My favorite moment was realizing that the UR-VCU game ran almost all the way through the first half of the Tech-Duke game.

That inbounds play has worked for us all year. Can't believe the great shukka didn't scout it before the game.

Another double double by Terry. A lot of minutes for our guys, Anthony logged 48 minutes, I think we have to rest him, at least a few minutes every game, probably the reason he missed some free throws down the stretch. Even Cline got 35 minutes, probably a record for him.

Great win by Spiders! Contributions from everyone. Seemed like a great atmosphere at RC from telecast.

Lots of great moments but getting the tie at end of 1st OT was awesome. Could see it coming a mile away. Only other fav moment was walking into RC tonight and seeing a sea of red.

Just a great team win. Congratulations guys.

I agree, I'm especially glad we didn't to lose this for Kendall's sake. He looks tired and struggled.

I believe we've been capable of play like that virtually all the season, glad it's finally happened with back to back good efforts.

Congrats to coach on W number 200!! The inbounds play was great! It has worked all year for us. TJ does a great job with the slip screen which allows him to get the defender on his back so he can convert! GO SPIDERS!!

Electric atmosphere at the Robins Center. The terrific play by ShawnDre' to miss the free throw, Spiders get rebound, and Cline scores to send it to double OT.

To mention a couple that haven't been mentioned. Seeing Alie-Cox get stuffed on attempted dunk and watching the Rams simply hold the ball at the end of the first half and then turning it over on shot clock violation.

Congratulations to the team, the coaches, CM on 200th, and the participation and excitement of the crowd including the students!

favorite moment was of course the Cline bucket. The way Kendall embraced him was indicative of Kendall's mindset and I thought a really great way for a senior to react.

My second favorite is a huge tie for all the SDJ 3s. I have five fingers to wave at the ram fans on their way back home 0-2 this year.

will post this more elsewhere in days to come, but my god UR needs to work the game inside out. The 2nd half was all perimeter and I barely remember Cline touching the ball, wherein the first half he had it a ton, with a ton of post touches. Terry similary needs to get the ball in matchups that he can exploit, his touch from 8 feet in is terrific but he's not getting the ball enough to collapse the defense for the shooters.

After screaming my throat raw and going through an emotional roller coaster that left me exhausted and yet full of energy all at the same time, my favorite moment has to be the one where in one play I went from the lowest point to just about the highest point - the inbounds play of Davis to Cline. In the back of my head I wondered if we would get that one off at all tonight, and wow did they pick the exact right moment to do so. What a fun, fun game.

My favorite was Terry Allen rejecting Mo Alie-Cox dunk at the rim. No, no, no! Terry is simply a stud!

My favorite moment was the whole game because it was easy to see who was the better team on the floor over the 50 minutes. VCU has this reputation as a powerhouse with all of these super recruits. Take Graham off that team and they are probably a .500 team. I'll take Terry Allen over Mo-Allie, SDJ and KA over Johnson or Lewis, every day of the week. Jordan Burgess, remember how Ram fans were talking about how much better than he was going to be than his brother. He is like the invisible man out there.

VCU is a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

97, you are correct, but they are going dancing. Likely to be one and done.

Being so dismissive of VCU somewhat diminishes the win. Certainly Graham makes up for a lot of their team, but Lewis is a very good player and put up solid numbers in that game. Their other playmakers had off nights, either because we forced them to or just as happenstance. I think we played and coached a very good game to get that win.

But VCU is a very good team that is trying to hang tough after losing a key starter. I wouldn't be so quick to invalidate them.

Loved the fact that we came out ready to play and built up a 15-point lead on the Lambs in the first half - getting the crowd into the game and intimidating VCU for a spell. Not the usual "Play uninspired basketball and go into halftime with a double-digit deficit." Players really wanted to win this one from the outset.

The way their fans react will make me relish any win against them. they could be .500 and I would be thrilled to beat them.

I'm not invalidating our loss, just invalidating the common meme around these parts, that VCU is a Top 20 team in the country. They aren't. Let's remember who we are; a slightly better than .500 team, that just 2 weeks ago lost to George Mason, and we controlled VCU both games and looked pretty definitively like the better team in both match-ups.

I agree. I don't see them being a better team with all of these amazing highly rated recruits they are pulling in. They looked like a better team to my eyes when they had Reddic, Brandenburg, Daniels, Theus, the first Burgess, Skeen, etc who weren't highly recruited but played like their pants were on fire.

Larrier, Tillman and Gilmore are all just lean lanky guys who look to be decent players but none look like the next coming of Graham or Weber - Weber you can see was a special defensive player as a freshman and Graham has been good the whole time he's been in Richmond. Williams looks ok, nothing earth shattering about him.

Havoc doesn't look as Havoc-y to my eyes. They don't seem to get as many turnovers off the press and they aren't a good shooting team from 3.

while we seem to match up well with VCU, they match up well with everyone else. they're pretty good.

Watching the VCU fans that were trying to be incognito in UR colors get silenced after the killer blocks by Terry and Deion. They were up and screaming only to be silenced at the end.

There are three keys to Havoc:

1. Force inexperienced guards to panic and throw the ball away.
2. Force the guards down the sideline where they can be trapped.
3. Trap while covering all of the easy pass options (i.e. leave the farthest offensive player from the ball uncovered.

This does not work against quick guards that change directions and don't get trapped on the sideline. Shaka mentioned in one of his interviews that since he has been at VCU, Richmond has had quick guards that could handle the ball in Kevin Anderson, Cedrick Lindsey and Kendall Anthony.

VCU will have trouble with both Dayton and Davidson as they both have the quick ball handlers that seem to make Havoc ineffective.

They really didn't even try to press or trap us more than a handful of times in either game this year. For the most part, they played us like any other opponent played us. And when they do that, we are better than them.

Presumably they didn't press us because they knew we would have beaten them by even more if they had.

they didn't press as much because:
1) it's not all that effective against our guards and the bigs who helped handle as well.
2) they had a shorter than usual bench. not an excuse but reality. two depth guys were late scratches.
3) no Weber. he made their press special.
4) refs actually called a couple fouls on them early, not letting all the bumps go.

They tried to press but we were just ahead of it. We had basically 3 guards out there and Terry has been handling the ball much better and brought it up several times. I thought using Cline as an intelligent quick passer as an outlet was a great idea. Mooney had a good game plan.

I thought they had their press going the entire game. When we took it out after a made basket, VCU was right there with their standard full court pressure.

Perhaps it just didn't feel that way because they didn't make that many hoops that allowed them to set up the pressure and when they did that pressure was completely ineffective.

Their press is the key to their style and when it is not working they become very ordinary. That said their press does work much of the time and when the opponent is rattled, ineffective, and makes lots of turnovers they do very well. Officiating plays into that. Against us on Wednesday night their press had the main effect of wearing K Zero down as far as tiredness. When Lewis is glued to you and has to foul you at least 3 or 4 times before being called any human would get tired. K Zero is exceptionally adept at beating their press by sheer speed but that takes a lot of energy. RPI used the press whenever they had the opportunity after a made field go but our ability to get the ball upcourt quickly by utilizing all of our players made it much less effective and much less of a factor. Noticed it more at the start of the game but thought it was pretty much a nonfactor down the stretch.

For them to set up the press, they have to make shots. So it's not every time. Advantage CM and our teams have had is that we've played VCU every year. Except for GMU doubt any of our A10 teams had played them until last 2 seasons. Huge difference. All comes down to good ball handling guards, having good outlets, and variations on who takes the ball and how you bring it up when they do press.

yeah, that's pretty amazing. even when they pushed it up the floor, our 2 guards stopped them from getting anywhere beyond the 3 point line while everyone else got back to their spots. nothing easy. that's key against VCU. they don't shoot all that well, so if you take away the easy buckets they struggle.
