Judging from Goose's cameo against Toledo, Mooney isn't going to do this either. Goose will be gradually integrated into the rotation.Agreed, unfair to throw Goose into the fire like this and expect much. Not his fault at all.

I've watched him a couple times. To me, he strikes me as a guy who likes to force action and a bit of a ball hog particularly at crunch time. I don't think he is a superstar but his style of play marks well with probably our biggest defensive weakness which is preventing dribble drive penetration. So, I think he is in for a big night against us.I haven't seen Seabron play at all, but we are taking about him like he's going to put up 100 points on us while quadruple-teamed. When a team has one great player, seems to me the options are let him get his and shut down everyone else, or double-team him all night and make everyone else beat you.
We need to use Seabron’s so called strength against him. If we can put two halves together like the second half against Toledo, we will be an hell of a team. Let’s start each game from here on out with a chip on our shoulders and play with confidence!!!I've watched him a couple times. I think state will go as their guards go. Seabron will be a load…think TJ Warren w/o the jumper. We need to take it to their guards and also I think Grant is going to be a problem for them.I haven't seen Seabron play at all, but we are taking about him like he's going to put up 100 points on us while quadruple-teamed. dust off the old matchup zone, switching the screen with the guards up top.Watched Seabron act more like a pont guard 50% of game. He likes to set up on right side facing the basket,
then wait for high pick and dribble across lane from right to left and do his euro step using either hand.
It would be interesting to see how he’d handle Gilly when he’s trying to bring the ball down the floor……of course that wouldn’t work once Seabron got him low.
Yep, you got to know your scout on him well. Deny dribble penetration is the key with him.the guy is shooting 6% from 3. that's not a typo. 6%
I get not wanting to let the guy get downhill, but that didn't work. so why is #5 extending out past the 28 foot line and getting beat all game?
This scares me. One of our biggest weaknesses is controlling inside the paint on defense & preventing offensive rebounds by opponents. A physically dominant player that craves the ball seems like a match-up challenge. Hell, we've had that problem with midsize players.I've watched him a couple times. Very true. Once a player has a head of steam, they have an advantage. Although Seaborn and French are different players. French operated out of the low post exclusively. Seabron is like a 6'7 pg, he starts with the ball in his hands and drives to the goal. He is a poor man's Ben Simmons. So, whatever the Hawks did to Simmons last year, we might want to try that.I think the issue is, giving him a ton of space to get a head of steam isn't a good solution either. We tried that with Hassan French, to no success whatsoever. So I think you do have to crowd him at least a little. Maybe not 28 feet.
I think we have to force him to shoot and live with that. Take away his drive at all costs. Think it will take multiple guys and I think we have the bodies. Dji has been working out and it’s still up in air but I’m leaning toward he may be available. X-rays were good, MRI on thurs morning to be sure. Looks to be like a weird sprain which he did couple of weeks ago. I think Zay could pester him, Tyler too but he need to accept the challenge, almost take it personal, imo. Dji only gives up about an inch in size & Tyler is right there. The dad in me says put Dji on him(if healthy) when he’s in. But I think Dji could also defend Fr guard Baby T. (Smith) who he is def familiar with. I like Zay on Smith though bc he can become a mental case and lose his composure. I think Zay could be the one to get into his head. Goose would be an asset if we was 100 too. Just don’t think he is game shape ready yet. I could be wrong and hope I am with Goose. We also have to close out on their guards who can get hot. Looking forward to it either way…I’m little sad however than some of our people coming are not coming now bc Dji PT is up in air. But me and mom will be there cheering for all of our guys. 🕷🏀Very true. Once a player has a head of steam, they have an advantage. Although Seaborn and French are different players. I kinda of agree...I think we can be aggressive and physical without fouling, but if a foul is called then cool. I haven't seen Seabron enough to know if physicality is something he embraces or doesn't like. Most players don't like getting bumped and clung too especially all game. We do have the bodies to stay up in him. We would need to be consistent with it however for it to pay off.Am I crazy for thinking I’d be ok with us fouling more? I’m not looking for the starters to get in foul trouble, but when Grace, Sal, Crabtree, Goose, Dji are getting minutes why not be a little more aggressive or just give a foul instead of an easy bucket. With so many guys coming off the bench we certainly have a lot we can give.
It would be nice to be able to stop a run or momentum by having the other team go to the line. Even if they make them, a 6-0 run on free throws doesn’t get the crowd going like 3 straight layups/dunks.
Obviously dependent on game-by-game situation, but just feels like some more aggression and fouling off the bench could help us out in moments
you both beat mom and dad to it!! 😄 Haven't talked to him today but knew he was feeling better
Anybody know what Mooney’s record is against power 5 conference teams?
I've got him at 20–36, but that was a quick manual review so I'm probably off by a little.Anybody know what Mooney’s record is against power 5 conference teams?
That’s about what I got, did I hear it correctly, the reporter talks about the success Mooney has had with Power 5 teams?I've got him at 20–36, but that was a quick manual review so I'm probably off by a little.
all inLet’s make that 21-36
JOC said something like “a fair amount of success”, so not a ringing endorsement. That’s about what I got, did I hear it correctly, the reporter talks about the success Mooney has had with Power 5 teams?
We made the '96 UNC game close at the Dean Dome - my senior year and we filled up my Acura Integra and drove down ..Let’s go for a matchup with every ACC school in “The Triangle”. NC State on Friday, Duke on Saturday, and cancel ODU and host UNC Sunday. I see only positives here.
