23, any chance we get some player write ups this year? I would try something, but it wouldn’t be as good as yours. I really enjoy them.Fight On
good shooter and maybe we'll want him to be a gunner, but he only averaged 9.5 shots per game the last 2 years. that's no where near the volume of someone like Jordan King. more in line with Delonnie, Dusan or Tyne.Yeah Johnston averaged 3 assists per game last season which isn't nothing but I view him as a gunner coming in here.
And I think to your point, Richardson is mostly referred to as a PG or CG, so yet another guy we have who can run point if needed.
This guy from Penn just entered the portal. More of a traditional forward type, so maybe not a fit, but nice numbers and he scored double digits at vcu and against St. Joe's this year. Grad transfer.
Nick Spinoso - Men's Basketball - University of Pennsylvania Athletics
Nick Spinoso (13) F/C - Career Honors 2022-23: Philadelphia Big 5 Most Improved Player (co-recipient) 2024-25: (Game-by-Game in PDF) Played in all 27 gamespennathletics.com
looks like just 1 of the hundreds of players with no eligibility who entered portal in hopes of something happening with courts, settlement, or just the fact that there is no governing body for rules or eligibility and a school will likely just take & play them.
btw isn't today technically the last day to get in portal? lol. if someone wanted to transfer in August who is going to say no.
any idea when these guys who've played 4 full years will know if they have another?
tough to commit to a kid not knowing.
Unless Mooney changes his offense we will still smell with Big Walz in there.G Johnston
G Thomas (as of now).
G/wing ? Someone with size who can shoot
F Daughtry
Big Walz
To be really good, I just think we still need to add a guard or wing who can shoot. That spot should be wide open. The freshmen, Tyne, Tanner, AP, or a portal guy? Who wants it? And, it could be 2 spots open because Thomas might not start.
Billups is headed to Longwood.Do you think the Spiders have reached out to Fats, or vice versa?
No interest?
You don’t even understand what we are disappointed about. We are all disappointed in our men's basketball team.
OK then, please help me understand what you are disappointed about. You don’t even understand what we are disappointed about.
Everyone is disappointed in our team.
Your incessant posting of a negative and the fact that other posters find it amusing.OK then, please help me understand what you are disappointed about.
We just finished a 8-22 season. What else is there besides negatives to incessantly post about? The men’s basketball team made the University I love look like a joke all season. Knowing that nobody in the administration or coaching staff feels any pressure as a result of that really pisses me off.Your incessant posting of a negative and the fact that other posters find it amusing.
It seems to me we see fewer and fewer new members on this site. Not everyone
wants to see a negative.
Looking at what Longwood brought in, I think they would beat us.Think he could have gone a little higher than Longwood. This feels like go low major be the guy blow up & then payday the following season.
Seriously, it wasn't the laugher of a season with 8 wins or the totally pathetic record against our crosstown rival that keeps new posters and fan interest away it's ME apparently. Didn't realize I was so powerful. We just finished a 8-22 season. What else is there besides negatives to incessantly post about? Well, if you had been paying attention, he has had that avatar long before the past season even started. We just finished a 8-22 season. What else is there besides negatives to incessantly post about? You’re right. You may be one of a very small number of people who even notice his avatar.
You’re giving this topic more oxygen talking about his avatar than his avatar itself does.
Nobody on the planet talks about that billboard more than you. That’s a fact. I’ve told you before and I’ll tell you again — seek help! You’re right.
I'd agree with you if this were five years ago. But since guys are moving around every year, we have to put together the best team possible for this year. If we are in a situation where we have to "take our medicine" two years in a row in the NIL era, that's an indictment on the coaching staff and tells me they are not capable of competing in this new format.Back to topic, the more I think about it, the more I'd lean towards using the last spot for a developmental big man. I understand and respect the opinions that we should get best player available regardless of position, but I simply do not think we are one player away.
I would take my medicine this coming year and (1) leave opportunity for one of the freshman to step forward -- best guy plays the most; and (2) plan a little for the future with a big man. We'll lose two after this year, and if we think it is hard bringing in one big man in the portal, I think math says it is twice as hard to bring in two. I think finding another seasoned vet that will block the freshman just prolongs the mediocrity, and prevents us from truly seeing if our young guys can play.
For those that say that you bring someone in and let the freshmen beat them out, I would normally probably agree with you, except that (1) I truly don't know the impact that NIL $$ has in attracting players, and if player agents are paying attention to what coaches say are going to play a guy who transfers in and then doesn't, potentially impacting relationships moving forward (think, GWIII); and (2) I don't really trust Mooney to do play a young guy over a more experienced guy anyway, regardless of whether they deserve it. Last year was an example, but I don't think the only one. The main one I could think of was Shawn'Dre Jones, who looked very capable in tiny bits and pieces but couldn't get any run at all until Ced got hurt, and turns out he was very capable and could have been spelling Ced and KA the whole time.
My two cents.
Eli DeLaurier. it hasn't worked out in 2 years at Providence. 2 years left ... or who knows these days? What good, developmental or not, big hasn't signed with someone already?
How about Soulis? He went into the portal, but maybe the grass isn’t greener. What good, developmental or not, big hasn't signed with someone already? And what big still out there wants to come here with 2 other bigs to compete with? Next year, when our big spot is wide open, we should be a very attractive spot for an experienced big.
yeah, I agree. we should certainly be checking in with him on the interest he's receiving. let him know the door's still open ... but won't be for long if someone commits. How about Soulis? He went into the portal, but maybe the grass isn’t greener.
This is an interesting thought I hadn't really considered. We hear every year about guys that end up staying where they were after portaling. How about Soulis? He went into the portal, but maybe the grass isn’t greener.
"Hey Ryan, looks like you have very little interest in the portal, and u aren't good enough to beat out Walz and Beagle.....but we'll take u back"??? Why?yeah, I agree. we should certainly be checking in with him on the interest he's receiving. let him know the door's still open ... but won't be for long if someone commits.
Is he any good though? I said what "good" big. Hopefully, we llearned our lesson with GW3. And, Kwesi.Eli DeLaurier. it hasn't worked out in 2 years at Providence. 2 years left ... or who knows these days?
6'10" 220 from Shipman VA (Miller School)
sales pitch is we have 2 centers ... just like every school you'll talk to. they're ok. there's no set hierachy. if you beat out both, you're the starter. if you beat out one you're playing 15 mpg. if you beat out none, you're on the bench like you should be ... but they both graduate so you're in great shape the following year.
we could do a lot worse. so could he.
because he's a talented developing big man with 2 years remaining?"Hey Ryan, looks like you have very little interest in the portal, and u aren't good enough to beat out Walz and Beagle.....but we'll take u back"??? Why?
