I would build a track / soccer stadium over by the old practice fields, and then lower the playing field at Robins Stadium, extend the stands down to the new lower field, and put "greek theaters" in each endzone..

Looks good, but you would have to get City approval, so you better be able to "grease some palms" at City Hall.

True, but I figure, you are removing all the temporary seating, so it is only increasing in size by maybe 2,000 or so.

Love it. It's what they should have done in the beginning. About 10,000, perfect. The current mayor is a JMU grad, maybe he'll buy it.

Would love to lose the track, look more like Elon's but with better balance on the 2 sides.

Just out of curiosity what kind of program do you use to make this rendering?

Can you add in the new basketball practice building since your view is toward the West.

I think I am on sound ground with this. Back when Robins Stadium was built and the Athletic Dept had all kinds of drawings on line of the stadium and what what it would look like , I remember seeing a rendering where the field was lowered, stands were put in place of the track and both ends were enclosed bowl like. Those of you who are close to David Walsh might ask him about it. Does anyone else remember seeing that rendering?

I emailed Jim Miller requesting that the view for football games not be impacted by keeping the track in the present location. His response indicated that the whole University community had to be happy with the ultimate decision. Not much chance to move the track. He seemed resigned to that fact.

I don't think that would be the best use of the money. The stadium is never really filled except for maybe a JMU or W&M game. I would build a football and lacrosse (men and ladies) indoor facility first, and then talk about expanding the stadium.

With the new Queally Athletic Center, as well as added offices and suites on east and west stands

Same additions, but original stadium, so what it might actually look like in a couple of years.

Someone said it on a different threat, but bears repeating to my mind. The look would be much improved if the arched windows in Milhiser were reinstalled. Beautiful architectural feature that is cloaked in brick. When you look that direction (toward Milhiser and RC) from Robins Stadium, visually you are confronted by a long and tall wall of brick. Cold and uninviting.

We seldom fill the stadium even with playoffs teams so don't see why we would make modifications to add more seats.

It would look much better. And it would improve the interior of Millhiser too.

The windows at Millhiser should match those at the Performance Center (or vice versa).

As to RS, I'd relocate the track and jack up the stands to 45-degree angles to improve the view for fans and bring the game experience closer.
Add the extra seats if we can. (We'll need more seating capacity once we win a few more National Championships [a fait accompli]). If we cannot add more seating, then we should re-design the seating to be closer to the field of play with a better view for fans. The current stadium seating is too flat and too far away from the action.

If I had PQs money I would:

Hire RCSGA as Director of Facility enhancement.

I would then set up an endowment to fully fund all of the non-revenue sports scholarship slots.

-Renovate the Robbins center for hockey so we can get a team.
-Right the wrongs of the past and reinstate Soccer, T&F.
-Bribe the ACC into taking us as an affiliate member for LAX.
-Brand new swimming facility.
-Add womens volleyball and mens wrestling.
-Indoor tennis facility
-Lights at Pitt Field
-And then a indoor mega complex on River Road that can be used for inclement weather for practices and games of non revenue sports. It would have a track above the field going around to serve for indoor track/spectating purposes.

Pretty hefty price tag. Go big or go home.

Re: the windows of Milhiser, I recall when I was an undergrad, I heard that the Robins family forced us to brick up the windows when they gave the money for the RC. Had heard they didn't want anything "competing" with their building.

Anyone recall when the windows were bricked?

Don't know when they were bricked, but think they should be "unbricked". Walked into Milhiser the other day; brought back a lot of memories, e.g. Percy Sledge singing "When a man loves a woman". A fraternity brother got on stage with Percy as he was on his knees singing in an effort to "comfort" him. What a great song, what a great memory. Really wish they would restore the windows as the interior was pretty dark (even with the lights turned on) and lifeless save for a nice student who said that her uncle (last name Cook) was in the Class of 1968.

i agree moving the track should have been done when they remodeled. And I think even a hill would be more attractive to students.

The windows were still open after the RC. We played there a lot in 72-76 with no lights, only natural light.

I remember keggers in there with bands and 50-cent beers; going down those back stairs to the bathroom was a challenge. They used to have post-game Homecoming parties there too, when we played at City Stadium.

The old University Student Union did a great job of providing non-fraternity entertainment, ie Greek Theatre parties, parties on the quad between Moore and Freeman, and over on the pre-turfed Keller Hall Field. Allison Jones Vogler of the Spider Club and the late Brian Marth were very active in that group.

Amen fellow 76er, those were the days. Went to Holiday Inn on Staples Mill when Steve Akeridge and Brian Marth were disc jockeys. I think they called themselves the Sound Machine. Fun times and Brian was a friend and a great guy.

Speaking of memories, "Making Out" with my future wife in one of the dark corners of the gym during the dances held on Friday and or Saturday night!

I thought we got rid of track.

needed women's track to offset football, the offset lacrosse by dropping men's track and soccer
