In good news: vcu women were eliminated on Day One for the second straight year!
RTD reports Youngkin was at the game sporting a VCU vest. Will be interesting to see if he owns a Spider one.
Fordham finally came alive in the 4th, but far too late...79–63 Duquesne victory. McConnell finished with 17/6/7 and 4 steals, but also 5 turnovers.
Duquesne looked pretty solid, and Fordham looked awful outside of Txintxurreta (how did we lose to them?). Spiders should obviously get the win tomorrow, but Duquesne should have some confidence based on today's performance, so we'd better show up.

vcu is closer, they play the General Assembly/Gov's Office game there every year, etc. So we get left out.
Gov is going to be looking for a new position after next year (given one-term limit in VA) - how about Younkin for Spiders basketball GM - (again not political) but he has does know how to run successful business.

On another note, there is an article in the NYT today about Duquesne's Kiandra Browne and her business making clothing for Muslim women athletes. Spiders are not mentioned but two of the pictures accompanying the article are from our game earlier this year when we beat Duquesne by 24 in Pittsburgh.

Duquesne sure isn't going to go down easily. They're playing physically, forcing Spiders to miss some layups, and Browne is a load on the boards. McConnell yet to get going. Doogan doing her thing, but we need more from others.

Spiders finally got a double-digit lead, though trimmed by a bucket to 49–41 through three. Back-to-back threes from Budnik and Doogan in the final couple of minutes helped give a bit more space.
Otherwise still not distinguishing ourselves on the offensive end, but have tightened up even more on the defensive end. Hill is shutting down McConnell, we've mostly been able to contain Kiaku's quickness, and Blackford is really the only one hurting us badly. Impressed with Browne though...big with a strong inside presence but she also plays outside and isn't afraid to take threes (0-for-3 though) or drive.

Spiders got lucky. Looked like Budnik fouled the 3 point attempt that could’ve tied it for Duquesne if it went in. Instead it was a shot clock violation. Spiders up 4 with 13.5 seconds left

Won the type of game that they are likely going to see all tournament long. Were getting eaten alive by Browne, but made adjustments to double her which helped.
