Richmond is an absolutely prime job. I'm sure there are dozens of good coaches who are hoping to get a call from Gill. Top FCS program in a premier FCS conference, sustained championship caliber teams for the past decade with tons of talent returning, a proven natl championship contender, and a university who supports football much more than 90% of the other FCS schools. Add in a beautiful campus in a city on the rise and a nice pay check you have a tremendous job opportunity. the important part now for us is landing a coach who can come in and win right away to prove to the nation that we are able to maintain success. lets hope gill can get huesman or a guy of his caliber.

Cannot vouch for the accuracy, but interesting:

Time will tell, I have heard 6 names, but will not mention for obvious reasons

Fontel is from here. I hope we give him a good reason to stay. I imagine he'd rather stay than go to Delaware if he can help it.

What's your source? Mine says that's not really true. My source is one of his current players. Admittedly it's just one player.
It's hard to tell. Know guys well that played for Reid, Clawson & London. With each coach there were guys that loved them and some that didn't. A lot depends on the individual player.

While the Asst coaches may be loyal to Rocco and willing to move. Can't imagine all of them are thrilled with the idea of going to rebuild a CAA team with many having ties here and the returning talent.

Fontel can go to a p5 school if he likes. Don't see him leaving his hometown for Newark unless substantial pay raise and promotion.

Believe Pollin and McCorkle have young kids here. I'm also guessing Dave Legg would stay, since he's a fan favorite.

But we don't have a commitment to winning football?

I don't know if Huesman is using Gill to get more money from the Mocs. It's possible. Remember, Rocco and Huesman are friends, and Russ probably knows the real reason why Danny left. If he takes the job, then he thinks he can work with Gill even with all of the perceived restrictions (whether real or not). If he doesn't take the job, then the restrictions are real and are a red flag for any candidate who wants to come here.

He took over a team that was one 4th down stop away from a national semifinal, got some FBS transfers to replace graduations, and went 6-5.
He wasn't "that bad" but was probably the wrong man to start the on-campus era.
So nobody knew Scott had an alcohol problem? How is that possible? A head coach with a drinking problem is a horrible situation.

Correct me if my memory fails me, but hasn't every recent hire in football been the "guy we wanted?"
Clawson, London, Scott, & Rocco were all the first name I remember being bandied about.

So now that Huesman's offer has leaked, Gill can't afford to lose him. Otherwise that would be our first rejection in quite some time.
They say 'guy we wanted' because they can and it's makes them feel and look good.... that is not saying it's true. I mean what do you want the school to say...'we got our fifth choice'?

Woody has undergraduate and graduate degrees in English from VCU. Need I say more?
That does explain a lot. The only time that Woody is really interested in UR is when things go bad. It's been that way as long as I can remember.

not sure if we knew scott had an alcohol prob or even if he does, did know that he had a prior DUI and he was told directly, if that happens again, you are history and he was. many people receive DUIs and don't have an alcohol prob, wrong decision, wrong place, wrong time.

There are issues, but we are not a dumpster fire. Some of you need to step away from the ledge. KG has some people helping/advising him at the present. I also understand the coaching world is excited about our opening. I would suggest some of you take a little time to look at DR and his history, not sure why he likes to move around, but it is in his history.
Ok one more time....it's not DR moving around, it's the why he left UR for the same position in UD. The admin won't give us any info, which is their choice, so it leaves us to make assumptions. The Not1 comments give us some insight. If the telecommuting AD is accurate that's another reason to believe it the Admin that's the problem. I want Richmond to find the best coach possible quickly.....but I don't want to let the Administration off the mess they created without them making some serious changes, otherwise the same bull will repeat again and again.

I have no problem with UR being the gate way for successful coaches going to FBS. I'd rather they stay but understand them taking promotions. I don't want UR to be the place that runs successful coaches off because we don't keep our commitments.

It was so bad and so obvious the Campus police had a standing offer to pick him up when he needed it.

until the smoke clears, dust settles, we really don't know everything and probably never will. think DR has as much to do with this as our admin. not a betting guy but if i had to wager, bet DR's agent contacted delaware when they fired their coach there mid-season, doubt if they reached out to him. never had a job where everything was perfect, always wanted something more or something to be better, had bosses i loved and bosses i disliked, that is life, you deal with it. to make this public like he did seems to me to be very self-serving and an excuse for him leaving "my team".

I-M, never heard what you just said from anyone at any level, just a rumor, a good cocktail story or a direct quote from Jim Miller? he was told, any prob and you are gone, just doubt what you are saying but you could convince me otherwise.

My prediction is that we make no real push for him at all. And remember, he and Danny are tight - - Danny is going to talk to him and I don't think what he has to say is gonna be real complimentary about the opportunity here!

100% wrong.

How did you get that from my post? My recollection is that they knew and hired him anyway on a "no strikes" policy.
I just said he may not have been "that bad" as a coach as in Xs and Os. His off-campus actions, when he was supposed to be the role model for young men, were inexcusable.

I meant before the hire.
London's name was the first one out there when Clawson took the TN job.
Rocco's name was being circulated even during the lost Lineburg season.
