Bryce Golden - Butler commit

Any time line on Bryce? Most critical decision for Mooney. Down to us and Pitt first time around. Really, really need this ine.
Was the “it came down to UR and Pitt” quote from Bryce, or another source? If I remember correctly that was from his mom right? If so, he could’ve told her that because he knows she wants him to go to UR. From what I’ve seen on twitter, one of Penn State’s recruits is trying to “recruit” Bryce there

I'm more worried that Jay Wright followed him after his announcement.

Shouldn't firing Mooney be a dream for everyone who wants the program to succeed? Many believe that to be a pipe dream.

I don't see the relevance of that in discussing whether or not recruiting a high end player should only be a dream of Pro-Mooney vs. Anti-Mooney.

But no, firing Mooney should not be a dream for everyone who wants the program to succeed. Succeeding is the dream for everyone who wants the program to succeed.

I doubt Mooney is going anywhere. 7.5 mil needs to be raised to build the basketball practice and training facility.

I think everyone wants Bryce to sign here, but some of us also believe a different coach would be more likely to extract more from him and our other players than Mooney can.

I agree. I just wanted to oppose the comment by Whampas that it is what all fans should want. We all want to see Richmond win (besides the VCU trolls who come in and I haven't been here long enough to be sure about VT).

If Vegas was placing odds on Mooney being able to close on Bryce, odds would probably be in the longshot category

There are some posters who don't want anything to happen to the program if it decreases the likelihood of Mooney being fired. When the practice facility was announced there were posters who were upset for this very reason. I think if Bryce does come here some posters may be upset that our team would improve and Mooney would likely be around longer.

Spring signing period is April 11 to May 16. I assume he’s bound to that period like any other unsigned player.

It’s intriguing that there’s limited chatter about who he’s considering or visiting.

The relevance is Mooney has recruited this high end player and didn't close the deal. I'm not looking for a dreamer, I much prefer a doer. No one wants the Spiders to succeed more than I and success by my definition isn't a trip to the dance with 8/9 year gaps in between. Not in my wildest DREAM can I imagine Mooney suddenly reversing his proven history of success.

I mean they are definitely related but I don't think they are relevant in this conversation. It would be like discussing if the 76ers should sign one player vs. another player and saying that instead of signing a player they should fire the coach. It isn't really constructive criticism in the specific situation even if it is valid criticism when more relevant

At this point I kind of just want a new coach so we can have a different topic. But I think if that happened 99% of the posts on the message board would die down and we would only get 2 or 3 posts a day

Come on now. That entire statement isn't relative to recruiting a highly regarded player but you are coming around. : )

There are probably 345 schools that want Bryce Golden right now. We would be lucky and blessed to get him. I am sure everyone from his mother and brother to all of us is working on him. We will know in a couple of weeks what he plans to do. The kid would truly be a “game changer”. Hope we get him.

had to look up redundunadant tautology and non sequoia
I didn't bother.

I agree with K that a lot of teams must want Bryce. the fact that it came down to us and Pitt before is irrelevant now. he has plenty of options. his brother being here may or may not give us an advantage.

I assume Bryce will probably wait to see who Pitt hires. tough to sign there no matter who it is, but I'm sure it's tough to leave too. he's got to be somewhat emotionally invested.

I think the fact that is came down to between us and Pitt originally is extremely relevant. We have a long standing relationship with Bryce that is deep. All of these other schools that are jumping in now, don't have that.

I know Bryce is highly sought after but if he leaves Pitt we have to get some return for all of the time we have invested in his recruitment. Otherwise, we are signing under recruited and unsigned HS seniors and grad transfers from Chicago State like programs to fill out our roster. That is not the way to build a program, I think we have seen that.

Mooney apparently has gotten a stay on his execution here by Hardt and Queally, he best not fill the remaining 2 scholarships with players that can't move the needle.

yes, the relationship thing is important. both between Bryce and Mooney and with the Golden family and Mooney. if Bryce chooses a Richmond type school I think we'll be it.
but if he wants big, or wants the big conference ... there's nothing we can do about that.

Maybe it's mentioned on your pay board, but a little surprised to not see mentioned here that Bryce Bolden is now following De'Monte Buckingham's mother, as well as, Jacob Gilyard. Wouldn't think that was incidental.

In addition, Grant Golden is now following David Nzekwesi, 2018 6'9" big man out of Texas.

Are these follows recent?

Since this thread and every basketball thread has discussion about Mooney and his future at Richmond ....and this one even got into the hypothetical and non answerable tautology (saying the same thing twice using different words) ...what I want for Richmond basketball is going to games and cheering for two Goldens instead of cheering for one twice...................and not only that seeing our coach change defenses when needed and clearing the bench at the end of games as most NCAA teams have done whether winning or losing......perhaps that kind of team chemistry and consideration has something to do with being in the NCAA tournament?

From the man with an avatar, that said "I yam what I yam" seems rather appropriate...

I think He is waiting to see who the new coach is. He and the rest of the recruits were going there despite the season Pitt had until the coaching change. If the new coach is to their liking, they will probably still be Pitt Panthers.

Speaking of, just popped over to the Pitt board to see what was up. There is a thread over there where one of their posters is suggesting Pitt hire Mooney. Was that thread started by one of you FMM guys....

If Pitt keeps getting turned down by other coaches, maybe they turn to the Moon man. He is essentially a younger version of Stallings, so I doubt it, but a man can dream, can he not?

searched Golden and they're not crazy enthusiastic about him, siting his 200ish ranking. not that it makes a difference, but he'd be much more appreciated here!

The conundrum surrounding Mooney going to a P5 is this:

Which coach is he? John Beilein or Herb Sendek? Same for CM's stint at UR. The Pro CM's would tell you he is closer to JB. He just needs to catch a good break like getting BG. The Anti CM crowd would say he is Herb Sendek. Not a bad coach, but not a good one. When he does recruit good talent, he doesn't get the most out of it or wastes a lot of it. Both coaches run different systems that may or may not appeal and connect with the fans.

Beilein or Sendek? That is the Gazillion dollar question that is debated about coaches on message boards everywhere. The answer of course, is 42.
