Don't know if this will paste properly when I hit the button, but I wanted to see our level of turnover in context of the rest of the A-10. See the chart below, which I think is mostly accurate as of today (wasn't sure about Stockard at SBU, for one). Info from Verbalcommits, mostly.

Last note -- it would be totally great if we could agree to discuss this one (or not) for the info of what it presents, as opposed to turning this into another referendum thread on Chris Mooney. There are plenty of others for that topic.

Thanks in advance...

Knee thanks for posting. Wow a bad 2017-2018 A-10 has been devastated by losses. On paper 2018-2019 will be much worse. It’s a shame we didn’t keep our starting 5. Would have been a cake walk in-conference.

There should be the same number in as out for every team, assuming they had all their scholarships filled last season. So far it looks like 50% of A10 teams have at least as much turnover as we did.

I’m actually surprised by how many teams are getting P5 transfers in, including the so-called bottomdwellers.

I’d like to see us compete for those folks if they’ve previously contributed.

I don't think anyone is getting any productive P5 transfers. La Salle has proven that filling out your roster with P5 bench warmers is not a recipe for success in the A10.

Maybe. And I generally agree with your principle to take a mid-major productive player over a non-contributing P5 guy. But I doubt all of these guys will end up riding the pine.

They don't end up riding the pine in the A10 necessarily. They very well may start, but they don't make a mediocre A10 team competitive. The top A10 teams are usually mid-tier P5 level, so if a player is riding the pine at a mid-tier P5 (or lower tier P5) they would likely be riding the pine for a top A10 team as well.

Are seniors who graduated with no more eligibility included in the OUT category just the same as a senior with another year who opts to leave?

I tried to list the seniors who have another year (like Fore and Friendshuh) as (Sr-TR) to distinguish from the EC Matthews' of the world.

T, they are transferring for a reason. I would guess a few are leaving with a 1.5 gpa too.

I'm sure grades are among the reasons, although i suspect A10 teams aren't that much more forgiving than most P5 programs.

UNC, FSU, OSU, ASU...I could go on.

For every forgiving A10 academic juggernaut, one can name multiple within the P5 world.

UNC has had to be more careful academically since the scandal. For example, this year they immediately stopped recruiting Kentucky transfer Sacha Killeya-Jones after seeing his transcript. I am sure Sacha will end up somewhere, but he is below UNC's current bar academically.

Here's how I would predict it in May, based on the turnover and recruiting:

Mason looks to be in the best position to significantly improve in the standings.

Davidson, URI, and SBU are going to come back to the pack big time, given the personnel losses.

UMass and St. Louis generally improve just by having more guys.

LaSalle, GW, and Fordham are going to really suck a lot.

Duquesne is impossible to predict, but maybe better than what the personnel turnover would indicate.

St Joe's will tread water -- Newkirk and Demery are losses, but they get Kimble and Charlie Brown back.

VCU treads water as well -- Williams and Tillman are big losses, but I thought Williams was overrated and can be adequately replaced by the Rice transfer. They won't be better because it's hard to replace Tillman, but they have a decent enough team otherwise.

Dayton will be decent but not great -- Cunningham, Landers, and their point guard Crutcher are sneaky good, but not a lot around them, which sounds a lot like...

Richmond. Golden, Gilyard, and Sherod are overtly good, but not a lot around them, which makes me think we'll be decent but not great.

Nice analysis Kneepad. On VCU, I agree Williams was really overrated. The kid Rhoades brought with him from Rice is a player though, he will be a significant upgrade over Johnny Williams.

On St. Joes, I think they brought in some good talent, however keeping that talent healthy has been a real issue. Can Charlie Brown every stay healthy, that would be a big question if I'm a St. Joes fan.

Agree, good analysis. Translation = The A-10 is going to be less than stellar again!

every year, good players leave and are mostly replaced by freshmen. it always looks worse. usually isn't. the league will be fine.

Kudos to Kneepad, both for the analysis and for keeping Jason McKinney's name alive on the boards.

It took a long time for us to send the PTBNL to Siena, but Kadeem Smithen finally was sent to Siena in the trade that brought us McKinney in the first place.

Next year: George Mason, St.Louis, St.Joseph's and Davidson will be the teams to beat. Duquesne and Lasalle should be more competitive next year

where are you guys seeing 4 starts? Osun Osunniyi isn't ranked on scout, rivals or ESPN. verbal commits gives him a 2 star composite. he's a 2018.

It is the "hate our coach" math. Add 2 stars to other teams recruits, and take one away from our recruits.

I violated my own star rule, apologies. The kid had offers from Georgetown and Syracuse though, which is way better than any of our spring signees. Not sure how updated verbal commits is on him because it doesn't even have Syracuse and Georgetown listed as offers, even though that was widely reported.

I

not that it matters, but he had 2 offers out of HS. Lafayette and LaSalle. chose LaSalle but went post grad.

while technically SBU can claim they beat out those big teams for a recruit, I think that's a stretch. he was roster filler at those schools. he'd have redshirted at both places. not ready to play, but there's potential and they have really late 2018 openings.

I don't think this one fits the narrative that UR should land 4 star recruits ... or 2 star in this case.

I think this board would be pretty excited if we just landed a recruit who had offers from Syracuse and Georgetown. Let's see how his career compares to Grace, our big man recruit this year.

Better yet, 97, let's see how he compares to Grant Golden over his career. Remember you pointing out that Grant had no big time offers. How are you feeling about that prediction now?

Ulla he's the Skip Bayless of this board. The one time he's right he won't let you forget but there are still all those 100 other times he's wrong.

Unfortunately that son of a gun has been right a lot the last 7 years. If you want to go back and re-read the battles I had with 97 a few years back, it resembles this dynamic duo's thinking unfortunately.

Funny, I don't remember that. I do know what I said about Ford when he signed and what you said. I know what I said about Kovien and Diekvoss when he signed and what you said. Also know, I was pretty high on Sherod and Buck when they signed. Pretty sure, I didn't pan Grant, he had a nice offer list and was a good get.

I will put my track record up against yours ANY DAY.

I'll take Ulla in that hands down....If you have to tell everyone how great you are then you aren't that great.
