NC State 12/17

Here are a few salient points.
NC State "only has 3 come from behind wins in 2+ years when they trailed at the 5 minute mark, yet has blown the lead 8 times. State struggles to hold more leads than our opposition does."

If Richmond is ahead at the 5 minute mark, and do not fade down the stretch, we have a very good chance of winning.

NC State is "likely to give up a halftime lead and lose 36% of the time, yet win from a halftime deficit only 11% of the time. That's over a 3:1 clip of lost leads vs ability to win from down at half."

If Richmond leads at half time, we have a solid chance of winning this game. We need more than 3 guys scoring to win.

No excuses tomorrow night. NC State has played three decent /good teams and lost to all of them. They're ranked 30+ spots behind us in the NET. This is a game we should and must win. It becomes an anchor on our resume like Maryland if we blow it.
Hey! There it is! The patented "this is a game we should win". I'm anxiously awaiting the ensuing email averring that if we are the team we think we are, this is a game we should easily win by double digits.

Kneepad, I am feeling really really good about this one. I hope the Spiders are getting a few points, if so , will hammer the line with all my $, my kids are getting kind of old for presents if it goes south.

Watching part of a couple state games on TV, I feared their athleticism - it seemed overwhelming a little bit. But this thread has brought me to the other side. Everyone hedge the drive on Seabronny and we will be OK. Dare him to shoot from outside - I mean 6.3% from 3????

As time goes on my confidence level is growing to the point of cocky.

I assume most teams do that. he's only taken 16 in 10 games (vs 123 twos).
we don't have a packline defense and you can't just put one in, but that seems the idea here. problem is they have some good shooters we can't leave open to help on Seabron.

Just don't let someone else beat you. Play him straight up with your best defender(s) and stop everybody else.

Disliked.

Don't worry it will be used in a sentence with vomitories in the next From the AD's Desk update.

Considering some on this board have major, MAJOR issues with the homophones like their, there, they're, I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see "aver" put in the same category as "vomitory." But I am.

We’ve graduated from comeback kids to comeback kings. So these early-game deficits must be an intentional strategy to keep leveling up.

OK, how about this: This is a game we should lose and most likely will lose because we aren't a very good team, we suck on defense and our coach is predictable and impotent when it comes to adapting. Even though NC State is much lower than us in the NET, we all realize that we play soft basketball and will wilt under even the dimmest of lights when push comes to shove, and after tomorrow we will have no hope of making the NCAAs unless we win the a10 tournament, which we won't, or 60 other teams get covid on March 14.

How about this: NC State presents a really big challenge, regardless of what their NET ranking says. Saying "we should beat them because their NET is xxx" is an overly simplistic way to look at it. Look at the actual team, not the number on the page. They have the best player we're going to play this year, who presents a tremendous matchup problem for us. That dude was a matchup problem for Purdue, who is a top 5 team in the country. That's going to be an issue. Yes, we can win. But "should" win?

To put myself on the record, I think we'll lose by 5-8 points tonight.

OK. So I assume you don't think we are a tournament team, then? If we lose to every team that's equal to or better than us and only beat the ones that are only worse than us, where does that leave us? We blew four games already. We have no margin for error. If these are the expectations with this team of super seniors, the program needs to be blown up.

And Mooney is on record saying AJ Green was the best player we would face all season, so he doesn't get to use that excuse about Seabron.

how about this: you're being overly dramatic. I must aver.

We're a favorite on a neutral site playing in a P5 conference home state with a large alumni base. That "should" tell u something. Does it mean we will win. Of course not. We've lost other games already that we should have won.

Schools are also starting to ban fans now. GW did, and now Northeastern.

Almost all of our guys have natural immunity, all have vaccines. We are good to go. Anyone who doesn't play us forfeits. This includes St. Louis.
the vaccine doesn't prevent this current strain at all ... despite what authorities may say. it does seem to keep you out of the hospital though. or maybe the strain is weaker anyway.

I know of a bunch of recent cases in the last week. all were people who've been vaccinated and some even boosted. they're sick but none are serious.

Only about 1% of all vaccinated people in Virginia have gotten confirmed cases of covid afterwards at some point. The new variant is more resistant to the vaccines, but people who are boosted have 70-80% protection. And yep, the main benefit us that even if you do get omicron, you're not likely to get very sick if you're vaccinated. Hopefully our guys are all healthy.

Look at Cornell...they've basically shut down campus and are reporting 300 cases a day. In a population that's 99% vaccinated. Omicron has changed the game.
