JMU to the AAC?

Hey go or stay I truly don't care, but I agree the Basketball program is really going to be a drag on the AAC. Although JMU certainly has the athletic budget for it, which surprised me.

Why would the AAC take JMU over Old Dominion or others with better TV market potential? Or even a Mid America or Mountain West team?

This is all about football. The AAC is looking to improve football. The football folks are pushing this. I agree that ODU is a much better choice due to market. ODU has been working on the AAC for admission for a couple years. I see ODU going to AAC quicker than JMU. Maybe ODU to AAC and then JMU replaces them in C-USA. ODU's administration is much sharper than the department at JMU and that will help ODU. Too many fingers in the pie in Harrisonburg.

If JMU doesn't have a FBS football home before the end of the season, Coach Houston is gone! Probably gone anyway!

I really don't want them to leave the CAA. The rivalry with them will die down and no one wants that. They make us better and we make them better. We have been the two best programs in the CAA for over a decade and it's not even close. Them leaving will help us win the league more but I love the rivalry too much and don't want them to go. Some of my favorite UR games are between us and jmu. Games like the 07 game, the 09 game, the 2012 game and of course us beating them on Gameday. Those are the games I'm gonna remember someday when I'm older and am gonna be telling my kids about how me and their grandad had such a blast at all of them. Those same memories unfortunately don't come from games vs teams like Albany or stony brook or Elon.

Man, I know is Spider fans can be a bit delusional with our team at times but this JMU article is 10 times that. Yes, JMU is the best team in FCS but that has only been for 1.5 years. In the last 5 even 10 years JMU wasn't the best team in the CAA conference, let alone country for FCS. Richmond has won more CAA titles and UNH has more playoff appearances in that time span. And they think it's enough to get them into a conference that is desperately trying to be recognized as a power conference? No way. Secondly, with respect to basketball JMU will not be able to compete at all (which is the second sport that AAC cares about). AAC made a move to invite witchita state a consistent top 25 team the last several years. JMU does not have a good basketball program. All other sports, while it's nice to be good at, unfortunately aren't really factored in on whether inviting new conference members.

I like and prefer having JMU as a rival but, as with any relationship, if one is unhappy then the relationship/rivalry is broken and an exit is appropriate. A reconciliation could be possible but you deal with that if it occurs.

Good riddance. Purple and yellow makes me ill anyway. And we've got Albany, LSU lookalike, to keep me irritated.

Dillweeds will not be happy until they are FBS. Everyone deserves happiness. Let them go.

Will hurt the CAA, but we will remain a power conference. 7-11s may be safer too.

"Overall, JMU is set up and poised for a push to the FBS." Wonderful. It's still all about the money. Why did the ACC admit Georgia Tech instead of South Carolina into the ACC for a second time? The Atlanta TV market and related business interests. They can try at JMU to sell it to prospective conferences as Northern Virginia for the TV market, but it's still Harrisonburg. I really don't see this happening.

ALWAYS follow the money. Just a few years ago, App State wanted badly to join Conference USA, but instead got stuck in the Sun Belt, while Charlotte was ushered right into Conference USA for their FBS jump. Charlotte vs Boone , not much of a contest. JMU reminds me of East Carolina 10-15 years ago. They were never happy in Conference USA and Terry Holland worked like a dog to get the Pirates into the old Big East, at the time considered a power conference. But he could never convince the powers that be that ECU belonged financially. Greenville is just too small a market. It wasn't until the Big East was poached by the ACC that ECU finally made it into what was left of the Big East (AAC). Likewise JMU has nothing to offer an FBS conference except one more mouth to feed when conference revenues are divided up. Not to mention that TV revenues are drying up for all but the Power 5.

Those are my sentiments as well!!! Thanks for sharing. VT.

Irrelevant...when they were Dolly Madison we had a football team and they did not. If they didn't have a football program at all it would make no difference. While we have an intense rivalry with them our football future is not dependent on them in any way. Richmond ranks 45th in the listing of metropolitan areas in the U.S. Harrisonburg, Virginia ranks 301 in the listing of 382 metropolitan areas just ahead of Bismarck, ND.

I seem to recall when South Carolina left the ACC for the SEC there was a lot of resentment from the ACC. I think thats what has kept SC from coming back to the ACC.

Don't worry, we'll find someone else to 'despise' If we're not all in today it could be Elon in a few years. I'll admit the rivalry with Billsburg is much to civil to replace JMPU

JMU is dead man walking in this conference, much like Liberty is in the Big South for football. Those schools are smoking some wacky tobaccy to think they'll A) make money and B) the rest of the college football world would give two hoots about them being in FBS. They don't care about App State or Ga Southern, why should they care about Liberty or Madison?

Many of the JMUers are so full of themselves. Many of them think JMU is having a bad game or did not play well if they don't score 80 or more points each game. I am sure some of them are fuming they only won by 18 points today. Many of these Dillweeds think their HC is a clone of Saban at Alabama.
While it is early in conference play, in about three weeks they will start posting their yearly snide remarks about UR....the usual garbage... calling our stadium "The Breadbox" and calling it a high school or middle school stadium. One Dillweed by the handle "HyperDuke" apparently thinks Jim Miller is still UR AD, Every year he calls Miller a constant drunk. They continue to make ugly remarks about the 8700 seating capacity of RS. Along with these comments are unkind commrnts about the track around the field.
I doubt any FBS conference wants them. If JMU goes FBS I'd love to see them give up 80 points rach game and go winless! Oh how I hate 'em!

You need to be careful. I know some JMU fans on the prowl in Front Royal tonight. They have approached me with a request for disclosure of your location. So far, I have been able to withhold that information. But I really feel the pressure when I read your posts. Govern yourself accordingly.

Seriously, you felt the need to comment!
