Armando Bacot, PF - 2019 Offer

I really don't think we have any chance and I'm pretty sure just about anyone other than duke, Kansas, Kentucky, unc or ucla will. He wants to go play a year and then go to the NBA.

He's going to go somewhere he'll be gauaranteed a lot of time first year, that's one of the few areas we can potentially compete.

I realize the our window of opportunity is very slim, but as long as there is a crack in it...we have a chance. I will be talking to his family this weekend.

It always puzzles me how pessimistic this board can be.
He's a smart kid, may love the idea of coming to a good school and
possibly being near home.
There are so many factors that an 18 y.o. kid considers, that there is no
way of knowing what he is thinking.

Nobody can read his mind but you can read his words. His own words gave vcu a chance and we weren't mentioned at all. So there's that.

he's highly ranked and I'm sure a terrific player. I'd love him to choose UR. but does anyone see one and done in his highlight video? am I missing something?

I don't see anything eye-popping in his highlight videos, but I do see great instinct and a pretty well-refined set of post moves. I would say his highlight videos lack the physicality I would expect from a one-and-done player. Based on who is recruiting him he does seem to be a very good player, but I agree, based on his highlight videos I would not expect him to be one-and-done. He is just a sophomore in those videos, right? We will see in a couple years.

yeah, that's great HS basketball.
he's a heck of a player and a high major big man. he should enjoy college for a few years in my opinion.

I'm not sure what we think really matters, if he thinks he's a one and done type guy, and some D1 coach is supportive of that, then he's quite likely to end up going somewhere that he thinks that's most likely to happen.

I don't think that's pessimism by the way, I think that's just being pragmatic. Obviously we keep talking to him as long as there's some level of interest but seems like we aren't in his top 8 or so whereas at least VCU got a nod given the local connection.

Have not read that Armando is interested in vcu. He was asked only which schools were recruiting him hardest, to which he responded that vcu was one of them.

I'm definitely not saying I know what he wants, but it did seem like a list of who wants him the most...

Fair point. Either way, it doesn't seem encouraging if we aren't listed.

Dream all y'all want but I will end this right here. We are not getting this kid. If he does stay at home to play in college it will be for the other school in our area, not us.

One guy knows him and says we have a chance. The rest of you don't know him. I am going w the guy who knows him.

We can have a chance and still have almost no chance. It's fine to dream, it's not like we are flying repeatedly to say, Columbus OH to recruit a guy whose dad played at OSU or something. We can easily drive across the Huguenot Bridge, it's lovely to look out over the water after all.

You guys are missing the point. If we all go on a message board and say "no way we get this kid" and berate people who espouse optimism then we can all pound our collective chests and say "see, Mooney lovers, we were right!" and we can all feel so, so good about ourselves.

When we sign Bacot, I personally will ascend to the top of the Robert E. Lee statue on Monument Avenue and erect a statue of Mooney standing on Lee's shoulders. It may not be the most attractive piece of art you've ever seen, but I think it will be a fitting tribute.

We aren't beating Duke for a recruit, everyone knows that whether they admit it or not.

However there are plenty of instances of a kid having a serious injury junior or senior season and the big boys backing off their recruitment. That's why you keep showing interest in a recruit like this, especially since travel is not an issue.

I personally know the recruit and his family and I believe that he brings all the intangibles UR and vice versa.
Gcarter, I don't doubt your familiarity with the family but what makes you think Armando would consider UR? I of course think it's a wonderful place but I'm not seeing how we compete against Duke. Certainly want your insight....
