This overlooked group includes those with autoimmune conditions, such as RA and lupus. Covid vaccines have really adversely affected their health.A much overlooked group is the millions of immunosuppressed people that are vaccinated but the antibodies are defeated leaving them in some cases 100% exposed. This group includes cancer survivors that have had chemo and radiation treatments that knock down their immune systems. Also transplant patients take high powered meds to keep their immune systems low to prevent attacking the transplanted organs.
The ignorance and refusal of this nation to listen and understand the high risks and seriousness of this Covid virus is incredibly unlike the history of the United States.
Spider 23, beautiful sentiments.Good Morning!!!!

The vaccines have not adversely affected anything -- the virus has. It's not the vaccines' fault that their immune systems aren't strong enough for the vaccines to work as intended. But that's all the more reason for everyone else who can get vaccinated to do so -- to help protect people like this. This overlooked group includes those with autoimmune conditions, such as RA and lupus. Covid vaccines have really adversely affected their health.
Serious question Gallipoli, can you point me in the direction of the information you found about Lupus and the vaccine? I know someone with lupus and very interested. Quick search finds that lupus.org does advocate to get vaccine and booster. This overlooked group includes those with autoimmune conditions, such as RA and lupus. Serious question spider23, have you ever thought of cashing in on your Name Image and Likeness. With a mug like that, you can make serious bank.Serious question Gallipoli, can you point me in the direction of the information you found about Lupus and the vaccine? A family member has rheumatoid arthritis. She has had destructive flair ups, which occurred after her 2nd Moderna shot. She decided not to get a booster shot. Is S23=CF? That NIL looks familiar.Yes, I am making some bank. A little more time and the lupus.org site does indeed advocate for the vaccine, they seem to be on the side of EL that it is the covid that is more dangerous. Last time I rely on a basketball message board for my medical advice .
It is only DECEMBER, and almost January.....
With attitudes like this we are never going to get out of this. That's the truth. There will always be the unknown. Nothing will ever be 100% understood yet we are expected to put life on hold until science makes everyone perfectly safe. Insanity!! To some there will always be something to fear, most others take the risks and go on living. The ones that dont want to can stay home and lock themselves away.In the litigious society we live in - yes, their will be responsibility handed out. If a kid dies of a heart attack on the court today like Hank Gathers, you know for sure the family will be looking at the school, coaches, medical staff, and their own doctors who I presume perform an annual phsycial exam and ask - did you not see anything indicating this?
And yes - I agree, we are living the risks of COVID now in everyday life. But as mentioned - the science is evolving. And the reason it is evolving is because we don't know a lot about a virus that is only a few years old. Do you think we know more about Cancer or even the Flu today, then we did when it was first discovered - of course we do. But the main difference is that these are unpaid (mainly unpaid) kids playing a sport during a pandemic. There is a difference between that and a grown adult going to work for living (but even then I would argue employers should take proper steps like offering telework options, testing if needed, etc).
I like the idea of the waiver, but it would need to include a clause that frees school, coaches, everyone of responsibility if anything happens now or years from now as a result of catching COVID during your time at school. And I would understand if an athlete would not want to sign that document.
I am not saying stop playing either - I just think the response of "Just go out and play and live with this virus" is a little too much for me as a fan and parent when we don't know enough yet about the virus and our knowledge is still arising. I would suggest at this time - that fans be removed from the games and they go back to testing 2-3 times a week, no matter what your vaccination status is. Could something still happen under that scenario - of course it could. But at least your making an effort to minimize risk as much as you can. To just say go about and play in packed arenas, with very little testing and protocols - just seems a little reckless at this time.
Slippery slope my friend. I hope nothing happens in your future that causes you to fall into a group that is denied medical care.I would take it a step further whereby hospitals should under NO circumstances admit Covid patients for treatments that have not been fully vaccinated.Leave them at their homes(or on the street) to fend for themselves. There is also a likelihood of the unvaccinated having little or no health insurance which puts further financial pressures on hospitals and their medical personnel and future higher medical costs,in general.
Great. Makes sense and hopefully more in line with other conferences and what the rationale people on this thread are arguing for.
I have APS which is like a form of Lupus and an autoimmune disease. I was encouraged to get vaccine(moderna) but antibodies react differently sometimes in your body and can be hard to predict. I rarely catch anything and am very healthy other than overweight. But some folks with APS or Lupus can catch everything under the sun. With the vaccines I still caught Covid but it was more like a nuisance vs making me real sick.Serious question Gallipoli, can you point me in the direction of the information you found about Lupus and the vaccine? I know someone with lupus and very interested. Quick search finds that lupus.org does advocate to get vaccine and booster.
as of 12/26 --- 74% with one vaccination and only 63% are fully vaccinated
Here it is. Seems to make sense to me and in-line with ACC and other policies. What do you all think?
Ok we get it, getting vaccinated is the smart thing to do but of course not 100% of people will do anything. You could offer $20k to the whole country and there would be people who say they don't want it for whatever reason. Do you really think this would all be over if 85% were vaccinated instead of 65%? No it wouldn't. The numbers would still be on the rise because its a contagious virus and the vax doesn't stop people from "testing positive".
You don’t have to worry about that, I can assure you.Unvaccinated should be denied hospitalization-no slippery slope with that.F’em.All their individual rights BS would disappear when they realize that they’re shunned from sucking resources from a majority paid-in populous that took collective preventative measures.Leave the unvaccinated on the street. We have created a ridiculous safety net for the unvaccinated.Cut the net and let them fall hard.Slippery slope my friend. Raise your hand if you never made a bad decision at 18 years old! Really, you have kids? The unvaccinated largely are the ones tying up hospital beds that other people could be using. In reality, almost no hospital is going to turn people in need away, but I'm mostly with 32 here. I'd treat everyone as long as I could, but if beds start getting scarce, I'd turn away unvaccinated (at least those 18+, since kids can't get vaccines on their own) to keep beds open for other non-COVID-related needs.
Honestly, to me it's pretty selfish of someone to deny the vaccine that has been proven to keep most people who still get COVID out of the hospital, then turn around and rush in expecting to be treated when they get COVID and need care. That's jacking up my healthcare rates and potentially making care unavailable to other people who need it for other reasons.
Freedom of choice goes both ways. If you choose not to be vaccinated, you accept the risks that come with that.
Allow all those who refuse to wear masks or are unvaccinated to become ill, incapacitated or die! How does that sound to you fatherspider? So please explain what you propose beyond what we have already done. Are you blaming this continuation of covid a result of the 15%-20% who havent been vaccinated? How about people can understand what the risks are and decide to still live their lives without fearing them. Are those with normal immune systems suppose to live in a captive/ repressed world to protect those who dont have great immune systems?
How do we move beyond this LKN? I seriously would like to hear your opinion.
I'd just cut it at the legal line of adulthood, if I needed to. We send 18-year-olds off to war, so for purposes of this supposition that would never actually happen in real life anyway, yes, I'll hold them responsible for not getting vaccinated after 10 months.Raise your hand if you never made a bad decision at 18 years old! Going to war? Supposition? Never real life anyway? What the hell, are you in fantasyland, 18 plus 10 months.I'd just cut it at the legal line of adulthood, if I needed to. Hmmm this mindset seems very similar to how the Nazis treated Jews 80 years ago. Place them into a group, blame them for all the issues and call for their deaths.I'd just cut it at the legal line of adulthood, if I needed to. Sickened? And you’re not offended by people calling for the deaths of unvaccinated?Ok I’ve kept out of this but Being unvaccinated is NOT like being Jewish in Nazi Germany. That is so incredibly offensive to those who were tortured and killed in gas chambers and to their surviving families. This is a truly despicable comparison and I am absolutely sickened you would say such a thing
Yes, clearly I'm calling for the deaths of 18 year-olds. No one is calling for the deaths of anyone -- we're just saying if hospital space becomes scarce, hospitals should be able to deny treatment to adults who denied the vaccine. After all, they didn't think they needed it, right?Hmmm this mindset seems very similar to how the Nazis treated Jews 80 years ago. and to be clear, I was not comparing the unvaccinated to 1940 Jewish people. The comparison was to posters on this board calling for and generally being ok with the deaths of a certain group since they refuse to take a vaccine.Ok I’ve kept out of this but Being unvaccinated is NOT like being Jewish in Nazi Germany. Beautiful words that capture the essence of this great land.“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
