I really want to know the positive spin on the state of the UR basketball program. It is our flagship sport

I kind of miss 4700's spin. He brings up some good points. He seemed to leave somewhere between Mooney finding out he had the heart issue, and the official announcement. I still tend to think that he has some type of direct connection to Mooney. And that's okay. I don't miss 80s fan, he is what is wrong with Richmond basketball.
It’s funny how the board has been a much more pleasant place without VT. Turns out he was the cause of all the bickering and fighting that made this board toxic. Hopefully I don’t get another month long ban for being too mean to him in this post
As to 4700, I'd say he is a former player. Very astute on the minor things that regular fans do not see. Very good basketball mind. Even recognized practice drills that normal fans wouldn't have a clue about. Intensely loyal. Wedded at the hip with Coach. There are things to admire there.
Disagree frequently. Only person even put on Ignore, 100% bc of his incessant argumentativeness not his views even when i disagree.
Makes no difference who he is. Praying for successful surgery for Coach this week. Go Mooney!

I don't mind anyone posting here, and it's obvious 4700 has an intimate connection to the program and Mooney either as a former player, donor or family member, but the strawman arguments and taking everything personally just get tiring.
At the end of the day, none of us would be here if we didn't care about our basketball program winning games and making the tournament. We're not winning games, and we very rarely make the tournament, so a lot of us are unhappy. Being told constantly that everything is great and we shouldn't expect anything more than this makes us less happy. That's the bottom line.

I think the board is dead because there really isn’t much to talk about. There is a cease fire on coaching dissatisfaction since more important life issues are at the forefront as they should be. There are only 2 regular season games left and the Spiders are fighting to not have to play day one of the A10 tournament. There is almost no possibility of post season play. The last game was another embarrassing butt kicking and if you really want to get fired up, watch the player portion of the VCU postgame presser. Classic big brother reveling in another victory over kid brother.
I suppose the next flurry of activity will likely be when the Spiders start to hit the portal looking for players to fill the roster gaps in next year’s team.

As soon as Mooney's medical condition popped up, 4700 went away. Is that a coincidence?
I think he made every thread about him. Most of the "activity" was him going back and forth incessentantly with another poster because he took everything personally.
So yeah, if that is your definition of a vibrant board activity, I guess he did. It is not my definition of it though.
He did have some good content when he would break down games and situations but those posts were far and few between from the posts where he was blowing hot air up all of our collective a**es about how Mooney does no wrong on every single issue.
No, that is not my definition. But that is recency bias. VT4700 was involved in virtually every thread. Yes, he did go back and forth with another poster, who took it just as personal maybe moreso. But u would have to be blind to say most of the activity was related to that. He went back & forth w many, me included. If he was the board contrarian so be it, it should help u sharpen your own arguments. I never mind being the contrarian too, just not as it relates to Mooney performance.
Man, I think he just hijacked every single thread arguing with other posters. He continued to get really personal with a number of posters and the mods were having to come on to settle things down because of his posts. That was kind of his legacy recently. He is largely fine during the offseason when the board is more hopeful but once reality sets in, he would argue the indefensible, and then when his indefensible positions finally beared out for all to see, he does his disappearing act for a bit. He will be back at some point to repeat this routine.
I don't mind a contrarian but say your point, don't argue to the 10th degree every single time, respectfully disagree (a notion he could never get) and man up when the points you made all season long turn out to be complete bunk. That is how you get respect on here. You were always all over the fact that he doesn't game the same latitude as other posters, this is why. Respect has to be earned, not given.
The posts may be negative, but they reflect the actual reality of our poor season. It is up to anyone to dismiss the reality - short term and long term. Not to beat a dead horse, but long term 18 years, we are 55 pct with only 3 NCAA appearances. Those are not acceptable except for certain individuals. At this stage, we see little to change the current culture. What matters is the result on the court, and I’m not seeing justifiable projection to see a bright future. Reality won’t be denied by just implying it will.
remember u responded to me after I questioned Native that the relative inactivity of board had nothing to do with VT4700. Which I think is baloney that's all. He is not without faults that's for sure never said otherwise. & if u don't respect him that's ok. He overargued but if u look at it objectively he did not make the personal attacks, but took plenty his way, & maybe some were deserved idk, but I think even the Mods would say u r factually wrong there. Btw a mod who started a Fire Mooney Petition talking about board decorum remains funny to me.
Anyway u got a thread started about vt4700 not posting, u got others saying they miss him, and it has plenty of activity for being new. Hmm...
The guy knows basketball, that’s not really up for debate. He had some of the best posts this season breaking things down. I wish those posts weren’t sandwiched between 20 others where he picks fights with everyone and anyone while playing the victim. Making every thread about himself was another serious downside.
Consistently going after one of our players and his dad is where he completely lost me.
Edit - I should also include that I would still welcome him back here with open arms. This is a public forum and everybody should be able to post and be a part of the discourse. I do agree with your final sentence G

As you have pointed out, the board has gotten a “surge” of activity on this particular thread. I was not making a comment on VT4700 specifically and was just replying to your comment that the board was dead and my opinion on why that was.
Sorry you miss 4700 although I don’t know what exactly you are missing.

VT4700 is the guy who bought a lemon but refuses to acknowledge it because he couldn't possibly have been wrong. He is dug in and won't let it go under any circumstances. From my memory (and experience) he was the one who started the personal attack post 90% of the time. Nearly always he attacked and others responded in kind.
I think it pretty obvious that UR80'sfan knows next to nothing about the technical aspects of basketball. He is a political animal who likes Mooney personally (which is his business). He will defend his friend and his friend's program to the death because he thinks that will keep his bread buttered on the right side. I am confident that 80's likes to shake hands and rub shoulders with those that he feels are important.

Look I was debating & arguing w 4700 b4 it was “cool” to do. I think u exaggerate sandwiched btw 20 other posts but when it’s 1 vs. 20 it can happen. And the Dji dad thing well I’ve maintained that he doesn’t get away w it like others bc he’s a big time Moon backer & because a Goose, Grace Golden Dread etc. don’t have family members on here. Those r the 2 dynamics but I realize some of u guys disagree.
I don't know Mooney, although he does belong to my club and I see him fairly often. There are not many people I look up to. I have had a terrific career, which U of R helped me be successful and I will always be grateful. I am the opposite of a ass kisser. There are also not many people I look down to. Try to be nice to everyone.
Maybe VT is really Mooney....any coincidence that they're both not in the public eye for now....
CCV? i didn't think Mooney was much of a golfer at all, he must be there for the pools. Could also just be a perk of his contract. If he's there a lot maybe spiderman's assumption is right he has a ton of time with family.
Kind of what I was insinuating as well. I know the 76'ers GM got canned a few years ago for having burner Twitter account to puff up his own decisions, so it has been done. I'm sure others are doing it and just not getting caught.
