Brown's already a 1,000 point scorer as a sophomore.
That's going to be a large NIL.

The ol hire the HS, AAU coach, dad/truckdriver has been around since Danny Manning. It is getting more prevalent, just like the in conference transfer. I think Louisville just got UVA's sniper right? Seems like it is very common now. Really weird 5-6 years ago, but common place now.

Perhaps a little premature for his own thread so keeping this here for now, but big man fans should be happy to see us Zooming with Riley Allenspach. Getting some pretty big-time interest from others. Looks like he was supposed to visit Northwestern as well but they appear to have cooled and the visit was canceled.

We had expressed interest in him coming out of high school but never offered. He committed to Western Kentucky but backed out when Rick Stansbury got booted, and he ended up at Samford for the past two years.

Hasn't put up huge overall stats there, but very solid for his minutes played (13 mpg).

Interesting. He is super efficient offensively, but not a great defensive rebounder for his size (offensive rebounding is good, but not as relevant for a Mooney team unfortunately). Not a passer either. Would be a backup to Walz and Beagle I assume, but the 2nd year of eligibility makes this interesting.

Difference is he was a top 40 recruit, whereas AP u couldn't even find any tape on from Greece. Bet this guy is an impact player fir VCU.
GW3 was Gatorade player of the year in Ohio, I believe. Sometimes kids don't live up to the hype. UConn was not some juggernaught this year and had injuries at the guard position and yet this dude couldn't get anything but garbage minutes. Who knows, based on our experiences though, I'm not buying my NCAA tickets next year if a VCU fan.

I’m buying them. Going opposite of what this board thinks re: vcu could have funded our NIL and rev share.

Oh man reminds me of when Coach Tarrant made an off color joke about a player at Wake Forest with same last name. Back when u had to listen to games on radio. idk why that stuck with me, probably because I was like did he really just say that. But a generational thing he gets a pass. Philly Bob laughed tho...I think awkwardly hard to tell.

Also worth noting that he Also follows Lafayette transfer Alex Chaikin on both X and Instagram, this could mean nothing at all but to me looks like they are two top targets, we’ll see what we get from the portal.
Well done! We're in a long list of programs that have indeed been in touch with Chaikin. No idea how recently though.

Totally agree. We have 15 bullets, spend then all every year and give ourselves the best chance to hit on a few.

Sure, we can try to have 15 good or better than good players every year, but don't forget it's got to make sense to the player also. Sounds good on our end to say let's get 15 solid players and have them all compete for minutes, but how many guys, especially transfers, would want to go to an already crowded roster with 13 or 14 potential guys to compete with for minute? I think it is safe to say pretty much every roster out there will have end of the bench, walk on types who rarely play. This was the case with just 13 scholarships. Certainly don't see this changing with 15.

I think it's just about how you recruit. I doubt we sign any guys now and tell them "You're really nothing more than a placeholder for us and you'll probably never play." Every scholarship guy on the roster has to think he has a chance to play. We just need to extend that thought process to two more guys every year. A good coach can tell every guy that and mean it.

Open competition: if you are the best guy for the spot, it's yours. Four or five guys are going to leave every year anyway, might as well sign the best 15 you can, see who delivers when it matters and play the best eight or nine. The others can leave after the season.

Interesting stats. Shot 25% from 3, and 19% year prior. But averages 7.7 boards for a 6'3 guard, so have to believe he can help on D and rebounding. 2:1 Assists to TO ratio. So while not a very good shooter from distance, seems like a player that could help - thinking more as a 3rd guard/smaller wing type. But yes, if he is in it for the profit mostly , there are some on that list that would probably outbid us.

Another reason to use that 14th or 15th spot on a ship imo. Maybe u hit on a guy like this. Not super common but it happens. Tho more likely out of hs due to being under recruited or not breaking out quite yet.
agreed, but you can't hit on a guy if you don't put him on the floor.

this kid is a great example of taking a lower offer where you can play early, take advantage of your opportunity, and parlay it into something big. it's unlikely he'd have that list this year if he went to a better program and didn't play 26 mpg on a team losing 20 games.

and by the way ... I feel bad for Lafayette!

I think Neal was another guy who's only D1 offer was Lafayette. they gave Quinn and Chaikin their only shot, developed them successfully ... and both left the first chance they got.

I hear you, it is happening to everyone now. Any team I remotely follow or aware of at lower level just gets raided and has to re-stock. Delaware lost Camden (who was a transfer) and Pasha (freshman rookie of year) to Va Tech. But this happens every year to them. I think these schools do have the ability to find more hidden HS gems as many guys are bypassed due to the portal now.
