Bryce Golden - Butler commit

Pittsburgh was terrible last year and next year they are going to prove things always can be worse. That is not going to be a fun place to play basketball for a number of years.
Capel has been closing the deal with recruits at Duke for years. Whether he wins big at Pitt or not time will tell, BUT, he will have some big name recruits in the mix right away. I am willing to bet that they will be competitive (not winning ACC championship), but competitive in year two.

Homer, you could close deals with recruits at Duke. it's Duke.

Capel has a strong recruiting network (and contacts) currently in place. He will use the network to bring in big names right away. You can take it to the bank.

Whether he is a good enough coach to win ACC championships or not, time will tell. I have always felt that he was a better recruiter than coach.

I'm sure he'll do fine. but if Capel was recruiting me to Duke and I've got Duke and similar offers, I'm not following him to Pitt. no chance he lands the kids he was going after at Duke.

the guys he was talking to but not offering ... sure.

He was recruiting to DUKE!! You and I could bring 8 McDonald’s All Americans to Duke. Lol

As has already been said, Capel's greatest accomplishment as a coach was recruiting Blake Griffin. Flamed out at Oklahoma pretty hard after that. Maybe he does better the 2nd time around.

I am sure Bryce mom is thinking "I want my son to do whatever makes him happy" But , deep down inside she is thinking how convenient it would be to watch both of their games if they played on the same team. Having one play for Richmond and the other Pitt would require a lot of travel.

She has actually expressed what she is thinking on twitter.

I didn't say he would be convincing Duke committs to change their mind and come to Pitt. But, they can't all go to Duke, and he is fishing in the highest level pond.

I suspect Mooney already knows which way this is going to go. Who has he offered
that would prevent Bryce from coming to UR? Why would he prefer Pitt now?
It's all very puzzling to me why this is dragging on.

I would guess between Grant and Mooney, that they have a good idea which way Bryce is leaning now. I would have to think Bryce was waiting to see who Pitt hired to make his final decision.

I'm sure that deep down that plays a factor but I think, also, in her head is the possibility of her two sons, who she has raised for the last 18+ years of her life and has molded into great young men, have the possibility to play on the same team for 3 years.

I would think UR would be his logical go-to choice now. His brother and a big void in the position he plays is waiting for him. So if he doesn't come, my feeling is he has little faith in CM getting him and the Spiders a NCAA bid.
big void??? last year sure. not this year. Bryce will compete for the starting position. he won't be handed it.

sure but as she posted ... it's about his dreams, not hers. she'll support him whatever he chooses. like a good mom should.

I know. But I was more saying I'm sure she wants them to play together for more than just not having to travel between Pittsburgh and Richmond

It is "dragging" on because Bryce said he was exploring his options but wanted to see whom Pitt hired as their new head coach before making his decision. That is why I said his decommit was the "softest". Now, that Pitt has hired Capel, I would expect things to move a little more quickly. If Bryce does not choose Pitt, if we are his choice, we should know that quickly. If he is opening up it wide, I doubt we are in the mix.

I give Bryce a lot of credit for taking his time and giving the new coach at Pitt a chance to win his commitment. Obviously, I want Bryce here, but have to respect his process.

'dragging on"??? Do you know when Bryce officially received his release? What was it, less than 2 weeks ago that he announced his de-commit? I am guessing that the Pittsburgh AD didn't exactly drop everything she was doing to draft his official notice...

Bryce should take as much time as he needs to make the right decision for himself. There is still a ton of uncertainty going into next season, tons of coaches to be hired and fired, tons of transfers to be announced. There is no reason for Bryce to rush into anything.

no hurry. we're not going to fill the spot until he decides. with some guys already recommitting to Pitt, I'm just happy for now that he hasn't.

Golden's mom was pretty active on Twitter liking a bunch of tweets about Capel being introduced at Pitt yesterday.

I would think that if he is going to stay with Pitt he would decide fairly quickly. Are chances go up a lot of he waits till April 11th.

It seems like anyone who was willing to sign at Pitt with Stallings as coach would be willing to sign there with Capel as coach, but what do I know.

I don't think any player would say "it's Capel ... no way!".
but suddenly you're face to face or on the phone with him. you've never talked to the guy before. it better feel really comfortable and quick. he says he's seen some video of you and he hopes you'll come (because he has like 7 open spots to fill a roster). but who knows what he thinks about you. he's been looking at Duke level kids. who knows what other PF's he has relationships with. it can't be easy.

What he can say is, "Bryce, when I was the HC at Oklahoma, I recruited a set of brothers like you and your older brother. The oldest of the 2 got drafted into the NBA. The younger one played the same position as you. He also got drafted. You might have heard of him. His name is Blake Griffin. I can put you in contact with him. He can tell you what kind of coach I am. He can tell you why you should stay and play for me...........................

Well the answer to that question is just that he'll pay under the table and use illegal recruiting tactics and then leave once sanctions hit. Its called the Calipari special

Pitt fans must think Capel's got a bunch of star recruits on speed dial. checked their board and one poster said "I'm also not convinced that Capal wants to honor the two recruits who already verballed (Kingsly and Golden)."

who know what's going on there. I'm guessing Capel and players (including recruits) are trying to get to know each other. Capel hasn't even hired a staff yet, so that makes it even harder.

http://www.nationalletter.org/signingDates/index.html

So, players can begin signing NLI's on April 11 through May 16.
Does this even mean anything. Does a player even need to sign one? I guess the one thing is if you do not sign on April 11, it starts to be the case that another player may get your slot.
I am guessing that things start progressing a little after April 11 - when the Villanova's, Clemson's, Maryland's, Pitt, etc start officially landing recruits. Other than Bryce re-committing to Pitt - I don't see much happening until slots start filling on April 11 and beyond.

AND, I truly hope that Jay (follows Bryce on twitter now) is not pitching a "two fer". Come and be the next Eric Paschal and bring your brother along to be Omari Spellman, and win a couple national championships while your at it. I am praying that Jay is not doing this. I have not talked to him recently, and I am afraid to ask.
