorer offensively off the bench while being perhaps marginally better on defense.

I generally side with sman on this, so long as the starters are producing then I think you ride that bunch. Get them rest where you can but we will need their O most games to win.

It is meaningless how much another bench scores compared to ours. It is not like we bring four or five guys off the bench into the game at the same time and need them to score. If we have a reserve come in, we likely still have four scorers on the floor. If we have two reserves playing at the same time, we still have three scorers on the floor. Most teams we play will not get the same production from starters that we do, and will likely have more bench scoring than we do.

I generally agree with the notable caveat that bench scoring (or lack thereof) becomes increasingly important the higher the ratio of bench to starter minutes gets.

This is probably 9th on my list of concerns though.

If you have ever coached then substitutions are based on the needs of the team: one sub is called to just provide rest for a starter, another to hopefully get a rebound of two..Not all starters are asked to scored when they come into the game.

Agreed. But I do think we are able to run some better match-ups defensively with Andre and Burton on the court, due to their size, length, and frankly their desire to play tough hard nosed defense.

At least one of our starters, see defense as a rest period between offensive possession (cough, Grant).

Grant's our best defensive center. Andre's a solid on the ball defender, but his overall defense is overstated. he has 3 rebounds in 57 minutes. Woj's on the ball defense has impressed me. has to hit his shots though. Burton shows promise on both ends.

Woj needs start hitting those open shots and if Burton and Gus can supply some more offense, our subbing will be more effective.

That is like saying the guy wearing thick bi-focal lens who can't see the ground 10 feet in front of him is your best sharpshooter in a camp of blind men. Yes, I suppose he is out best option and our "best" defensive center.

You would have made a hell of a spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Truth, back in the day.
