This is how we're supposed to title threads now, right?

Anyway, he's been named one of 20 on the watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar award for top center in the country.

Congrats to Grant! This is very very impressive. Grant and Gilly went through some dark days, but sucked it up and are part of one of, if not the best team in the school history. Possibly also the only time we have had 2 top 20 players for their position in the country.

C'mon man. Blake is also being listed in the top 20. If course you are forgetting Gonzo, KA, and Harp?

Neither the article which started this post or the RTD article mentioned Blake as being considered as a top 20 finalist for their position.

This discussion detracts from the point that this board has posted a lot of very negative post on our basketball program as well as the players during Gilly's first 2 years and Grant's 1st 2 years full years and despite the hate, they have given everything they have to our program and showed tremendous loyalty. It is very impressive that all 3 red shirt senior returned for their senior year. This tread should light up like the 4th of July with praise for Grant on this wonderful honor.

It is not that I disagree with you on negativity in the first two years of two 20 lost seasons in a row. But I think the majority of the frustration expressed was the fact we had little to absolutely no bench support for those guys. I know I saw potential in Gilly, Grant, Cayo and of course add Sherod's first ACL tear and our outlook was pretty dismal. Now Cayo was very raw those first two years but he worked his butt off as did the other guys to show the results last year. First two years we did not have a Tyler Burton or more confident AG coming off the bench. Now we are seeing the benefit of guys like Grace and Sal developing, Burton and AG adding skill and court savy to their athleticism. We have a certified attack machine transfer in Blake Francis and now a Connor Crabtree who should be a strong addition and at least on paper, we have some very good recruits. In Gilly's and Grant's first two years, there was not a lot of hope out there. I don't think the negativity was targeting Gilly, Grant or Cayo as much as it was viewing what the future of the program without a proven bench. Now we look like finally there is less pressure on Gilly and Grant simply for fact we FINALLY have depth.

Let's all move on and be glad we are where we are today. Another 20+ win season will help those first two years become a distant memory. I am so sorry that Nick won't be able to experience this year. He will be missed.

I sense a bit of revisionist history here. Lots of frustration with the Coach and by extension the direction of the program, and some pointed criticism of players from time to time, but I think “hate” is a bit over the top.

These guys are good and are getting noticed, we can all be glad for this. Hopefully they earn their historical place this year.
