Give me a break. Davidson has 3 players out due to illness, including their leading scorer, and the Spiders look lost on the court. Aldridge is better than any player CM has managed to recruit. I'd say he's better than anyone CM has recruited. And we are still soft as a rebounding team.

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Peyton Aldridge scored 24, including four free throws in the final 16 seconds, to help Davidson hold on for an 83-79 win over Richmond on Tuesday night.

Brian Sullivan hit five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points and six assists, while Rusty Reigel scored 14 and Nathan Ekwu had 12 and nine rebounds for Davidson.

A 3 by Sullivan gave the Wildcats (15-9, 7-6 Atlantic 10) a nine-point lead with two minutes to play.

Terry Allen scored six during an 8-1 run by Richmond (14-11, 6-7) that trimmed its deficit to 76-74 with 33 seconds left, but Davidson made 7 of 8 free throws, including 4 of 4 by Aldridge, from there to seal it.

T.J. Cline led the Spiders with 25 points. Allen added 17 with eight rebounds and ShawnDre' Jones scored 13.

Davidson shot 53.8 percent (28 of 52) from the field, including 11 3-pointers.

I will be glad to see these "defensive specialist" graduate so we can stop some one!!!!

How did we lose to a team playing one A-10 caliber player to our 3??? Just pitiful

The Spiders were certainly not lost on offense tonight. Our efficiency was 1.25 points per possession, which is extremely high, especially on the road. To give some context we average ~1.14 points per possession which is the 25th best in the country (the national average this year is 1.03). Our offense is perhaps the best it has ever been under Mooney and he deserves credit for this, but our defense is perhaps the worst it has ever been and he deserves just as much credit for this too. We have lost multiple games where our offense has performed at an elite level due to our horrible defense, the most egregious of which were the JMU, Saint Josephs, and VCU games but tonight takes the cake.

It is really unfathomable how much our defense has deteriorated since last year. Mooney's defense has traditionally had one hole, rebounding. We could more than make up for it through forcing turnovers and making teams take low percentage shots. Right now it is all holes, we don't do a single thing well. Is this due to the rule changes? Nationally the average defense went from allowing 1.02 points per possession to 1.03, it changed by ~1%. Ours went from .95 points per possession to 1.07, or ~12%. Why would Mooney's defensive scheme be affected so much more than others? Is it the personnel? Whatever the cause, Mooney has had months to fix it and there has been no progress.

At this point an at large bid is not just improbable, but truly impossible. Even if we win out the regular season and make it all the way to the A10 championship game we will only get to the NCAAs if we win it all. The NIT is still possible, but not probable. The final games of the season only matter in that they determine our seeding for the A10 tournament. The only games that really matter now are the ones played in Brooklyn. I know we can win the A10 tournament if we can play any semblance of defense. I hope something clicks in the next few short weeks, a switch is flipped, a light turns on, more metaphors...

2011, we have to be one of the worst in the country at defending the 3.

Anyone who has ever contacted Keith Gill knows that he is very happy with the way things are. I guess he intends to go down with the ship, or maybe he's planning to get off and board another one before that happens.

Oh hell yes, he is looking to jump to the ACC.

We are at 226th right now in terms of 3FG% defense, but I am pretty sure we are the only team who has allowed over 70% from 3 in a game.

Geez, and the best 3 point shooter in the world only shoots 45.4% from 3 in the NBA. How does our defense make opposing 3 point shooters even better??

All we needed was resonable D tonight and we win. Once we knew we were getting beat it was time to switch up the D. There is not a GOOD coach that doesnt do that regularly. We constantly get toastwd on D and he rarely alters it. Its hard to be a fan with a coach that never adjusts, never changes. Damn. We should have won this game going away.

Mooney's feeble post game statement to RTD.

“Just not quite good enough defensively,” said Mooney. “I thought they had long possessions. We needed more stops and were just not able to get them. The ones we did get, too often we didn’t come away with a rebound.”

No $hit Sherlock!!!!!

Wofford shot 81% from 3 against VMI last week...17-for-21.
