Macon Scrimmage

I think you severely over-estimate the pressure he's feeling about his job situation. If he can survive the last two seasons, and 8 without an NCAA bid, he's feeling bullet-proof. Even a .500 record shows "improvement" or "progress" and the schedule has been set up so that sub-.500 is unthinkable.

He doesn't strike me as the least bit concerned about it. The fact that this is nowhere close to the "best OOC schedule in the A-10" doesn't phase him, either.
Chris Mooney: Hold my beer.

I just wish I could be more like the fans at Iowa. I am trying. And another 20 loss season and 10 year extension and I guess I will have no choice.

Uh oh my sources have told me Jabba is giving Mooney as much time to get back to NCAA as it takes fly over state Iowa to actually WIN the Rose Bowl.

First off - Mooney is going no where this year. After back to back under .500 seasons of 12 and 13 wins - all he had to do this year is win 17-18 games and that is enough improvement to keep him for next year with everyone returning.
In terms of the Macon game - it was disappointing, but saving grace is that it was a win and only an exhibition. Glass half full approach says we have new guys or guys returning entering the mix - Sherod, Burton, anmd Francis getting used to playing together. Also remember - this game means a lot more to RMC than UR. If they win - it could make their season. Glass half empty approach says - we got outrebounded by a D3 school smaller than us. Our defense is still a major issue. And Francis is a gunner who may lead or sink the team on any given night.

I will reserve my opinion until after the first 4 games. We should be no worse than 3-1 entering the Wisconsin game (I actually think we can lose to Vandy or St. Francis). If we go 2-2 in those game or worse - 1-3, the season is not over, but we are falling behind quickly.

Don't look now, but Va Tech is up on Clemson with 7:00 minutes left. Not sure if I am more giddy that this means we are a mid level ACC team (with our spanking of Tech) or that VT4700's trashing of Young and Tech are similar that of Mack and L'ville last year, hahahaha. He is one of those guys that you always do the opposite bet and you will make $$$$.

Most of the people on the board have focused on the negatives of the game, Many of which I agree with, so here are the positives.

1. We played 2 practice games and won by a margin of 16 points
2. Our 19 point margin over VA tech was against a team much better than we initially thought
3. Our 3 point shooting was excellent 47.1%
4. We shot well from the FT line 76.2
5. We held them to less than 60 points.
6. Cayo will rock in future games, which will make a big difference.
7. Burton is a stud, 5 rebounds and 5 points in 11 minutes, which would be 15 rebounds if he played 33 minutes.
8. Blake will play more controlled in future games and will be a huge positive on offense and defense.

This team has a lot of talent and is going to play very well once it is fine tuned.

Go Spiders!

I agree 80's, I think we are in good shape to run the table these first 4 games. Gilly and Francis are a very nice back court. Sherod seems to have his timing back on O, even if may struggle defensively.
The front court rotation, and the effect of adding two high volume shooters (Sherod and Francis) will be something to pay very close attention to as it relates to Cayo's production. As sman noted, Cayo did not rebound at a high rate. I know we have a bunch of posters talking about how "they played the game", so they know that sometimes a player - like Cayo possibly - that no longer gets the ball - it could impact all facets of their game. Hopefully not the case with Cayo and the Macon scrimmage was an aberration. I did point out that adding two high volume shooters in Francis and Sherod could have an impact on both Gilly and Cayo. Something to watch as we roll through the first 4 games.
