Kenny Atkinson named Brooklyn Nets head coach

Kenny Atkinson of the half court shot fame that sank VCU in closing moments - couldn't find a video - one of Richmond's most enthusiastic players all time - this is great news and happy for him!

Congrats to Kenny!

How much do NBA coaches get paid?
A list I found showed salaries for all but five of the head coaches in the NBA at the start of the season, and they made between $2M a year (several) and $11M a year (Popovich).

So, what you're saying is he could help his alma mater invest in 'resolving a personnel problem' in a couple years, if he has some success?

To put it another way, I suspect he will be making less than $12M, even though he did sign a multi-year contract. Jim Miller was not the one offering the contract, so...

one of my all time favorite Spiders...his four years were probably the height of the Dick Tarrant era and he had a lot to do with it...

he played with what folks today would call an "attitude"...he was the ultimate competitor and loved to win, or hated to lose worse than anything...because of his demeanor the opponent's fans loved to hate him for being "cocky"...but he could back it up on the court...wish we had more kids with his passion on the court...

guess this will at least delay my day dream of KA coming back to head the Spiders one day...

congrats and good luck...

as of this moment, don't believe that Kenny qualifies to be our head coach.

and rightfully so but to be our head coach, have to meet certain requirements and don't believe he does.

Spinner, I believe you are correct. I was in school with Kenny and he may be my all time favorite Spider. Tough, clutch, and absolutely refused to lose. He had all the qualities as a player that I feel many of recent players have not had. Down by 1 with 10 seconds left, he is my pick of all Spiders to take that last shot.

I begged Kenny to shoot his first two years and he rarely did, but once he started there was no stopping him. Huge heart, a lot like Bobby Hurley.

Is he not tall enough or something?

My guess is, a BA or BS degree is a requirement of employment. I have no idea if he graduated or not but reading between the lines on WebSpinner's post I'd say he didn't.

KA came up short against Hurley when we got whomped by Duke in the NCAAs in 1990. I was looking forward to that match-up. His buzzer shot to kill a Kendrick Warren-led VCU at the Coliseum was my favorite shot of all time (I was there), just ahead of the Kevin Smith alley-oop dunk when we took VCU to the woodshed at the RC in 2010. Third place was Tony Dobbins sinking Kansas in 2004.
