At St.Joseph's

We have zero depth with this team. Our bench gets outscored by St.Josephs bench. Come on this is embarrassing

We’re shooting 73% from 3 at the half and only up by 9 against the worst team in the conference. That’s how bad our defense is
They only scored 31 in the 1st half. I think we would take that every game against any team. If a team scored 31 a half and ended with 62 and we lost? That would be on the offense big time, not the defense.

Then why were we only up by 9 when shooting 73% from 3? Not trying to argue, just an honest question about what you think led to that relatively small lead considering the astronomical 3pt%

Obviously you wouldn't, but I would take a 40-31 halftime lead every game, against any team anywhere. But, if you really want to know why we were "only" up 9, you think going an uncharacteristic 7 out of 20 from 2 maybe had anything to do with it? Don't you think we will win a lot, if not maybe even all, of our games if we hold teams to 31 point halves (62 per game)?

Wow, Matt Grace is showing up on offense. I’ve never seen him look that good before. Looked like a whole new player out there

Greg Stevenson(6-6,220) who played at UR ‘99-‘00 and ‘00-‘01 after transferring from Penn State was the equivalent of Tyler’s completeness as a player.

Greg's brother Jarrod was a hell of a player to for us. Part of the 4 man class that went to the NCAA tournament in Beilein's first year. Carlos Cueto, Daryl Oliver, and Eric Poole were the other 3 seniors. They struggled for 3 years under Dooley, but had a great senior season and won the CAA championship. Coaching makes a huge difference!

They were missing their top two scorers last night. Our best defense is to keep their scorers on the bench? I guess we should hire Shane Stant to coach defense.

Putting in subs the last 2 minutes. Really doesn't help players. Gaitley never even sees the floor unless a blowout happens. Even when that happens he plays the most for maybe 2 minutes. It frustrates me so much with Mooney. A guy has been here for 4 years and barely gets a chance to play. I know it happens at our program. Such a long list of players that either transfer or barely see any action. This recruiting is absurd. Gus is a great defensive role player. But rarely sees the floor. Then you got a player like Sal. He hasn't gotten barely any minutes. Needs to hit the weight room clearly. Add some weight and get some minutes. Rarely see any development.

Whenever Gaitley makes it into a game I am happy - like his attitude! Who says we are not deep - 13 players for Richmond listed in the box score.

Nice bounce back win last night. You can't really take much from it, given that St. Joes has 1 win all year AND was playing without their leading scorer and another double digit scorer last night. A good high school team could probably give St. Joes all they want.

But if we would have had to play all 40 minutes to eek out a win against St. Joes that would have been big red flashing warning lights panic mode. It wasn't that.

Huge game on Friday. It is a must win. If we wouldn't have screwed around and lost to LaSalle the other night, I might not say, but absolute must win because we did. This team needs big W's to balance out the a couple really bad losses.

Are you really complaining that a walk-on doesn't see more floor time?

Burton was terrific and wasn't tentative at all.
Francis was what I always expect to see but don't always get.
loved Grace's post move hook. very smooth.

Jacob created and played hard on both ends. I don't know what's up with his scoring though. against good teams, we'll need him to score.

We won by 23 and Gilyard still got 37 minutes, and Francis and Burton 34 and 33 - that should tell you right there - we have no confidence in the bench.

Little concerned Gustav only got 6 minutes - makes me feel he is not 100% yet. I am fine with him playing limited if he is still injured, but concern is this will be a lingering injury. He is our 6th man and best bench player - so without him, it really is no one.

Mooney said on postgame that Andre isn't having any issues. He just forgot to put him in until late in the first half.

Not buying that - we only got 3 guys off the bench that play. Sal, Grace, and Gustav - so how do you forget? And if you do forget - where are the assistants? Did they all forget too?

How pissed would you be if you are the Top reserve on our team and Mooney forgot about you for nearly an entire half? Jesus, he has been doing this job for what 18 years now.

btw ... that freshman Jordan Hall was impressive. kid can play. he's averaging over 6 apg as a 6'8" kid and he can shoot ... against us anyway.

I didn't remember the name but per verbal commits we were one of his offers. he's from Philly so Joe's makes sense for a kid who wants to stay local.

Yeah, I don't remember ever seeing us mentioned with him, but several news articles around his commitment do say we were among his offers. His final three appear to have been St. Joe's, La Salle, and Bowling Green.

Sometimes I forget how much a lot of you know about Richmond basketball. This guy played at Richmond while I was in kindergarten! I don’t know if I even knew what basketball was yet

Grace and Sal got 13 and 11 minutes and are playing well. Andre does not look 100% yet. Wilson does not look ready, but he still got 6 minutes. I think the bench played plenty last night and did fine overall. No matter who is on our bench, why would you want the guys you mentioned above playing any less minutes?

he put Isaiah in before Goose., which was odd.
I think it's pretty obvious Goose is not 100% yet. I can tell he looks a little different out there. And, regarding earlier comments, Mooney didn't say he forgot to put him in. He said he put him in a little late. Meaning, if even true, maybe he was thinking three or four minute mark instead of two minute mark in the first half to test the groin out. No big deal there.

That's not what he said. He didn't say no issues. He said no to the question of did he tweak anything against LaSalle. He also said his minutes should be back to normal next game. Which is huge. That tells me he was testing the groin a little bit more last night, maybe not going all out, and felt fine, so overall he might be ready to go 100%.

I was prepared to be a bit critical while watching the replay of the game last night. I was nervous as we would get the lead to 12-14 but then they would bring it back to 8-10. For about 10 minutes in the second half it felt like we just kept them at bay and didn’t make it out of reach. But then the run happened and we did.

Some positives I see are that we shot 58% from 2 and held them to 38% from inside the arc. We’re also now 32-33 from the line the last two games.

You could tell they lacked a playmaker, as they had 9 assists to 18 turnovers while we had 23 assists to 9 turnovers.

My biggest question, and it isn’t meant to be critical of him, but how did Grace grab zero boards in 13 minutes? Just seems like a stat you don’t see often for a big man.

15 bench points was a welcome sight. They’re getting our hopes up before SLU

back to Goose, he tested it out for 10 minutes against LaSalle on Saturday and didn't have any issues. it just seem surprising to limit him to 6 minutes last night. maybe CM felt no need to risk it in a fairly comfortable win, but then why risk it for even 6 minutes?

I was little worried it was a lingering injury but JOC also reported that Goose was under no restrictions. That was per UR. So they've certainly presented it that Goose is healthy and Mooney comments last night backed that up too. Mooney has mismanaged Goose role all year going back to before he missed games.

Grace has gotten a bad rap on this board. I've always liked his "I'm not soft" style. He's a good shooter and passer. He's aggressive and fired up on defense, although he tends to be out of position some (lack of playing time). This year, he always looks ready to play and get it on. I would love to see what would happen if Mooney would go big sometime--like against St. Louis or St. Bonnie-- and play Golden and Grace at the same time. Just for a few minutes here and there just to push some bigger boys around and clog the middle.

He looked half a step slower to me...he may have mended, but like most muscle pulls, people tend to throttle back a notch just trying not to reinjure.

My guess is play a little bit in the first half in a game we should win, and if all seems fine, test it out with a few more minutes in the second half. It's possible the extra few minutes against LaSalle was because the game was tighter? Not counting Grace subbing for Grant, when Andre's the first other guy off the bench, we will know he's 100%. Let's hope that is Friday.
