Brachen Hazen is back on the market after decommitting (and presumably getting a release) from Central Florida following the coaching change there.

Wording of the article is a bit weird...can't tell whether it's trying to say we haven't re-offered or we didn't offer the first time around but have now.
Some of the bigger suitors in the original play for Hazen’s services are no longer currently in play, according to the former Indiana Junior All-Star. Schools like Maryland, Clemson and Creighton have not made contact since his services became available again. Valparaiso, another early candidate, is losing their coach Bryce Drew to Vanderbilt and also isn’t expected to be an option. Hazen instead says he will focus on the schools who are contacting him or his AAU coach and he will not be reaching out to schools himself.

According the Hazen, the players in his recruitment now focus on Ball State, Bradley, Bowling Green, Richmond and Dayton. Ball State is the only school who has contacted Hazen since his decommitment that originally offered him a scholarship.

dayum. some guys just can't stop teasing spiderman. this kid's video was flat out awesome. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up. but dayum.

Now we're talking, would be a great immediately eligible big man who we'll have for more than 1 year.

Coaching staff should pull out all stops to land this kid given our number of available slots.

How big is Hazen anyway? I have seen him listed anywhere from 6'4" to 6'9".

Remember Brachen well; would love for him to be a Spider. OSC

Looks like he is around 6'7-6'9

Land him, Ford, and a transfer to put a cherry on top what is the best class in UR history (on paper).

Brachen's supposedly 6'8". his brother Parker is a 6'7" SF hs junior - 4 star according to espn. playing in the junior all-star game in Indiana.

I like his game and think he would be a good fit at UR

Brachen would be a great fit for the Spiders and my daughter tells me he is cute. OSC

Well there you have it...sign him.

In all seriousness, shouldn't we have a compelling shot at this kid given that list, assuming we are back on him?

What is Dayton's situation? Do they have 1 opening for next season?

Very interesting development. Archie Miller is tough to beat. He beat us out for Sam Miller last year, so let's hope Mooney and staff can even the score. Hope we can land Brachen, lot of opportunity for him at Richmond.

I have liked Hazen since Day 1, and most of us on this board were surprised to see him choose the school he did. A full-court press on BH would be a good idea, and bringing him in for an official visit, ASAP would be great news. Once recruits see our campus, and meet our coaches and players, the reasons for picking UR become pretty compelling. Getting the visit scheduled is the key.

Not sure if the link below is active, but Brockway, a UF recruiting guru, talks about a 6-11, 215 center named G Gak, who just now de-committed from Oklahoma State, and is currently looking (after Travis Ford left). He would be a great "get" also, but UF seems to have the lead at this time. He would be worth calling, just in case... See link address below.

Nice interview with Brachen. Really seems like a really good fit for UR. If he visits, sees the campus, meets the players and coaches, think he will realize UR is a great fit for him. OSC

Brachen was at the top of my list last year before he committed elsewhere; he remains at the top. If Brachen commits, I would be happy to call it a class. OSC

That is cause he beat us on the "extras". We built him a warehouse. But he adopted him. :D

Cline announced he's transferring, then we reach out. that's the way it works.
CM and staff are FAR from lazy.

No college coaching staff is lazy but some work harder than others. I listened to Shaka enough tell how he and his staff worked (and yes, Shaka was selling the program all of the time), but it was impressive.

More and more I feel like Davidson is the school to beat for recruiting...we probably aren't always fishing the same pond as VCU, URI, UMass, etc. but we have to beat Davidson for some of these guys.

We have some selling points vs Davidson. Our campus is nicer, and our arena is much bigger and better than theirs. They have a higher hurdle to clear academically than we do. I like our location vis-a-vis downtown Richmond better than their location vis-a-vis Charlotte, plus RVA is a much hipper town than Charlotte. McKillop must be a good salesman to be able to out-recruit us.

Also curious that BH is looking at 4 huge schools and 2 tiny ones?

who says he's out recruiting us? Davidson is not my biggest concern with Brachen.

I said McKillop must be a good salesman to out-recruit us, didn't say that he was actually doing so. He did get Aldridge however, and it seems like Aldridge always plays well against us. My larger point is that we have recruiting advantages over Davidson.

Agreed but many players come for the Coach not necessarily the school, unless you are blue blood program or an OK Power 5.

Agreed. I don't think we were all that involved with Aldridge. we were barely mentioned there. nice player though. we should have been. and the kid that just committed there is a huge Steph Curry fan. that can sway a kid.

75 miles from Columbia City to Muncie...easy drive for Whitford.

So is there any reason why we haven't reoffered him? We have room and he fits a need...only reason I can think is that we want to do some due diligence that he's not injured or still is the right fit after what he did his senior year.

One of the articles stated that only ball state had reoffered from his original list.

If you're referring to this ... it's not written very clearly:

--- Hazen instead says he will focus on the schools who are contacting him or his AAU coach and he will not be reaching out to schools himself. According the Hazen, the players in his recruitment now focus on Ball State, Bradley, Bowling Green, Richmond and Dayton. Ball State is the only school who has contacted Hazen since his decommitment that originally offered him a scholarship. The Cardinals bring some familiarity in bringing in former Hazen opponent and longtime acquaintance Kyle Mallers of Carroll in their freshman class. ---

I think the author is saying that Ball St is the only one that offered him earlier, which I believe is incorrect.

It's saying (poorly) that Ball State is the only one that originally offered him a scholarship that has also followed up with him after he decommitted.

ok, so either we haven't contacted him or we didn't originally offer? I thought we offered before, so I'm definitely confused.
