ODU

<shrug> It's really not worth all this debate. Again, my anecdotal observation was that the in-state non-conference rivalries once meant a lot to the players. They played with extra motivation. It is entirely possible that today's player is different, and doesn't care about rivalry games. I'm not a boomer, but I'm not a millennial either.

This guy does make me a little nervous:

-
A.J. Oliver II, whose father was the captain of the 1992 Virginia NIT Championship team and posted 858 points and 113 steals in his career under head coach Jeff Jones, is now officially eligible to compete for the Monarchs after being a mid-year transfer from Clemson. In his first game in a Monarch uniform, Oliver II led ODU is scoring at Illinois, pouring in 17 points on 4-6 shooting from deep, to compliment two rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes of work.

ODU write up, beefing us up for attendance maybe:

After starting the season 9-1 with notable wins over Vanderbilt (93-92), Wisconsin (62-52), Boston College (64-44) and College of Charleston (78-71), the Spiders received three votes in the most recent Associated Press Poll and one vote in the Coaches Poll. Richmond also entered the first NCAA NET Rankings at No. 22.

And its bad because they are now likely much better than their record shows but that wont matter to the computers.

Away games for us at "The Ted" are never easy....ODU will be fired up for us and totally agree about Oliver. We can win but could well be a very tough game................Here's to lots of threes from Francis, Gilyard, and Sherod...............................

We are not the same team we were the last three years. Our players will be ready to play tonight. We have done a great job of the top players of our opposing players when it counted most. Tonight Francis, Gilyard and Sherod will come through!!

Hopefully this is not the #FreeQuis game in which he drops 8 3's on us, that I wake up at 3AM every night with nightmares thinking about. Or maybe that will be good and my sleep will go back to normal? I am torn now. BUT, that was the admissions office he is mad at, so maybe he has no ill will? Very confusing to me.

Apologies if posted in the wrong thread but seems like our guys went old school on the shorts. Seems like 20 years since those were in style.

I like where we are. We are getting open shots and will make them as the game goes along. Defense and rebounding look good.

Why do we put all the scrubs in at the same time???
Exactly. That’s a time we could have used to put more pressure on them, but instead we put every back up in except for Francis, who isn’t hitting, and we make no gains. Wasted opportunity.

We can't have both Gilyard and Francis having an off shooting night, somebody's got to make 3s.

Golden keeping us in the game...............we are missing lots of shots and ODU is missing lots of shots...............

Francis is really off tonight and GG keeps trying to make impossible passes that lead to TO's. He does that a lot. Im getting a little worried about this because we should be winning by 10-15 points.

Good to up by 4 with a subpar Spider half of shooting. ODU is no offensive power but impressed by Mooney's team D keeping them for the most part from getting in the lane. It's like night and day from last season. ODU shoots 28% from deep. UR is missing 3s that they can make while ODU is missing shots they normally miss.

What is the point of Grace being on the floor? He contributes nothing on either end. I’d rather go small with Cayo at the 5.

Not a good time to go cold, had a 8 point lead and now can go to a one position game.
