When will UR ever have a kicker who can kick the ball in the end zone or even inside the
5? UVA kicker kicked into the end zone all but one time, with and against the wind. UR looked like a HS kicker against a Pro. Griffin may have been an All AMerican based on accuracy. But leg strength on kick offs are just pitiful. The first kick looked like a shank from my pitching wedge.

He was totally disrespectful to our coach and school
He should be suspended for his inappropriate
actions

Was at alumni function before game and walked with the Trau's parents to the stadium.
They said he had injured a ligament in his hip in the Spring from over use and has not been the same since. Asked if younger brother was as good and they said competition among them is strong and on certain days, he is better.

Last night was bad, which was not unexpected. 1-AA teams are usually manhandled, worn down and out classed in speed against a 1-A team. We all know UR hasn’t stopped a running QB since the late 1800’s. Kevin Johnson is too short to see over the lineman and our DB’s and LB’s are undersized and slow. All that was expected.

The part that is inexcusable is the fact that we still have a Pop Warner kicking game. I attended a Midlothian vs Douglass Freeman football game last week that fielded better kicking talent than we have. Huesman had a year to fix that debacle and it has actually gotten worse, if that’s possible. It was outright embarrassing to hear the UVA fans laughing at the 6 yard kick offs and the average 50 yard line starting positions. We won’t be able to beat Longwood with this kicking game.

The fact that you found no positives from the game actually makes me more confident about the season. Thank you.

When we’re in a Power 5 conference

I have to respectfully disagree with you DT. There's plenty of FCS kickers who can put the ball in the endzone on a regular basis. I remember watching Columbia several years ago (yes I was very bored that night), their guy kicked 5 or 6 straight touchbacks in the rain, with and against the wind. I believe that they hadn't won a game at that time. An Ivy league team.

Liberty had a guy a couple years ago that kicked a 60 yard field goal against us at the end of the game to send it to overtime.

They are out there. Coaches need to scout soccer teams, overseas if necessary.

Because of the on/off connection of the network here, I must have missed what he did.
All I saw was Huessman ripping Trau a new one. What happened?
Must have been the first time in a year and half that Huessman saw Trau can’t kick the ball over 40 yards in the air.

Midlothian high school has one 8 miles away. Give the kid a full ride.

Johnny Jones, all 5'5 of him, was may be our most talented over all kicker. He was in the mid 70s.
Had a great onside kickoff where he would chip it towards the side line behind the front line and
our outside defenders would race under it. He also kicked 50+ FGs and could put KOs in the end zone
consistently. He was a local product of TJ HS. My son played soccer through college but in HS would
goof off on football field and kick FGs from the 40 with ease and football coach was after him big time, soccer coach would not allow him to do both. Finding a soccer player is a great idea, but Griffin was a
lacrosse player. I know there are soccer players in local area with leg strength but not enough talent for college soccer. Think outside the box, coaches.

Brendan Toibin from Monacan was the best kicker I have seen at UR.

Just me personally but I am a fan of size, longer body, longer leg, more leverage. I begged UR to recruit Kasey Redfern a few years ago. Big dude, 6’3” and stout. Ended up at Wofford and made the Detroit Lions roster last year after 2 years on the Jaguars practice squad. Character means something as well. For some reason kickers can be a little flakey. On to Fordham. Don’t overlook them however they are down right now.

Well DT, a lot of folks on this board feel that we have "ACC caliber" WR's...myself included. So we should be able to get a K once in awhile who can kick the ball deep on kickoffs. This is not an attack on you or Trau...it's just a huge disadvantage when you give your opponent ridiculous field position...particularly after a kickoff when you have just scored and should have good momentum going.

Where have you been One Putt? Yea lets get a 6'5 ex soccer goalie.

I’d love a big legged kicker here. I just think it’s unrealistic to set that as our expectation. Those kids can (and do) go to big programs and/or state programs where they can walk on. Radford was the closest that I can remember in recent memory. There aren’t enough good kickers out there to fill up all the Power5 schools so it’s even harder for us. Add in that good special teams coaches are rare and when/if we find one, we can’t afford to keep them. It’s just a numbers game.

Hanging out, mostly just read this site. I don’t know many players anymore. And I must admit I was pretty disappointed to lose Rocco as coach. Lots of stories on how it happened but I personally feel it shouldn’t have happened.

My youngest finished at Lafayette and got his engineering degree but he had another year of eligibility so he played his last year at Southern Mississippi and is just finishing his grad degree. I’ll be up there for a game later in the year. Obviously my oldest will be there along with his wife, also a former Spider athlete.
