This was easy to call years ago. It just finally showed up in spades.Mooney is not suited for NIL world.

Hallock goes to every game and stays for the whole thing. He goes to a ton of UR sporting events, id put his attendance up there against just about anyone’s.I can verify,
Pres was present, cannot guarantee he stayed for final horn. Did not see PQ.
I’m far from a bball pro but was trying to dissect what we were doing on D and I guess we’re back to the switching man defense? There were a ton of handoffs I saw and there were many a gruesome matchup issues as a result. Why did I go to this game tonight? That is just a bad basketball team. Watching Tynne and Waltz take three point shots (did Roche get any attempts?), Waltz getting switched onto guards all night, multiple times where our defender in the paint just let a driver go right by them, this might be the worst Mooney team in 20 years.
I think Hallock does, he’s definitely a strong supporter of athletics.Hopefully we at least want to have a culture of success.
Being a supporter and being able to impact a change of culture are separate concepts. Not sure Hallock is empowered to change culture over the usual culprits that seem to run the university and athletics dept…especially our men’s basketball program. Is it not apparent that changes are needed, and it’s systemic? But next year and for years to come we’ll be saying the same things.I think Hallock does, he’s definitely a strong supporter of athletics.
That's part of the problem, the idea that mooneyites think a coach more successful than Mooney has to be an "at all cost" type of guy. This is such a false narrative. We see plenty of successful coaches that also run clean programs. Just one of the excuses why we can't get rid of him.I don’t think he’s oblivious to what’s going on, but we’ve never had a culture of “success at any cost”. I doubt he’s going to suddenly change that mindset on his own.
Yep, it's crazy. It's another one of the ideas on mooniocrity. You can't be fluid and rebound and play defense, or do any other part of the game that has been proven to be advantageouover the years. Just like someone pointed out about catching the ball and ready to attack. We catch and look for next pass 30 feet from the hoop.My 87yo dad visiting from CA about 8 minutes into the first half: “why don’t your guys ever follow their shots?”
It was too frustrating for me to try to explain.
Riche had 3 or 4 and came up empty...too inconsistent.....Why did I go to this game tonight? That is just a bad basketball team. Yeah, totally agree, hence why I didn’t make any statement to the effect that his appreciation for athletics will translate to a change in direction. I think overall UR fares reasonably well in sports, so there’s probably not a ton of motivation to react to bball being a turd in a birdbath this year.Being a supporter and being able to impact a change of culture are separate concepts. Oh I agree, but they aren’t willing to terminate a contract over it and they are willing to keep extending which continues the cycle. That's part of the problem, the idea that mooneyites think a coach more successful than Mooney has to be an "at all cost" type of guy. I listen to these postgame clips and it sadly sounds like a guy who has no answers.
I'm gonna double down on the notion of perhaps going zone at this point. I dont really understand the resistance. I specifically don't understand the lack of variety even for the sake of just trying something different. We finally did press tonight on a positive note. It had the same effectiveness as GWIII's minutes.I listen to these postgame clips and it sadly sounds like a guy who has no answers.
Asked the question “what things do you need to work on” his answer was “shooting” and then “team defense”. I have lost count of how many times the team needs to shoot better but that second answer strikes me as so nonspecific as to be comical. It suggests that guys are individually playing ok defense (wrong), or that they aren’t helping each other out (also wrong).
He also seemed to kind of double down on the notion that we just need to improve a bit on some flaws to be better. We are so bad that it’s not as if some incremental improvements are going to start winning us games. We just lost by 18 to a 4-8 ASUN team at home.
I guess that’s the plan though. Nothing can go wrong now.
The claims about our recruits and transfers is they can really shoot. They get here and they not only can’t shoot they get worse the longer they are in the program. There is a hint there. I can remember watching Beilien working with players on their shot, it’s hard to believe Mooney ever does and in the portal world it really may not help.I listen to these postgame clips and it sadly sounds like a guy who has no answers.

Hallock's only contribution to athletics so far has been to force the hasty and disastrous move to the Patriot League for football.I think Hallock does, he’s definitely a strong supporter of athletics.
1:45 of the Moontalk: "we need to compete better."
This is also not a new problem. We have not been a consistently good 3pt team, for much of CMs history. Over the past 8 seasons including this year, we are all over the place between 29% and 37%. We had two years where we were top50, but have had just as many seasons over 200 and this season we are one of the worst in the country at 336.He recruited the players, he evaluated them publicly as the best shooting team he has ever had.
Currently at 29% from 3 as a team.
If his statement is true, why are the results so poor? If he's so wildly off in his judgment of players and his own team as a whole, it's just sad.
He might be, but they have checked out.CM isnt even trying to coach this team.
Mooney’s fault- I think not.
Like a bright light shining on a garbage dump, so are the days of our Spiders. The future is bright.
1. Agree. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. This years players are not very good.
What D-1 , A10 team shoots 30%.
Mooney’s fault- I think not. But we are all sad what this season is going to be like.
For me, there was very little hope in the Dooley years, and maybe Mooney’s first two.1. Agree.
2. Agree.
3. Richmond and UMASS are the only A-10 teams below 30% from 3.
4. This roster is 100% Mooney's fault. He brought the transfers in, he missed on recruits the past few years, and he brought in no freshmen this year who could help right away.
5. This could be the 1st year ever, as in my 50 some years of following us, that I go into the conference tourney with no hope of us winning it.
6. Let's see how we do in the portal next year and also see if any of our recruits can make an impact right away. You can make a quick turnaround from bad to good these days, so I still have hope we can fix this next year.
Cheer up. It can't be that bad.Like a bright light shining on a garbage dump, so are the days of our Spiders.
For me, there was very little hope in the Dooley years, and maybe Mooney’s first two.
have u looked at Mooney's A10 tourney record....he's often out very early. how many semifinals has he even made? 3 or 4 I think. SF would probably know. I remember 3. back to back years in AC, 2 finals 1 win, then 2022. Maybe there was 1 more semi in there.
Anyone is entitled to their hope it's just not very justified. u have to separate from ability of team.

I named the coaches, but I was basing hope or no hope on the players performances those seasons…have u looked at Mooney's A10 tourney record....he's often out very early. how many semifinals has he even made? 3 or 4 I think.
