The game two years ago was one of my least favorite Spiders games ever—losing to a bad W&M team at that point felt worse than getting blown out by 45 against Auburn a week ago today.

I’m in Colorado for the week, so I won’t be at this game, but I suspect we'll be the underdog—craziness.

Richmond 71, WM 66.

EDIT: Forgot this was a road game. New prediction: W&M 66, Richmond 58.

No need to worry. Mooney enjoys his direct deposit every month. He’s happy, so the upper crust is happy. It’s all about turning out good kids.

I remember the heady days when I thought / expected that UR could go 12-1 against one of the worst OOC schedules in the country.

2-6 against D1 so far. And this schedule is absolutely atrocious.

W&M is expected to beat UR.

Unreal.
Am I reading KenPom correct? Of the OOC games played so far we have the third toughest in the A10?
How? Does Auburn count that much?

Dayton 87
LaSalle 160
UR 185
St Joe 219
Davidson 244
UMass 246
SLU 250
Fordham 253
Duquesne 269
Bonnie’s 277
VCU 301
URI 335
GMU 326
Loyola 351
GW 360

Less about Auburn and more about extremely weak schedules for the other A10 teams.

Also, non-D1 games do not count on kenpom and Belmont, LATech and Charlotte are “decent” teams. And we only have 2 D1 home games so far, which also contributes.

VCU has yet to play an away game, and only has 1 OOC away game.

Thanks, I thought either you or SF would answer that.

OK so I am in shock about these OOC sos numbers so I looked at Duquesne's schedule. Total trash. All Div. 1 but Depawful is their best game. They're also 3-8 against it.

Loyola also has a really awful schedule and one non-D1 game in there that doesn't even count against how bad it is.

The A10 seems to have adopted the "everyone show up to conference play at 12-1" line of thinking in their OOC scheduling, but many teams didn't get the memo about winning all the games.

Yep, Loyola finally played someone (though they did beat Princeton), got spanked, and got trolled with a crying Jordan face imposed on Sister Jean taking L's. Pathetic.

At least no one care about us, and doesn't take effort to troll us. Except for Bob Black and JOC's softball questions. I think that counts. I wish I could get media credentials for a day. And continue to ask hard questions like, "Did you ever think you would be the winningest coach at Richmond when you took the job", and "what is it like looking over and seeing Mark Schmidt on the other sideline", and more.

Here is another look.

I saw that. Unbelievable. Unless we turn things around in conference play, we might be looking at another 20 loss season right after winning conference last year. But here we are again.
Yes, that is a distinct possibility. Every team in the A-10 with the exception of Duquesne has a better roster than Bucknell, Marist, Charlotte teams that have beaten us already. Almost every team in the A-10 is going to be viewing us a automatic W. Mooney had the excuse of youth with our most recent 20 loss teams and we could at least see potential on the horizon.

That is not the case with this team that is an experienced team, graduating its best player and our young players on this team are in no way comparable to Gilly, Grant, Sherod, Buck, Cayo that Mooney could point to and say just wait.

Tyne, Soulis, Tanner, and the 2 freshman redshirts is our youth core right now. Only Tyne has shown promise and he just had a front page article on the RTD sports section saying he looks like he is playing with bowling shoes on ice out there. So yeah, the future is not bright.

Future is bright.

I do like how the 80's fans of the world came on here all mean spirited last year, to slam dunk on us, tell us how legendary 96 year old Dick Tarrant is a terrible man, and Mooney is so great for winning a tie A10 regular season. And now he is crickets. How Mooney's SARS is better than your Covid.

But no where to be seen. Tuck tail and run. Maybe busy with his lawyers trying to cancel his big NIL checks. Oh well. We had a nice A10 season last year, hope everyone enjoyed it.

This is what has been screaming in the back of my head since the ship started to go down on the season. As much as we have struggled, to put it very lightly, against sub A10 competition they are going to rip into us like a chainsaw through room temp butter.

here is the leading for the article realizing paywall - quite symbolic language.

Thanks. It was wet grass, not ice. Got the metaphor wrong but you get the point.

It was noted that he did note at the end of the article that UR is currently last in the A-10 in the NET. One would think that this would lead to a follow up question at our next game as to how Moon, the team, the fan base feels about UR being in the basement. Doubt that will happen though. I suspect the questions will be about how Mooney feels about playing our traditional rivals William and Mary only to be followed up with a question about how he feels about playing in-state teams like VMI after our next game. Questions, we all want to know the answer to.

The Brian Earl Chris Mooney going out to dinner story by JOC must be tomorrow.

Bang there it is. When the Tyne story was posted here I figured that was from today not yesterday.

JOC had this teed up when it was his postgame presser question on Sat. Fantastic reason to not ask Moon about Walz comments.

Philly Bob has described the Brian Earl one as the “million dollar” question.

FInally looked up WM, thinking they would have a decent looking resume. They are really really bad, lost to ODU. May have to tease that +3.5 up to +8.5. We can cover that right? right? :)

Maybe the home court is cooked in, but Williamsburg on a winter break mid week. Not expecting a racuous crowd.

W&M -3.5 wow ...
Well W&M is 3-0 at home and all Spiders know it is hard to win on the road /s

This pre-game point from W&M has me a little concerned:

Three-point shooting has been a key piece of head coach Brian Earl's offenses, and W&M is one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the country this season. W&M ranks second nationally in % of field goal attempts coming from 3 (53.7%), third in 3-pointers attempted per game (33.0), eighth in 3-pointers made per game (11.3), and 40th in % of scoring from 3-pointers (38.7%). Earl's teams ranked among the top 10 nationally in 3-pointers made and attempted each of the last two years at Cornell.

Flying Dutchmen here we go.

Go Spiders!

3-0 at home ... but 2 of those were against non-D1 schools.
they do take a ton of 3's. and they made 18 last game against Virginia-Lynchburg. so if we play defense as pooorly as Virginia-Lynchburg, then we could have trouble. and I'm not saying that's impossible. but I think we win comfortably.

Mooney has a losing record in Williamsburg. 2-3 overall. Looking to hit the illustrious .500 mark there.

It’s an embarrassing line. But I agree with spiderman…pretty good value for Spids if so inclined. However not a shocking line. Our history under Moon at WM & more than that, there is now plenty of tape out on us.

100% accurate. We will be humiliated many times. I predict:
2: 30+ point losses
7: 20-29 point losses
4: 10-19 point losses
3: 1-9 point losses
2: Miracle wins

How can we expect to win "comfortably" against anyone in D1. This is delusional about the state of the team right now! We might win, but expecting us to win win comfortably is tough stuff!

well I could be wrong, but that's what I expect.
I do think we're better than we've shown so far.
