Baseball returns to action

Brian Jordan was a beast. One of very few athletes to make a Pro Bowl (alternate) and an All-Star Game.

He came back and visited the team a couple of times that I remember. Unfortunately, his success didn't rub off on us.

That 02 Super Regional was something. Felt like the CWS already in a way. Thought we were about to make it happen, but alas. Who knew that would be the last time we'd get that chance. Now it's an accomplishment if we even make the A10 tournament most years.

All the Mooney had to go somewhere...

...er, oops, silly auto-correct.

My memory is abit fuzzy here. But I thought when Bryan Pritz tied game 3 in Lincoln we were going to Omaha I was sure of it. Then Andy freakin Givens (Who would probably be the best pitcher on this team) walked the freaking bases loaded and alowed a grand slammer and thats all she wrote. I remember thinking well be back one day. Made the NCAAs the next year, choked against UIC late, fought back only to get destroyed by Stanford in the final and have done absolutely nothing since then.

5 Commonwealth Schools in the NCAA Baseball tourney this year. We haven't even been close since we got to the A10 Championship Series 7 or 8 years ago. Let's try something new with this program.

I am quite certain we have 4 or 5 scholarships divvied up among players and can have close to 12 in D1 Baseball.

NCAA D1 baseball programs are allowed to offer a maximum of 11.7 athletic scholarships, which can be divided up among a maximum of 27 players. A D1 player on scholarship must receive a minimum scholarship of 25% of the total cost of attendance. A full scholarship includes tuition, fees, books, room, and board.

Okay, besides the ol’ saw about not enough money, why have the scholarships been reduced?
It’s seems to me that when we need money for something, we find it.

It’s simply not a priority for the university.
Agreed. The money spent on giving each sport a full complement of scholarships, helping them to compete on a national level, would be money well-spent, and have far more impact over the long term than any university marketing program. College athletics are huge to the 14-18 age demographic - the same demographic as prospective students - and the more exposure you gain, the better.

Pepperdine just won the men's golf title. It's impossible to put a value on having your school's name mentioned for hours at a time on ESPN or the Golf Channel, which televised the tournament.

Every NCAA baseball regional game shown on ESPN or the various ESPN networks is a three-hour commercial.

Supporting your point- who even knew JMU had a women’s softball team, most less one of the best in the nation?

JMU softball and the Softball WS has been entertaining as hell. Great exposure for JMU. Much more than a FCS football title.

Agree. Whether you love him or hate him, Rocco nailed it, "NO vision"

Catcher grad transfer coming in with two years of eligibility. Chicagoland native, seems to have originally headed to New Mexico but didn’t play for some reason, then went JUCO in California for two years, then two years at Cal Poly.

Cal Poly Pomona, a big difference from Cal Poly.

Grad transfer pitcher Jesse Heikkinen coming in from Michigan State.

We also picked up a 2022 3B commitment in Jordan Jaffe out of California.
